Meh, the only time I've ever used "I'm not gay, but" or "no homo" is when I'm drunk and it makes me laugh.

Other than that I say whatever the hell I want, no matter how gay it sounds.

Ugh. It's like my "friends" at church, they have a thing where if you don't say "No homo!" and say something that could be considered gay, they punch your arm and yell "HOMO!"

Every single time they do that, I die a little inside.

the rampant sexual insecurity that popular polarizing views of man and woman's roles in society invokes. if they were to actually think it through, they'd realize that if they were really so obstinately heterosexual, they wouldnt need to confirm it to everybody.

i happen to think bruce campbell is a very sexy man; doesnt make me gay; if anyone thinks it does.. who gives a crap? i think i know my own sexual orientation better than someone who obviously is insecure about their own.

its a social conundrum that probably plays out in their insecure little minds something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Af1OxkFOK18

Why arn't there more gays guys like you in Malta? The ones we have here are all a bunch of brain dead vegetables with more glitter than skin >_< And they're useless at relationships.
As far as I can tell, that's true of most gay guys here, too. I'm not a fan of the whole "camp gay" thing. That's a slight understatement.

Also, I hate rainbows. every gay related thing seems to have to have a rainbow on it. What sensible designer puts a rainbow on anything? They look terrible! You'd think we would realise that.
Yeah The whole ''limp-wristed fairy'' thing is a total turn-off.

I enjoy rainbows if they are actually in the sky after a thunder storm, but other than that your right.

I mean we're gay, we like MEN, not prancing lunatics who are more female than male and make me want to pull a Jason Voorhees. Yet most seem to think gay is synonymous with chick with a dick.
Amen, siste............no. I can't even do it as a joke.
Suffice to say I am in complete agreement.

According to me it's because the stereotypes indoctrinated to them by society make them act in such a way to combat insecurity. Pretty ironic how it seems to have the opposite effect, by making them seem even more insecure.

I don't care if I get called a homo for enjoying love stories or appreciating when a male actor looks just perfect for his role, because anyone who knows me knows I'm as straight as a die.
Straight as a die? You mean like dice? Isn't that... a square?

It's part of the "bro" culture, I think. Men can be very affectionate toward each other in a manly sort of way, but we're wired/socially conditioned to think "affection = fucking", so it short circuits the male emotional center and the default "ERROR: CANNOT FIND TOKEN" response is "no homo".
Dude, you need to learn about Bromance... it's affection times 100!

I usually use it as a joking preface when I'm about to say something that extremely denotes homosexuality. Mostly as a small mockery of the aforementioned bro culture. I don't know anyone who says it in an actual serious tone, I've only ever heard it used in the way I just described. Might be a young kid thing, but I'm only 23 so I don't know how much weight that theory holds.

I'm straight and drive a purple PT Cruiser with matching seat covers. I have no fear of being seen with my gay male friends, or doing things with them in public. Just because I do things with gay people doesn't mean I want to choke his chicken.

OK, I'll admit I took that expression straight out of YuGiOh Abridged episode. I didn't even ponder about it too much, I just thought it was a common British expression '-_-

Come to think of it, 'straight as a die' doesn't make much sense does it? :/
I should have said 'straight as an arrow'.
Hehe, no problems. I've just never heard that expression before.

"straight as an arrow" works though. :)

With guys, we seem to feel that being close with another man is tantamount to homosexuality. For reasons I don't understand, just typing that sentence made me want to add brackets saying : (In a totally not gay way)... Which kinda proves the point of this thread...

But we need to seperate society into groups and slap stickers on them for easy recognition!
I hate it when you can deduce a characters sexuality in tv-series etc by just looking at their appearance and mannerisms... >_>
It's like the difference between Glee and Doctor Who. If you look at the whole cast of Glee and try to "Spot the gay", so to speak, it's a no-brainer going by stereotype. Jack Harkness is a much more... refreshing character.

Myself, I have on occasion been asked if I were gay. I just like hugs... :(

I myself is rather fond of the expression "straight as the shortest distance between any two valid points."
Studying university mathematics did strange things to my vocabulary.

EDIT: I have never in my life used the phrase "I'm not gay, but...", nor will I.

What really saddens me is that it's almost strictly a male issue as well. Girls don't harass each other for being lesbian or bi, and guys will respond with the token "awesome!" response. The comment by SimuLord about "bro culture" is frightening in how true it likely is. It's sad how much intolerance there is in the world. People argue, and kill, over race, sexuality, religion, class and even upbringing.
It could be its just "contemporary" or "Standard" Society thinks about this subject. Books that are thousands of years old say its "Wrong" to do that are the grounds that society is build on. Try and change the standards and practices then the world goes ape S*** over it. Sadly it is a male dominated society still but its still in a major transition\shift but in 20 years all of this will be an afterthought that society was stupid back then.

For a lot of people ignorance is bliss except when they are confronted by the subject. Then they have to decide. If I had to ask myself if I'm gay or not, I might be bi-sexual but I'm not sure. I've had thoughts about it but for now I'm straight. It will happens when it happens and I don't have a problem with people saying their gay or not. Doesn't bother me a bit.
The catch is that some books (mostly religious texts coincedently) that are a few thousand years old say it's wrong, but at the same time other cultures had no problem with homosexuality, or respected it. Look at the Roman Empire, homosexuality wasn't something to shun, they were perfectly fine with it and empraced it. In some regions of the empire, it was considered a virtue. Of course, the Catholic church will try and claim none of that ever happened in thier beloved Italy, but it did. For 5 century's it did.

Re-writing history seems to be a specialty of certain groups, isn't it?

Its really sad when that happens, I think. :(

Not sure, I know in my group of friends we sort of act really really gay but none of us are. It just never bothered me to goof around with friends and make a joke out of it. Some people are just insecure I guess
