I'm going to buy it, making sure the developers get their money, then pirate a copy that doesn't require all the time online.

That's not wrong, I bought it, I'm just getting a better copy.
It is wrong to support the developers when you don't approve of the DRM. You are sending the message that you approve with your wallet.

As for the other, it's a risky topic here so I won't speak of it.

Speaking only for myself here, but I'm still quite indifferent. I won't play it on the run, and if I should need entertainment without internet connection, I'll just play something that doesn't require it.
What happens when everyone follows Blizzards example and you can no longer play anything without internet? It may be 5 or 10 years down the road but if people are apathetic now, it will happen.

Also, I can't believe how many people are willing to give control of what and when they play over to Blizzard or their ISP.

Speaking for those of us who haven't had an internet outage in over a year, I have no issues whatsoever with always-on DRM. You should be less angry with DRM and more angry with your shitty internet in my opinion.
I swear that's exactly what I think every god damn time someone mentions the always on-line requirement.I for one have had a continuous internet connection for 5 years, only time I ever had a problem was when some drunk idiot decided it would be fun to cut my cable. Also I don't really see the point of all the "I won't buy Diablo 3 because they have destroyed my life asking me to always be online." threads. Must be some internet fad.

Tell me now that everyone in those yellow and red areas have stable internet connections and that allowing practices like this to go on unchallenged won't increase the amount of games that use such ridiculous measures. Look at it like this;

When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.

When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.

When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.

When they came for the Jews,
I remained silent;
I wasn't a Jew.

When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.

What happens if they take up a business practice that penalizes you, and no one does anything because it doesn't effect them,
I'm not flaming, nor defending the relevance of this thread, but saying something like that just annoys me a bit.
Wait, that area, right of Canada, what is that? Greenland? Hm, didn't know they were a third world country. Same with China, thought they were a first world country.

To be honest, I don't really care. I am sorry, I must be a terrible person for that, but honestly I don't. My whole point is why make a thread about something you won't buy. No one gives a shit. At all. No one. Nadda.

That is the point I was trying to make.
Well you're hardly a terrible person for that. I'm not entirely sure that the highlighted statement is true, however I agree that this thread is pretty pointless. Mind you, I prefer it to the Skyrim hype threads.

I can't wait for the game and I will definitely buy it.

That said, I hate the forced online play. I played D2 for hundreds of hours and I bet less than 10 of them were online because I disliked the online community. I don't know enough about D3 yet, but I'm really hoping they have a single player component to their game that simply uses the internet for it's auction house and DRM.

I don't want to be forced to go out into the world and play the game with other people. I don't want to have to have a thousand tells asking me to join guilds/buy x/sexual comments/racist comments. Nor do I want to walk around a city hub watching people use their characters in inappropriate ways that take me out of the gaming world.

I applaud the OP in the decision to vote with their wallet. But the reality is the future of gaming is online...and you'll either have to accept that or stop gaming entirely.

A few weeks ago my Bnet account was locked because apparently someone hacked it. I haven't touched it in months. I got it resolved but my product keys for my Blizzard games were attached to that account. Not much, just Starcraft Battle Chest and WOW but it made me stop and think that Blizzard isn't really all that secure if my account can be hacked in my absence (how would I prevent that) and I would lose access to my games that require online access.

I will not ever buy Starcraft 2 or Diablo III because when I put them down for a few months, I may lose them forever due to someone hacking my account. That's $120 down the drain. I won't risk it.
I'm sorry to hear that. I had a similar problem, but it happened because my home computer got a keylogging virus and sent my password to a gold selling company. However, they make it really easy to stop that by adding an authenticater to your account. If you have an iPod Touch or an iPhone, it makes it even easier because all you have to do is install an app onto it. I haven't had a single problem with my account since I got one, other than if I want to play and happen to forget my iPod somewhere but that's my own problem.

Sadly that is the problem with online computer games in general: they can be easily stolen through getting a simple virus. However Blizzard is one of the few companies who allow you to have extra security. Again I'm sorry to hear that your trust with them was violated, but here's hoping you'll be willing to give them the second chance that everyone deserves.
P.S. Starcraft II is well worth the money. Sure, I do get tired of it and put it down for a month or two, but every time I come back it's more fun than before.

OT: Good for you for not buying it, because that means you're using your right as a consumer to buy or not buy something based on how you feel. However, I'm going to exercise that same right and purchase the game the day it comes out and enjoy the hell out of it. I'm not going to try and make you change your mind about it, but at the same time I hope that you won't try to make anyone change their mind about it either.

My issue with always-on DRM is having an internet conneciton that occasionally cuts out for justa few seconds but also that I'm being treat like a criminal even though I've legitimately bought the game meanwhile some pirates crack the DRM and can enjoy the game without any hassle at all.

Cause of the always on-line requirements.

I always liked Diablo series, but was never a huge fan. I played the first one, and played the second one quiet a bit, so i was looking forward to Diablo 3.

I have a good computer, stable and fast internet connection, and had all the intention of buying the game (instead of getting a hacked copy, which i can oh so easily do), but i wont.

Whos with me? :)

P.S. this isnt about the latest Jimquisition episode. I decided not to buy Diablo 3 a long time ago, Jim just reminded me :)
Ok, so you are one person that won't buy it out of the ten or so million people that will?

I am sorry, why should any of us care? Do you want a pat on the back? How about an escort to the Prom? Honestly, why even make a thread out of this unless you are just trying to piss off a whole lot of people?

Personally, I am going to buy it. Why? I don't care about DRM that is implemented well (Steam and Blizzard I trust). However, you don't see me making a bloody thread out of it.

Why did you honestly create a thread about it? That is what I would like to know.
This... sooo much this ! :p Got pretty much same opinion as Captain Ponyholder ^^

I'll make a stand. I REFUSE TO BUY DIABLO 3. Why? Because TITAN QUEST AND PATH OF EXILE ARE BETTER GAMES. Probably... maybe. I dunno, I liked them.

So, let me get this straight. You will not be purchasing a copy of Diablo 3 because... it needs a internet connection to play. I don't get it. Please clarify on the logic and reasoning here dude.

Exactly. I was jamming for this game, was going to upgrade my laptop so I could play it at full spec, but now I want nothing to do with it. I play City of Heroes for my always-online multiplayer fix. I want nothing to do with a game that forces me to be online for no benefit to me.
This game is designed to be played like an mmo with your friends, there in lies the benefit. maybe there is some logic to you and OP but i can't see it. seems like you are refusing to buy a game because it wants you to play it as intended. bizarre nonsequiter.

This is the problem with gamers, always see anything that isn't exactly as usual within a game as a problem, not a solution.

Please tell me you're not trying to start a boycott.
Diablo 3 will sell no matter what, and fair enough that you don't like the always on DMR if you could call it that, but it doesn't bother me in the slightest
I don't go lugging my computer around and my internet never dies, so it doesn't effect me and I'm sure there are a lot more like me, certainly more than the people arguing against blizzard

The always-on requirement is less about DRM and more about the fact that Diablo has always been enriched by being a multi-player game.

What's the point of grinding for 1000's of hours to get the mightiest equipment when there is no-one to see it; no-one to benefit from your help in co-op, no-one to suffer from it in PvP, no one to see and acknowledge your achievement?

Congratulations if you have been born without the capacity for vanity. Many of us have. Can't wait :)

It's not even the always-online thing that gets me, it's the real-money auction house. Don't get me wrong, the always-online DRM is something I'm against, but I'm against pay-to-win games even more.
How do you 'win' at an eternal grind-fest like Diablo? What advantages does the AH offer paying players that isn't open to non-paying players, aside from convenience?

This basically shows how much NOT of a fan you are, how quickly you would discard the quality of the game and hours of good entertainment. Because of a simple 'difficulty' which you would rather boycot like a little whiner than ignore and actually try it.

Nobody cares if you don't buy the game, there are 11 million people out there who will.

Guess who will bite their lip in jelousy if they see someone play it.

You.
Oh wow!

First of all, if someone is NOT a fan then they won't be jealous of someone else playing it will they? Secondly, it takes more courage to stand up for consumer rights and not encourage this kind of DRM than it does to go with the flow and call others "whiners". Third, you sound desperate to play this game no matter how many flaming hoops you have to jump through. If it were drugs or alcohol they would call it a controlling addiction. Just some things to consider.
Dude, I at least am going to try the game first before I even give it a thumbs up or a thumbs down. I have been in love with the Diablo series since my childhood, but I am still going to judge the game accordingly. If it turns out to be shit, I will just throw it into my 'good games gone bad' bin underneath my desk.

Also, *Not* buying the game because of some silly DRM issues isnt going to stop other people from buying the game or make blizzard stop producing the game. This isn't a boycott, its more equivalent of standing on a mail-box butt naked in WoW and screaming "Don't buy gold".

Its like a child "boycotting" his parents that he doesn't want to eat broccoli.

It's actually quite pathetic.

You want real change? Join the game-developing, or get a degree in business and throw yourself into the industry. Make a game that doesn't NEED DRM and is safe to play on computer, without it being stolen/pirated. Climb the ladder of the business you are in and start making important decisions. ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING.

And it's not like its a big thing anyway, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood was basically "Always online". Most people in the world have access to the internet, DECENT access to the internet, so why are people ranting about this.

Seriously, this is stupid.

Companies lose costumers and gain others. It's not that big of a deal.

Also, I'm not buying Diablo 3 because I'm not much of a fan of Diablo. I'm not buying Dark Souls (yet) because I'm buying Rage.
