I don't believe you.

20 hours, and you've NEVER won? You also can't join any servers and get booted when you do, despite this you've played 20 hours also you've played enough to "know" it doesn't get better rage quit when your ganked, and get butthurt when your called names.

I think your new, your not very good yet, and your mad. Play some more get better, or quit.

I never had any problems connecting to any server (Europe), nobody ever bitched about noob players (and I pick servers randomly), you need to either play a lot on one class or learn from tf2wiki about each class advantages to play reasonably.

Spy is my most played class, got 11 hours with it and max number of point 27 (in that loading screen thingy), you cant do anything but hide when youre cloaked, when enemy touches you when youre cloaked you start to get visible. You need to be stealthy and smooth, and you can create damage in enemy team like no other :).

About hats, seriously who gives a fuck about hats, I enjoy the game and never payed a thing for stupid hat(granted except for 5 euros for Orange box).

"I hate this thing!!"

...um, thanks. If you wanted help getting into it, this would be a discussion. Instead it's a one-by-one list of personal issues you had with the game (how many people's experience matches yours, do you think? How many people hate the game because you got kicked? You hate it because it was you. If someone got kicked next to you, you wouldn't have batted an eyelid.)

You don't want help, you just want to complain. This is a nothing thread, as far as I'm concerned.

You see, Spies can seem so much more annoying than they really are. With the one time you're backstabbed, you missed all the time the Spy spent hiding, avoiding enemies and dying. It is a very fragile class that usually doesn't make that much difference in a game. It only seems incredibly power because when they kill you, it's sudden and without time to respond.

As for your other problems, players not liking you isn't a problem with the game, it's a problem with the people you're playing with. Maybe you're an ass and haven't said that, or maybe they're an ass and you just ended up playing with them. Either way, it isn't the games fault. Not connecting? Maybe it's your internet.

When you're a spy, there's no room for mistakes. If your enemy has seen the person you're disguised as in the last 5 minutes, they're gonna be suspicious. Hell, as an Engie, I shoot-test my team mates every time I SEE them.

Also, cloaking doesn't last.

Spies have to be dedicated. It takes a shit load of practice friend.

1: Search for "n00b" servers, I recommend LotusClan servers (I think they have some US ones) and maybe UKMD, as we've got some Americans too and they seem to do just fine.

2: Stop typing, start either talking or just playing. Communication is important in TF2, it's TEAM Fortress 2 afterall.

3: Stop using the Spy. It's an incredibly hard class to be, and not for beginning players. Start with the Soldier, the Sniper or Medic. Those 3 give you a completely different perspective on the battlefield and can teach you valuable lessons.

Wait what? Laptops are bad for playing the game?

Ah well, I'm using a better computer and same connection so can't be worse.

You lied in the end, everything gets better with time, hell, if it didn't, you probably wouldn't type the speed you do, or talk the way you do, or run, or do X skill as well as you do, so no, you lied right there.
It depends on region, for me, I have 0 issue joining server and have almost no problem winning a match. The game takes time to learn, so be patient, it IS a virtue after all. [I'm in North America. I also spent about 5,000 hours, and I think I'm pretty good. ] You have to learn your class, and if you are being called a cheater as spy, point them that the spy is a backstabber and to be less stupid next time. If you get killed, or you can't get the kill, its a graphical glitch on some games, check your defrag on the game. It might fix it, but you have to remember, be self aware, placement, precision, target. Again, it takes time to learn, sure its hard to learn, but its still worth it once you get the hang of it. Heres the wiki.
http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Main_Page

And yes, it gets easier with practice, my advise, choose one class to exclusively play, once you feel your good enough, learn the basics of every other class, it helps to know what a spy might be thinking or a medic might be targeting, or what a sniper may shoot. Basically, this comic explains what happens throughout learning the game.
http://www.nerfnow.com/comic/438

Don't give up, learn a class, be proficent in class, move on through every other class, hell, you'll grow good, you just need to be watered well.

I think picking the right class as a noob is important. IMO this is how I would choose for a noob to try in order...

1. Medic
2. Soldier
3. Heavy
4. Engineer (this is when things get complicated)
5. Scout
6. Demoman
7. Pyro
8. Spy

the wild card is Sniper. You can put it really anywhere. I am terrible at sniping, and for the most part you are completely worthless unless you are really good at it. It's not hard to understand your role, but tough to master. If you are good at sniping in other games, put it towards the top. If not, towards the bottom. Of course noobs love this class and a team of snipers is completely worthless. I prefer people who are new leave this one alone for a while.

BTW...as a noob Medic, you will get stabbed a lot by spies. You are one of their main targets. Don't take it as you should play Spy. Alert your teammates you are getting hit by spies. Good teammates will eliminate them for you. Once you get really good you will learn how to avoid them. It takes a bit of paranoia though.

Its not a "crap" class, its a difficult class. There is a big difference and for a new player who doesn't even know the maps a difficult class is not a good choice.

What you need to do is find a friendly server, there will be some, then play something like medic or soldier. At least until you have a good handle on the maps and how the fighting usually plays out.

1 very good Spy on a team can make a huge difference. Sadly, people fall in love with the class and are often not very good at it. It takes timing, planning, knowledge of maps, and skill to do it right. Yet I would say 99% of them make Spy a useless class for the team. It's a great class when done right, yet that rarely happens.

Oops, I quoted the wrong one (meant for the one stating Spy is a crap class). Anyway, I am not a fan of playing Spy since I find it somewhat boring. Yet when done well, it works well. Too bad it's rarely done well and often too many people play it since it's so unique.

20 hours on a game is not enough time be considered even hardcore or to properly become good at the game and learn all of its nuances and mechanics unless you are a god or Swedish. I have also never seen anyone being kicked for being a newb I have seem people being kicked for being a noob.

Spy is not a cheater just because you can't use a Spy yet and can't back stab when it is a difficult back stab does not make the class a cheater class. To be honest way too many spies are too fucking obvious and over use Dead Ringer badly I might add. To say one more time 20 hours in a game like tf2 which people have put thousands of hours into is nothing.

Ehhhh, I agree with everything else, but this? No sir. The spy has the greatest Risk/Reward play style, and even though he isn't my favorite class, I still have the most hours played as him.

If you're discovered, chances are you'll be killed, but if you're not? Well, time to get to work and ruin someone's day.
I'm inclined to agree. It's difficult to master but when you have a really good day then you can wipe out the entire team with ease.

I had this moment on the Escapist server once and the overall cussing was extremely rewarding. They never even knew the rapetrain was acomin'. Think I ended the match with at least 30 points to the second best player. Of course this was after the F2P update me thinks so it might not be such an achievement after all, but by God it was glorious.

Well at least I got that covered.

I recommend it for noobs because it offers a unique, almost birds-eye view from the battlefield. I have a few friends who started playing when it went F2P, and they complained that the game seems so incredibly chaotic. And I can't blame them, because it does look like that when you're standing in the fray.

Hence why I recommended the Sniper. You can learn the lay of the land a bit that way, see why people are fighting on that-and-that spot, see where people come from, learn to recognise choke points. Those things get a bit more clear when you zoom out.

It also learns them more easily which characters are more important, as the Sniper's goal is to take out high priority targets. As an added bonus, beginning Snipers quickly learn the importance (not the act itself) of spy checking, as they're such a tasty tasty target for Spies.

Of course it's not perfect, no class is, but I do think that it brings something to the table in terms of teaching some aspects of the game.

1) Never had that problem.
2) Never been booted apart from when I repeatedly stabbed a group of Engineers who were setting up a disco in 2fort's sewers.
3) Winning isn't everything.
4) Spy=awesome. Backstabs have to hit the back, not start from behind.

How about training offline with the Spy until you are awesome. Then find a noob friendly server. Then bookmarking that one and playing on that.

Don't come on the Escapist server [steam://connect/uk.tf2.escapistmagazine.com:13013] though, because there may be a Spy that's that awesome already there ;)
