Great, you want to introduce more plot-points that don't make any sense at all.

.... So it would fit right in with the game...

I think IW would like your idea.

I'd vomit with disgust at such blatant sentimentality, and be glad what happened next happened. I only get all teary-eyed in a CoD game if one of my favourite team-mates got kablooed into oblivion, not if my wife who gets a cameo for a few seconds dies. Ah well, he can get a new one.

[sub]Oh right... never mind about that...[/sub]

Yes, it's a wonder they haven't hired me already.

Or they could have just focused on making the rest of the game not shit.
That made me laugh, even though I loved the (single player) game.

I thought the airport scene was a blatantly obvious attempt to cause some controversy. It would have been just as emotionally effective as a cutscene.

If IW really wanted controversy they could have had you kill Vladimir Putin in the airport scene. That would definitely have hit the nail on the head. Plus it would explain why they went to war.

So what's your idiotic excuse for why an American soldier's wife was in Moscow Airport, as in Russia.
Your wife was having an affair with Makarov.
Wouldn't be too torn up about her, then. Why would Makarov kill her if he was having an affair with her?

Why not just play it from the point of view of a civilian with his family?

Oh,and beside your dead wife, your 2 year old girl is being systematically raped and stabbed at the same time! and your dog is getting curcified!

all jokes aside, i think this is a bad idea, because, i don't know about you, but i'd start shooting all the people who are shooting the civilians if my wife was dead on the floor.

That would actually be kinda cool. You could start off having to hide and then find a gun and take out one of the terrorists. Then die heroically trying to kill the rest but you would die.

And your wife is working with them and is forced to choose between her family and her work.

She chooses work. Then, you (irl) ragequit because your wife is a ***** and never play that PoS game again.

She outlived her usefulness: she was the one who informed Makarov of the US's entire plot, and once he knew, he killed her so she wouldn't get word back to you. He planned the attack the same day she would be in the airport.

I guess I didn't convey my meaning clearly. I was trying to make the point "they didn't do this scene at all well" and then provide one suggestion as to how they could have made it even the slightest bit better. Apologies for my idea not being thought through.

Great, a forced break in the action(I enjoyed the twenty seconds of target practise before the real level) while watching an 'emotional' scene about an NPC that's worth about as much emotional attachment as the security guard with two days left to retirement. [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Retirony]
You could have warned me before linking to TV tropes you complete and utter bastard.

On another completely off topic note, does anyone know what happens if you choose not to play through the airport scene at the start of the game? The plot would make even less sense if it was just pick-axed out with no explanation.

Ha! Emotion in Modern Warfare 2? Yeah, right.

The closest thing I felt to emotion in that game was rage at the bastard who killed a certain Ghost.
I fucking hated Ghost!

Is she also a doctor who has to choose between her job and her faith? Is a storm coming?
