As for the likes of the folk you bumped into? You shall have the great joy of being served burgers by them in a few years.

We can only hope that sort ends up extinct, but what with the high reproduction rate of them, it's not something that'll happen.

I used to go to school there in Edlington (that burnt down, by the way, which shows you what sort of area it is), and I live just down the road in the neighbouring village, and it didn't surprise me when this news broke, so desensitized was I by the people that I'd met there. The sad thing is, many of the parents of these kids condone this kind of stuff. It's just one of those areas where things never change, unfortunately. When I left school there I was delighted.

Let's say writing is illegal. And children don't know how to do this illegal thing. Thus, if a child does do it, he must know how to write to be a writer.

Now replace write with murder/rape, and writer with murderer/rapist.

Don't defend a child who rapes another child by saying they had no idea what they were doing. They did. And when they do, the innocence and the protection from severe punishment of being a child is gone. A kid who kills or rapes someone, maybe both, should be punished as an adult who killed someone. The chair, the rope, the needle, or the lead. It's deserved. Adult crimes deserve adult punishment.

I agree to some length on some of your post, but this doesn't really apply. I have a better view than most, being as I went to Edlington school for 7 years not too long ago, and Edlington is just a bad area where this sort of thing is 'cool'. Violent attacks like this happen all the time there (admittedly not with knives and 10 year olds) and these kids will have simply seen their older friends (and family, most likely) generally being dickhead chavs to everyone, and, being kids, decided to 'outdo' them all.

The fact is, these kids probably didn't have any idea about any of the art forms you listed - their evenings will have been spent riding around on bikes, drinking, smoking and generally being antisocial whenever possible. They've been brought up in an environment where that sort of thing is common, and they are obviously twisted enough people to embrace it rather than run from it. It's really quite sad that almost everyone under the age of 25 in Edlington would probably accept this behaviour if it hadn't been picked up by the national media.

Sorry if this seems a little ranty, it isn't directed at the quoted at all, but I have had first hand experience with the sort of people who performed these acts and it still makes my skin crawl.
