I don't quite understand why people hate the fridge part so much. I liked the film.

Hopefully Lucas listens to fans this time, although that is one hell of a stretch

The fourth one sucked...here's hoping that the tradition continues of the odd numbered flicks being the good ones:

Raiders: All time classic
Temple: WTF?? Definitely no Empire Strikes Back in this franchise...
Crusade: Of course Indy's father would have to be James Bond...
Skull: Shia is the most insufferable actor to add to an established franchise since Jake Lloyd...

did you actually SEE the original movies? they weren't revolutionary, they had plots that were used TONS of times before, didn't have an original setting in the least, didn't define any genre at all.

seriously you should go watch the originals again and then make your comments cause you've frankly got no clue about Indiana Jones and where the stories come from because they have been done over and over tons of times, this was just another take on a bunch of OLD stories
I have the films on DVD and the books on my bookshelf. Perhaps you might want to take your own advice....
actually i own the movies AND i saw them on their original run in the theatres too. actually i own them on both dvd AND vhs, much like star wars

so why don't you follow my advice and go watch them and actually remove your nostalgia and then see how they "great" of a story they are. all 4 are just pulp adventure novels brought to life

try watching all four back to back and then you'll see they're all pretty much the exact same

actually it's not, i think you miss the point of Empire cause Temple of Doom is NOT anywhere close to being the Empire of the series

Whatever.

Perhaps next time you watch them you should try to remember when the original films and books came out...

Or perhaps you'd care to name me another franchise that did the 'archeologist who uses a gun and a whip saves a bit of the world from the combo of supernatural + evil' before Indiana Jones.

A great story is not only defined how it looks today, but how it looked when it came out. For example, I personally love the Call of Cthulhu.

I also happen to think that the best James Bond film ever was the Thunderball with Tomorrow Never Dies a close second. Third would go again to the classic side, the Goldfinger.

BWAAAAAHAHA.. Ahaha..

Yeah. This is terrible.

Lucas has gotten bored with StarWars now that it is all battered and bruised, now it's time for the little purdy Indiana to beg for mercy.

Indiana IV wasn't that bad, the cheesiness wasn't any worse the previous movies, but as someone mentioned earlier.. No aliens in Indiana. Just.. No.

I'll see Indiana V, if it really does happen, but I'll be ready to throw Jaffas at the screen.

I didn't think the Crystal Skull was THAT bad. But I must admit that I hadn't actually seen the original movies until just before the 4th came out (I watched them so I could see the 4th one in the theatre).

My favourite one was the 3rd but how can you possibly beat Sean Connery and Harrison Ford in the same movie? Come on, that's impossible.

On the bright side, if it keeps George Lucas busy we'll be less apt to have to endure another Star Wars.

And yeah, the Crystal Skull was decent (as good as The Temple of Doom, I'd think), sans a few distasteful moments and Shia in general.

do you mean in the early 80s for the movies or the 20s - 50s when the orignal pulp novels came out?

Or perhaps you'd care to name me another franchise that did the 'archeologist who uses a gun and a whip saves a bit of the world from the combo of supernatural + evil' before Indiana Jones.
do some reading by starting here

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulp_novel

there are several super natural detectives and such in the pulp novel era, you can look at Doc Savage or other ones

you should really learn about Indiana Jones and the history of it before you try to claim to know anything cause it's rather obvious you have no clue

I didn't mind Shia LeBouf, I thought of him as an okay actor, and that he was also good in other movies I've seen him in. However, it was the stroyline that I didn't like about the film. The aliens plot twist at the end just didn't suit Indiana Jones, because as Therumancer said:

it clashes with the previous styles of mysticism.
I didn't notice the fridge thing at first but afterwards when looking at various comments about it I realised that it was just unrealistic.

However, if Spielberg and Lucas are keen to learn from their mistakes, then the fifth movie could be good, but I'm not a big Indie fan anyway so I may not see it if it does come out.

Crystal Skull was fine until Aliens, Indy is the Bible and black magic.
actually no Indy is a pulp adventure and aliens are very much a part of those things, so it's right up Indy's ally
Oh even that taken into account it still sounds like a weird jump to make, I've never known another film series or any other media to do aliens and magic (and then to do it well)

The books, naturally. They are the original source for Indiana Jones. The films also, but mainly in terms of that day film-industry techniques and capability in special effects.

I feel that the latest Indy was partially ruined by the special effects. The story, the driving force behind Indiana Jones, was left to the backseat.

As a standalone, non-Indy, movie the Crystal Skull would have been an average film. The fact that it was supposed to be an Indy movie detracted from the experience: If you plan to resurrect a classic, you better do a good job of it, is my point in this. They did not. The made merely average.

And of the books: I have read other similar books. But Indiana Jones did it better and did it with style. It might not have been the first supernatural detective book ever, but I feel it was to 'archeologist saves the world from evil' style to what Fallout 2 was to computer RPG.

you should really learn about Indiana Jones and the history of it before you try to claim to know anything cause it's rather obvious you have no clue
And perhaps you should reread what you've learned, because it's obvious you haven't dealt with the subject in quite a while.

But if this is going to turn into a 'Yes!' ' No!' 'I know better!' 'No I do!' competition, then I have better things to do. Say something of substance next time if you plan on continuing this discussion between us.

So...it was one of the last greats of its kind, just taking bits and pieces of a bunch of similar works to make their own...and this is somehow original?

I'm sure if I was a fan of the series I'd be annoyed, but since the fourth is the only one I've seen, I'm happy with a fifth.
