I hate this movie with a passion. It's duller than dirt and for a movie called 'Inglorious Basterds', it was hardly about the basterds at all. Nope, it's pretty much three hours of anyone but. And I have no problem with subtitles, but Jesus Christ! If I wanted to read, I would have stayed home and read a damn book. (oh wait, the only reason I saw that god awful movie was because I was kicked out w/ my brothers for a few hours.)
This comment gives me a headache.
But, really, there's meaningful subtext to the title. The "Basterds" weren't just Raine and his company but all of the major players in their own ways lived up to the title "inglourious basterds". They all made morally ambiguous choices (at best!)and I think the title reflects that.

As far as the subtitles--ever watch anime with subtitles? Or any foreign films? I'm guessing not.

This movie was extremely good and something we'll actually be able to look back on in 20 years and say, "Hey, that was a pretty good movie." Unlike Avatar.

I went in not really knowing Tarantino. I watched Reservoir Dogs when I was about 12 or 14 and didn't like it, but saw Kill Bill last year and did like it. So I was on the fence.

Now I love Tarantino. What a director.

I didn't see it since Tarantino hasn't made a good film since Jackie Brown. The majority of his films play out like what would happen if a genre fanboy got a hold of a huge budget, in essence. He makes very snappy, but rather shallow films, for the most part, so I didn't see the point in wasting my hard earned coin.

So that is a "meh" from me I guess, though that "meh" goes for most of his catalog.

If you don't appreciate the style or gore, then don't ever watch a Tarantino movie. I personally loved the movie, while the rest of my family hated it.

Loved it. I especially loved the fact that:

The main villain was defeated because he was too trusting.

I mean, how ironic!

I liked it. There was excellent tension throughout, specially in those tri-langual scenes where characters would understand what one person is saying in one language, but not the others (this matters as they are all waiting to kill each other).

I didn't like the continuous references to classic German or French cinema. That seemed like arbitrary and film student-ish symbolism.

Loved it. Basically love anything Tarantino has done. And both the actresses who played Shosanna and von Hammersmack are gorgeous!

Quentin just can make the tension of a conversation feel like everyone is going to die in the next second if they mess up, and have to just be more convincing with their obvious lies just to live. Ya, I though it was going to be a corny "killing nazi's' flick, but it ended up extremely enjoyable to watch. Closer to a spy flick then anything else. Probably one of the best films of 2009.

I like wordy movies when they are done well. V for vendetta was a little wordy and it's one of my favourite movies.

It probably came closer to some fundamental truths about WW2 that few movies have. I liked it a lot, but not as much as Death Proof. I run the lines in that movie in my head when I daydream.

"You expected guys to be pestering you all night, but from your look I can tell nobody pestered you at all. That kind of hurt your feelings a little bit, didn't it? There are few things as fetching as a bruised ego on a beautiful angel."

My child like brain suffered an A.D.D moment and I didn't make it past the first 20 minutes. So I'm guessing it's not that good if it can't keep my attention. Then again I hate movies about war.

I thought it got better every time I watched it. I just think the marketing department screwed over the viewer. The film I saw certainly wasn't what I came to see (though I enjoyed it anyway). I suppose we should all know what to expect from Tarantino now, anyway.
