"SPACED" is a good one, it features Simon "that funny guy who did Shaun Of The Dead" Pegg in one of his first roles. You can actually see where the inspiration for Shaun Of The Dead came from along with a lot of other things that he's gotten into lately. It's a mess of movie references, geek culture and hyper-real satire and tongue-in-cheek comedy, I strongly suggest it.

Also, "The Office" is brilliant, so is anything Bill Bailey has been in (I strongly recommend "Black Books") and "The Mighty Boosh" is amazing if you're into surrealist comedy like Monty Python. Oh, that's another one for the list.

well as an englishman i don't like tea, it makes me feel sick, so when i told an American this he said 'WHAAAA' haha.

Also to you Americans, where did the teeth stereotype come from? I mean, there is loads of people in this country with bad teeth, and thank god i'm not one of them, but at what point did someone decide to justify that as a stereotype?

Also even though i like some Americans...

As an Englishman in England being English, with a dash of bias and a metric ton of misanthropy, I can safely say we are not to be trusted. More so than any other nationality because you just can't tell what we're hiding in our mutton chop sideburns and crumpets.

Nah seriously though, I don't like it here. I've lived on a grubby council estate all my life and I'm sick of the sub-human dirt I have to walk past on a day-today basis. Given the chance, I'd be living in Vancouver or something. Much better place.

I'm English and I hate the fact that a ridiculous amount of us seem to believe that we're still the leaders of a big fuck off Empire. What the fuck?? We're a small, pretty insignificant island! We have nowhere near that amount of power anymore and we need to come to terms with that fact, pronto. I'm sick of being America's lapdog and thinking we're cool because of it.

I hate that people think we're too good for the EU too. Like we wouldn't immediately go into collapse if we left it. Fucking morons.
I's agree, where did we get this ego from. It means i've been half hating this world cup, after each match at least one of my mates or myself have been started on for no reason. Being English seems to mean you can be a dickhead.

I think you;re being too modest.
If you guys haven't jump started the evolution of industry back in 18something-something, I doubt we'd have all these marvellous technology today.
Oh, and you say that you're just a small island that doesn't rule, or have power over anything.
Well you guys kinda rule the world, culturally speaking.
I mean English is one of the most spoken languages in the world if not the most spoken(I'm not 100% sure here), and many, many countries try to aspire to English standards(those how go for the US standards, just think that your;s are harder to get to).
Every kid out there wants to learn English(and then maybe an other language)
Heck, the internet's main language is English.
You've "concurred" the world culturally to say the least.

OT: I consider all English to be funny looking teens like this guy:

Thing is, you're probably thinking of the wrong accent.

I'm British. This is what we really look like:

Well, one of us anyway.
Also I think you guys have all a special(somewhat dry and direct) sense of humour. It is funny but you need to be in a certain mood for it.

Don't know why but that's what I have in mind.

No, no, no!
Only the SOUTH are the dolts, except for Florida, which are nothing but old people.

OT: Anyway, I kinda see the English as just normal People, but with accents and a love for fish and chips.
Florida = Bournemouth, in the same way as San Francisco = Brighton.

England is similar to USA except on a really REALLY small scale.
If you want to know where I think I come from, I would say something like Iowa, farms and more farms around here.

They are the those guys that sent white people to Australia to liberate it from the natives. Mostly I suppose they are people who are similar to us. Although after their expiration date they die when the temperature goes over thirty degrees, which is frankly rather silly of them.

So yes, they are our pasty forefathers who die if left out in the sun.

Pretty much, most of us don't give a toss about the Empire days anyone, but some people jsut can't seem to let it go. As for the EU, as a free trade community its a good idea, but I dont seee why we need a single European parliament deciding on laws for everybody.

You know what pisses me off? How stupid we are about sports. Take the world cup - I've had so many people telling me I'm an idiot or a pessimist because I insist that England will not win. This is just how things are. We are not very good, we only just squeaked through the group stage. We won last night by the skin of our teeth, yet everyone I was at the pub with kept telling me it was a brilliant game, and that we were really on form. No. Just...no. If we can barely pull off a 1-0 win against bloody Slovenia then we are not at the top of our game. You can apply the same stupid optimism to anything; cricket, tennis, whatever. People are always totally convinced that we're going to win, and surprised when we don't.

I'm no fan of the EU though. I don't like the fact that I'd have to obey laws that were passed in Brussels.

Well to be honest, not many people can tell all the small differences between accents. It may infuriate you, but all the accents in the U.K. sound very, very similar, to the point where anyone, not just Americans, can't tell the difference.
Which confuses the hell out of me. The UK is not like America, where most regional accents sound the same. We have such a wide variety of accents that it is possible for people from different parts of the country to be completely unable to understand each other. Have you seen Hot Fuzz? Remember the scene where the main character needs two translators to talk to a farmer with a strong accent? We have people who actually talk like that.

We're hardly insignificant, we're in the G8 so we are still a major world power. Also don't criticise those who hate the EU when you clearly don't have any information about it. Most aren't opposed to the idea, what annoys people is that a bunch of foreigners are making laws that we cannot change, without them ever having been to Britain or knowing how these laws will affect the population. In no way would we collapse if we left the EU since our strongest ally is the US and not any European nation. No offence but if you don't know anything about politics, don't comment.
Dude, you think he US knows more about us than the EU? America doesn't give a fuck about us! We're just a little country that wants to be them! As our own country, we have a tiny amount of say on the world stage and the sooner people like you come to terms with that, the better.

Our strongest ally is the EU because we actually have a say in what the EU does. We get so much out of the EU that people like you who talk politics out of your arse have no idea about. Politics isn't all about wars and who's the strongest, it's about negotiating the best deals. Do you honestly think that the US will consider our views? The EU will because it has to as a democracy. How dare you bust in and make ridiculously shitty comments and then accuse me of knowing nothing about politics!

At least you've given me some practice for my fucking politics exam on Monday, thanks man.

Haha sorry to ruin your little parade, but we no longer have need for the Head of State. They're just there for convention and tourism ;D The Commonwealth? We don't actually have any say over them as an organisation you know??

In my mind, all young English people are Harry Potter, all young men are Jason Statham, all middle aged men are Ricky Gervais, and all old men look like this. [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/QuintessentialBritishGentleman]
Awww, I wish that was true. Except for the Ricky Gervais bit. Not too keen on him myself.

I used to be pretty patriotic and would argue for England a lot, but now I've mellowed out and I don't really care how other people see us. The only stereotype that still bothers me is that we have awful food. Other than the Sunday Roast, I'm not sure what IS English food anymore. I'd say we have stolen every other countries dishes and just use them instead. :p

Stop saying English is an accent! America speaks English because the English moved there! American is an accent!

I don't think the English are that strange... I'm from the Netherlands and NO, almost none of us weares clogs, likes cheese and there aren't that much windmills here, but still some people think all of that is true...

Whilst we're on topic, most stereotypes come from a morsel of truth and taken so far you can't even see it's origins.

So could someone fill me in on the bad-teeth stereotype? Something to do with Victorian-era right?

As an Irishman (from roundabouts Cork) I don't really mind them, which is lucky is I live in England. They're just people, with comparatively sensible laws and such (compared to most English-speaking countries).

I don't really like arguing with people that basically are not my friends but i'm sorry what? Our culture consists of quite a bit of Europe and other parts of the world. Our culture now derives from the saxons, the romans, the vikings, and the Normans invading followed by massive amounts of trade from other countries due to us being an Island. So your hating a culture that has developed from European invasions and trade from other continents and countries? Not to mention the mass immigration of Jews during World War II to England as well as god knows who else.

Second of all why do you think we want to be like the USA. Considering Britain was the major country in which America was colonised by the whites, i dont see why we would be reverting to their culture, and even if we were, it's not such a big deal.

Also, This is what i hate about some people in England. Why so down on this country. If it wasn't for the empire, which i know were not now, we wouldn't have the stuff we have to day and we wouldn't be as advanced if it wasn't for the industrial revolution, something by the way we did without the help of Europe. You say you hate this country, well why don't you do something about it then? people in England are very good at complaning about everything without doing anything.

Also by the way, i don't hate the EU, i like the fact that about half of Europe can be united, it does help. However it's also good that we can set our own rules. Now i may be going off track here but never EVER forget British people died in world wars to protect the freedom of this country and give you the freedom of what you have today. And don't say this country is bad, It's an MEDC where you can elect a government, there are worse places in this world.

As for politics i'm not going to argue that, because i can't, not to mention the fact i hate politicians.

I'm sorry if this sounds offensive to anyone, but it's just my opinion.

Rawr!

You know the classic accent everyone thinks we have? I've only ever met 3 people who speak like that.
