If everything was the same except the name. I don't think as many people would be apposed to it. You have less power if you are just a partner. The whole point of getting married legally is for it's benefits over none married relationships.
We're working towards a change in our society, and that's the main thing. Somehow, someway, we'll find a way to work the system so EVERYONE wins. That's what I'm looking for, a WIN/WIN solution, not one side triumphing over the broken bodies of the other.

Well if we agree what's the issue?
That's what I've been wondering lol. It was clear you hadn't been reading my posts lol, I agree it's a shock tactic and should be named something better, I just disagree on your conclusion that it's worthless merely because it is a shock tactic. I think it still has validity; but I respect your opinion anyway.

But at the moment it isn't. And it would be a whole lot simpler if they just let gay people marry. As apposed to them making an entierely seperate thing just for SSLP's.
True, but unlikely to happen until both sides are ready to get rid of their shared bigoted mindset that says anyone who doesn't agree with them must be a filthy demon. Since humans seem to like having the superior ground, I'm keeping well clear of making a judgement on who is right vs who is wrong (at least anywhere other than in my pretty little head).

My argument is that it's nothing without the name. The shock is what makes it stand out. Otherwise it's just pointless ramblings about selfishness. Which is fine. Just really why do you need to put that down in paper. I live my life that way and I don't read how to do that in a book.
I'll pay the second part of that statement. I believe the philosophy can and does stand on it's own without the name, which means it's "something", but possibly not a fully fledged religion, no. But since everyone else can make up their own religion, from Ron Hubbard to Joseph Smith, why not Anton LaVey? Heck, if I could get away with it I'd probably create my own religion too! (Ok, I wouldn't, but only because having followers would mean actually having to look out for them, and I'm both a compulsive caretaker and lazy, which clashes too much.)

It pisses me off to no end when someone of a different point of view is ignorant and judgmental towards you. Honestly, there's nothing worse than the frustration that comes from this.

For example, my mother somehow can't understand no matter how many times I tell her that Satanism has nothing to do with Devil Worship, or even the Christian idea of Satan. She constantly criticizes me for listening to metal, she's even tried to claim that it's not music - just because it's not "relaxing" or "happy" sounding like her fucking Gospel shit that she insists on playing 24/7 because it gives the house a 'Spiritual protection'.

Honestly, I can't stand people who judge something as negative/bad because: A. They're not used to it, or B. Because they don't like it.
I sympathise. The number of times Ive had to explain to someone that just because its said in a growling voice to heavy drums doesn't mean it has ANYTHING at all to do with religion of ANY kind :S

My grandfather is the worst. If its not orchestral or opera it "just noise", even when I put on "canon" by jerry C which is just the original orchestral Canon done to an electric guitar its somehow still "just noise", if we are on the computer, it doesnt matter what we are doing, we are wasting time, playing games or some such rather than say, checking emails, just like he checks his post every morning. Even if Im writing a bloody essay "im wasting my time playing bloody games" even when he can SEE word is open. Its not like he says it ironically either, he MEANS it. Its not like when I tell my friend his R&B is crap why I don't like it but accept that he does. If we get up any later than 10, we have "stayed in bed wasting the whole day" despite the fact in the 3 hours he been up and I havent the ONLY thing he has done is have a cup of tea and go back to bed. 9/10 Im sat at 11 having breakfast with him, fully dressed while he is still in his dressing gown and somehow "I'M" the one thats wasted my day. ITS NOT EVEN STARTED YET!!!! No Im not addicted to the internet, I just cant spend 3 hours doing NOTHING like you can, in 3 hours youve just walked around the house 5 times tutting but done NOTHING! Its not like in those 3 hours while Ive been on the net youve gone and got the lawn mower out like I asked so I can do the lawn, no, but somehow in the evening it MY fault the lawn didnt get mowed!!!! ARRRGHHGHGHGHGHHGHGHGH!!!!!!!

I am sorry but its in our nature to make a judgement based on our experience and our situation because its the closest thing we can source to. Its what Kind of judgememnt that is and on our character. And then if someone is intelligent enough, He stops and thinks of someone else situation/experience/point-of-view AFTER he thinks of himself. The person can then compare and what happens after that is the matter of choice (and thats where character kicks in).

Everyone does it, even you.

By the way... the 9 Satanic Statements:

1. Satan represents indulgence instead of abstinence.
2. Satan represents vital existence instead of spiritual pipe dreams.
3. Satan represents undefiled wisdom instead of hypocritical self-deceit.
4. Satan represents kindness to those who deserve it instead of love wasted on ingrates.
5. Satan represents vengeance instead of turning the other cheek.
6. Satan represents responsibility to the responsible instead of concern for psychic vampires.
7. Satan represents man as just another animal, sometimes better, more often worse than those that walk on all-fours, who, because of his "divine spiritual and intellectual development", has become the most vicious animal of all.
8. Satan represents all of the so-called sins, as they all lead to physical, mental, or emotional gratification.
9. Satan has been the best friend the Church has ever had, as He has kept it in business all these years.

True, it has nothing to do with 'Satan, the Defiler,' and is more of 'Satan, Fuck You,' I can still see how a mother might not like the concept. Also, if metal music turned you to this, you are one hell of a tool.
To elaborate on #9 (and assuming this post wasn't sarcasm, I'm bad at detecting it), I believe the thinking behind Satan Worship is that, without Satan, God would be an oppressor. Think about it. If God's way was the ONLY way made available to you, he would basically be the evil dictator who ruled over you with an iron fist. However, because Satan exists, we are given a point of comparison. More importantly, we are given an alternate choice to God, which makes it all the more significant when we choose God over Satan.

To paraphrase the main idea behind A Clockwork Orange, performing good deeds doesn't mean anything if you are not capable of doing bad deeds. The *decision* to do the right thing, as opposed to the wrong thing, is as important as the act of performing the deed itself.

You can't always stand on the sidelines though. You have to have your own opinions about some things. Otherwise what's the point?
I have them, I just don't often shout them around outside of my home.

As for marriage being a tradition. To those people I say STFU. Tradition is never a good thing. Times change. Everything else has to keep up.
Everything moves at it's own pace. Change will come when it's ready, when enough people are ready to move. Until then, the times haven't "changed" they are merely "evolving". It's in motion and will happen; it's the timing that's under debate, not the eventuality of gay marriage becoming legal.

Also, don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. We have many good, strong traditions which are worth upholding; not only for their own merit, but for our cultural identity. As an Australian from an Irish Catholic/English Methodist background, I am proud of my cultural heritage and have no desire to throw the lot out merely because "things change". Stability is comforting, especially in a changing world, and the last 50 years have so radically reshaped the global landscape that we are still dizzy from the speed at which it has moved and are struggling to keep pace with it. The younger generations are coping better with this; for the elder, with an entire world based mostly around jobs and technology that not just didn't exist, but hadn't so much as been dreamt of when they were young, it's an awful lot to take in.

I remember Nanna telling me, awed and shocked, about the fact they were attempting to devolop a telephone where you could actually SEE the person calling you! Now we take it so much for granted that we have video calls, Skype and so forth... But cut the more conservative some slack. If anything, they're to be pitied for their inability to move with the times, not condemned for their fear.

As a philosophy is passable. Far too narrow minded to work on any large scale. But cut the pseudo-religious bullshit and I wouldn't mind it so much.
But that's "self-transformative psychodrama"! And where would the world be without a nice bit of self-transformative psychodrama? That's what most funerals are for goodness' sake; some nice psychodrama meant to bring comfort to those left behind. Weddings, nice bit of psychodrama meant to indicate a new start, etc etc.

Plus I think it's referred to as "Satanism" precisely because that is where all the human instincts for sex, gratification etc were categorised by the Church... as Evil, as Sin. So it's a way of taking them back and re-owning them. Much in the same way as the gay community took the name "queer" back from being an insult and began using it to describe themselves in order to rob it of it's power. As the Satanists say, words are powerful, so why not use them to your own advantage?

Don't even worry about it. The most intelligent individual I have ever met was a Republican.

Pretty sure he might've been a Devil-Worshipper though.

Just so you know. Satanism isn't a real religion.
I would like to know what makes satanism less of a religion than other "real" religions.

I know. Any time I see some liberal cuntmuffin claim that someone else is obviously a christian, a republican or a freedom hating nazi just because they disagree with them on something really minor like whether gays should be allowed to marry, I just want to execute them on the spot.
Being open minded does not mean only open minded when they agree with your point of view.
Damn it! ninja'd.

But yeah, this pretty much sums my opinions on the topic. In general, the people who preach tolerance for all tend to be pretty intolerant themselves.

It depends what satanism you're buying into.

The translation for all forms of satanism is

"I'm an angsty mofoin teenager and I'm pretending to be a part of this absurd religion to shock you. Because I'm so edgy and different."

How much of a tool that makes you depends entierly on the particular brand you think is coolest.

Just so you know. Satanism isn't a real religion. If you're talking about the tripe Anton LaVey laid out in his 'satanic bible'. It's little more than postured musings on individuality.

It doesn't surprise me that your mother would judge it based on it's name. Because if you're going to call it something like that. You're obviously looking for some kind of reaction from the people you tell.

If you actually want to live by 'the creeds' of individuality and indulgence. Here's a novel idea. Why not just be yourself.

Calling yourself a satanist is just a cheap way of getting a rise out of people.
So well put. Bravo chap, Bravo.
Yes, angsty teens are rarely actual Satanists. But look at my post that's a little bit above yours discussing the thought behind Satanism, and you'll see that REAL Satanism actually has some pretty well-thought-out ideas.
