Oh, dear. I think people aren't reading the OP and just responding to the title of the topic. Well, I can't stop you.

However, I really didn't want to focus on whether Killzone 2 was better than Halo 3, etc. (even though it has been called a "Halo-killer") and explore what was wrong with magazine reviews. There have been people in this thread who say they ignore them, but that Sony should have bribed Edge to give a more favorable review. I only hope they were joking. What about journalistic integrity?

Is there a solution? Can this fanboyism and (apparent) corruption of the critical media be stopped? Ideas anyone?
Sorry, I'll admit I didn't actually read the OP. It was an impulse, I swear >_>;

EDIT: Upon reading the OP, I've edited my original post to fit the need. Sorry for the outbreak.

Well, I'm certainly not complaining that I think 7/10 is a low score to give Killzone 2, because:

- I am far too old to be a fanboy (check bearded avatar)
- I understand that 7/10 is not a low score as far as Edge is concerned
- I don't own a PS3, nor do I plan to buy one in the next 100 years

7/10? Who cares? I think that all the hullaballoo is hilarious, it's a video game for Jeebus's sake! The way some people go on, you would think that it's actually a life changing experience! Absolute lunacy.

That said, I haven't seen or read anything about this game which makes me think it's a must-buy, and I buy lots of games.

So, give me a reason to buy this game (besides great graphics) otherwise I'll probably rent it for a w/e to check it out.

Sweet, only 2 posts until I hit 100... what will I get?

What I cannot understand is how anybody can get so worked up over a video game score. To quote Royal Tenenbaum: 'It's only one man's opinion'. I mean really, will a written appraisal of a video game in anyway, shape or form diminish or enhance your enjoyment of said game? The only reason I could fathom that anyone would get bent out of shape by a game score would be those wanting to laud it over those who support the opposing format whom in turn want it to fail in order to do the same in reverse.

The sheer emotional energy, insane loyalty and time that some people invest in a game they haven't played yet, made by a company that wants your money that has been commissioned by a large corporate that has an agenda to market the shit out of said game to move more Wiistation360s so they in turn make more money never ceases to astound me.

I find it equally saddening and astounding that anyone would be masochistic enough to WANT a game to be shit purely because of blind brand loyalty.

Quick children! Burn the the heretic dissenter whom dared disagree with our preconceived notion that would cure the sick and lame as to rationalise our one eyed purchase of an injection molded piece of plastic with computer parts and hand held interface!

I don't get the controversy here.
7/10 is not a low score. ITS SEVEN OUT OF FUCKING 10.
And what if it got 2/10? If all these people are so vehemetly arguing that it should be a 10/10 zomg zomg this game cures cancer, why do they care if its given a numerical value? Its obvious they are ALREADY IN LOVE WITH THE FUCKING THING, so a low score should not detract from the enjoyment they get out of it.

Sorry for caps-rage and the generaly angry tone behind this, but thats just it; I'm pissed off at all the threads and stories on how this game should have had a higher score when everyone with half a brain should know that just because someone else liked / did not like something doesn't mean you wont.

Unless, of course, there's a niggling little doubt in the back of their heads that they're not enjoying it as much as they tell themselves they are, which won't go away no matter how many times they try to beat it down with the flannel of weak excuses.

Games like this tend to get 10's simply because they got da hookup...I think it's refreshing to see a company take them down a notch, while still telling it how it is...

Edge always seems to review games lower than most. I guess it's their own rating system though - Killzone 2's been getting a lot of 10/10s, yet it's far from perfect.
Like WhistleBlower in Zero Orginiality said:"GameInformer Magazine isnt even good enough to line my bird cage..."
Yeah that guy is a jaded hack given how I've had no troubles like the kind he's mentioned about Gamestop. Just throwing that out there.

Anyway I talked to one of my friends who's done freelance work for a game magazine I won't mention (no it's not Edge and it's not GI), and he's said that the Future Publishers Inc. magazines like Edge and PC Gamer tend to use a "7 is not bad" scale while Game Informer and others kind of do that.

The point being this 7/10 is not bad. But over the years our perception has been made to think of it that way, and people are getting way too bent out of shape over it

7/10 = B.

B = Good.

Is B a low mark to be given away nowadays? I wish I had some B's once in a while in maths.

Pah, this won't be affecting me as I:

1) Don't pay attention to reviews.
2) Don't own a PS3.
3) I'm sick of generic FPS's.
7/10 is a C where I'm from, which puts you at barely passing. Is it a fair number? Could be - so long as the entire number line is in use. Most 1 - 10 scores seem to come with a fair number of gimmie points. Is it remotely playable? 2 points! Did it come in a box? Another two points!

I tried the demo and was bored by it. It's just another generic shooter. Pretty, by any standards, but still just another shooter. Not so much a Halo killer as it is another Halo.
It plays nothing like Halo.

At all.

Ever.

Wat. It's a first person shooter and is therefore like Halo? I'm... confused.
Judging by your rage first, think later approach to matters, I'm hardly surprised.

Halo - Generic shooter hailed as the second coming of Jesus in some circles.
Killzone 2 - Generic shooter hailed as the second coming of Jesus in some circles.
I know that is your opinion...but... you do realise that the first Halo came along and revolutionised console FPS. So how can it be generic?

I think EDGE has the right idea to be honest. Halo 3 got given 10/10 and I think it deserves having a better score. The story line and everything in it was 100% original, multiplayer was fantastic, minus the gay minors and the graphics and soundtrack are top notch.

Killzone 2 looks fantastic, as the first one did for the Ps2 but it just didnt seem to have the oomph

Ask around then, you'll have more than enough people to tell you that Gamestop fucked them over, you lucky piece of "smooth."

P.S. If I told you what smoof was, I'd spontaneously die, like I ragdoll in a GMOD video.
I have asked around. None of my friends have had problems. Maybe it is luck. The point being it doesn't bother me at all for people on both sides of the equation to be incapable of handling business.

In a 100% system a 70 is a D. (By American standards.)
