Really, most people here are centralists or libertarians, but they just don't know it. They identify themselves with a party for one or two reasons.

But I can't really tell why they vote for a liberal one year, and the next election they'll vote for a conservative, then a liberal, then a conservative. I guess everyone here has really bad memories.

The USA is very conservative, that should be rather clear.

The people are slightly to the right, the government is naturally left. Ask the people whether they want more or less government intervention in their lives, and usually you will get a less response.
Actually, polls show that 50something% of Americans support the Health Care Bill.
None that weren't passed down straight from the White House. The vast majority of polls would suggest upwards of 65-70% against.
Source?
Because I've quite sure only fox news is giving out those numbers, and those numbers were wrong.

Yes, unfortunately. Most Americans really don't care what their government is doing as long as they don't pay additional taxes, so nothing really changes unless it's hurting a lot of people in the bank account. It's sad but true.

WHAT? You're joking, right?

Who were the people screaming "We want change!" all over the media? Who are the people who never shut up about how articulate and perfect Obama is? Conservatives? Please. The conservatives are far more quiet with the exception of the Tea Party.
Screaming? They chanted it an Obama rally, yeah. I don't recall them having pictures of McCain as Hitler, Joker, or some tribal African. The conservatives talked about how great he was as speaking more than anyone, mainly in the vain of the celebrity commercial, or Palin poking fun at his teleprompter. Or people in McCain rallies yelling that Obama's a terrorist, or calling him an Arab, or yelling that he's not a citizen. Conservatives under the Obama administration have been louder than Liberals have ever been.
On CNN and MSNBC, all I ever heard in election period was about how great Obama is. I STILL hear that even after his approval ratings have fallen, if less so.

Oh really? Liberals were just as loud during the Bush era than conservatives are now. How about General Betray Us? How about the countless photos that have Bush as the devil and in numerous other things? I'm sure there is at least one picture comparing Bush to Hitler. I just found a few looking up Bush Hitler in Google Images. I also found comparisons of Bush to terrorists, Stalin, etc. Liberals were as loud, if not louder during the Bush era than they are now.

I don't think you can really answer that question.

One minute it's totally conservative, another it's liberal as hell.

I enjoy the middle ground.

There has been primarily more Republican Presidents than Democratic Presidents. Even in the 1960's, the US has been primarily conservative, despite the very VOCAL liberal members. In the 2000 and 2004 elections, despite the pro liberal media blitz, Bush was elected. Is America a primarily conservative or liberal country? I think it's primarily conservative personally.
There are more registered democrats than republicans, and there is a liberal president... so the answer would be no.

Depends on who you ask.

I think the majority of people are independent myself. I mean, you have to pick one and it it happens to be a conservative more than a liberal it just says one side fielded a better candidate.

America, as a whole, is mostly a 'middle of the road', though I can see why you would get an conservative impression, especially of late. Most Liberals and Democrats are not near as vocal as the majority of the Conservative Republicans, and especially not as vocal as the Tea-bagger Party movement. The reason why the Conservatives generally get the more vocal outlook is because Fox News, and other people like Rush Limbaugh and Glen Beck rile them up as the angry, screaming mob.

I gotta say I predict a conservative swing come November. Right now the democrats own the house, senate and the presidency. It just goes to show too much power to one side or another just pisses everyone off.

Primarily Liberal to a massive extent. Regardless of what hats have been worn by politicians our culture has been more or less defined by Liberal beliefs since the 1960s. This goes into the media, what records we choose to keep, how we currently write history, and self-criticism of the US. Liberals like to present themselves as being some kind of a counter culture fighting against a massive, repressing society, but really that hasn't been true since the 60s. Truthfully the last hurrah for uber-coservatism is arguably Mcarthy who in the end wound up getting shot down and is remembered as a negative influance.

In a general sense the country is deadlocked numerically, it's split about 50-50 between Republicans and Democrats, Conservatives and Liberals. However liberals currently control the media, and policy and culture are dictated liberally with things like prohibations on hate speech/political correctness, censorship backed in such, and the way we conduct diplomacy as well as fight wars.

Such are my thoughts.

How do you figure?
Are you serious? Mainstream media isn't allowed to say words like "hell", it's considered taboo to mutter anything remotely blasphemous. People seem to uniformly vote for low tax, protest health care and generally don't believe in public schools. Compared to the rest of the western world they have (in general, some states are more left wing and closer to the rest of the western world) little to no public infrastructure.

The general belief seems to be that things should be done privately and not by the g'ment. The whole "cut taxes at all costs" mentality reflects this, I mean, even the roads are more poorly maintained than most of the western world (they seem to be in as poor condition as Australian roads, and that's truly bad), I could go on about the lack of consumer protection but I feel I've made my point. I will say, however, that even the president has to sign in under the Christian god, how can that be construed as anything other than extreme conservatism? (that's right, I made an 'ism' out of the word conservative, you're all screwed now mwahahahahahahahahahaha!).

Going by the standards set by the rest of the world, your democrat party are hardly an example of "liberal" politicians.

2 years ago when the liberals were pissing and moaning the left was talking about how wonderful it was for those people to be expressing their opinions. Even Bush said that it was democracy in action. Now when the conservatives move out its a mob.

funny how the tide can turn isn't it?

And don't you dare fucking tell me the media isn't conservative, I live in the fucking Midwest. All I hear all the goddamned day is people spouting out the word "******" like it's their lifeblood. All the media outlets in the Midwest are either conservative, or they just constantly doubt and point out ridiculously FUCKING STUPID shit that the party in charge does. And by ridiculously stupid shit, I mean stupid shit to point out.
.
I live in the East Coast, and all I fucking hear is PRAISE OBAMA!, Those damn Republicans are getting in the way of Fearless Leader!, or...something about those people from Jersey Shore.

Why don't you two just trade places!

The liberals like to think they are the majority and act like they are the oppressed masses. The Conseratives like to think they are the majority and act like they are the oppressed masses. I think they both are consisted of by blind, moronic tools. However in america's defense, Europe is so liberally scewed that they represent any non-liberal government as a crazed fanatical state, and their media is very biased. More so than most of america's.

Funny how it's the same party lying to the masses, only this time, they don't control the house, senate, and oval office. 2 Years ago, everyone who wasn't under the Republican banner was crying out against them because of: Rising unemployment, rising gas prices, rising for-closure rates, falling value of the dollar, and a failing global image, stacked on top of a war that nobody called for once the truth came out. The only reason it kept happening was because of the controlling party in office. Now that the Right is out of office, they now continue resorting to fear tactics, slandering, and all-out lying to the masses, of which only the ones who can't tell the difference between Socialism and Communism end up believing.
