Basically is it a good game? It looks decent but I don't know anyone who has it for reference and i never trust game reviews. The only other rpg's I've ever played were KoTOR and Fallout 3 and i enjoyed the mechanic of the game.

If not does anyone know a good game that takes up quite a bit of time? I have bout a month for break and I just finished up all the games in my current collection. I'm looking for a game thats just more then a run n' gun.

EDIT:
thanks for all the advice i went ahead and bought the game. It took forever to download but its all said and done and im a few hours into it. so far i am highly enjoying it.

It's alright.
The main thing is there aren't any modern alternatives if you want a real-time-with-pause game that gives you a full party to play with.
The closest thing is BG2, a 10 yr old game.

It's an absolutely fantastic game. I've just finished it for a second time a month or so ago and it was just as great as the first time I played it. Lots of choices, lots of interesting character development, the whole package of high quality you would usually expect from Bioware.

I haven't played it on consoles only on PC, and only played the original game. I'm strongly considering buying Awakening with it being on sale on Steam as part of their holiday sale(along with Origins itself). I did, however, hear that Awakening wasn't quite as good, anyone got opinion on that? Currently swaying in the direction of buying it.

Very good game. Sadly you've missed the steam sale today. The game of the year edition was offered for only 25 US $. That's the main game plus all of the expansion packs and bits and pieces that was released for it.

You might not even like these kind of games, but if you want to try one of these games, then this is a very good choice. I do recommend playing it on easy if you will play it on PC, because the default setting, normal, is pretty difficult. If you like DAO, then you're lucky, because the sequel, DA2, is looking like a very nicely improved DAO so far.

It's brilliant if you like that sort of game, but I've got a couple of friends who traded it in 'cos they're not that into rpg's.

Personally I'd say both the mass effect games are better, but that's just me.

There are Drakensang and NWN2.

U FOR SRS?

Dragon Age is a stupidly good game. Like insanely, ridiculously good.
Well, okay, it has its flaws. How much you'll enjoy it probably depends on what kind of games you like in the first place. Dragon Age is an RPG but - depending on the difficulty level - you can play it as a pausing tactical kinda thing or more of a hack'n'slash. It's got the story, it's got the world, it's got the interaction and dialogue and the choices you can make to effect the rest of the game. It's incredibly well-written. It will definitely suck you in... [sub]you know how appealing that sounds.[/sub]
It's also brilliant for eating up time. I'm about 70 hours in and I think I have at least 10 hours of gameplay left.

TLDR; What everyone else said. GET IT! :)

It's a kind of single player, MMO-lite gameplay wise. Add in the strong writing and characters that Bioware usually delivers and it is a very strong game.

A thousand times yes! This is one of my favorite games, however if you want to play it get it for the PC. The console version by comparison is utter crap.

It's a mixed bag. It's definitely not bad, but it's got a few hiccups. The pacing is terrible, the dungeons tend to drag on and the non-combat parts tend to come in way too big chunks. It's pretty well written, not the best Bioware has done, but then again Bioware plays in a completely different league to begin with. It's got a lot of similarities with KotoR, especially when it comes to combat, so if you enjoyed that there's a fair chance you'll like it.

Over all I'd recommend it, especially if you have plenty of time and want a lot of game for your money. The console port is like everyone has mentioned, less than perfect, but the PC version requires a pretty good rig, so be sure to check the requirements.

Oh, and as of posting, you still have 20 hours to get it on the Steam sale.

Excellent, excellent game. If you can get it for the PC, do. If you can't, get it anyway as it's still very good and more than playable. Be warned that it starts a little slowly but once it gets it's hooks into you, you won't want to put it down.
