I find that around 80% of music sounds "good", for the first 30 seconds or so, this falling to around 50% as the song goes on, because sometimes the song gets annoying. This applies to rap songs to indie to pop or whatever.

Wherever i like it is an entirely other matter. Firstly i ask myself does it sound good? If it does, then i ask myself how good the instrumentals and vocals are? Are they complex and interesting? Do they create the appropriate emotion? (Most music stumbles at this point) I then ask myself if the lyrics are good, are they meanigul and interesting? How well do they go with the song? What is the ultimate "point" about the song? How original or interesting is this song? (believe me, a LOT of music lacks any point at all)

If it passes this test, i like it. Sometimes if the instrumentals are really good but lyrical quality is lacking i will still like it, based on instrumental quality alone. However, a band which combines innovate and interesting lyrics with suitable instrumentals and vocals will always be superior.

I love it how many responses are "it's just a matter of taste." or "It's a matter of opinion."
I don't know if it's being too PC, but deep down inside we all know full well when someone is bad at music.

Now it's not a genre of music like rock, or metal, or rap. But the artists, trust me there is plenty of bad artists out there. Some who've gone on too many temper tantrums.

Yes.

Fixed it for you.

On topic, no. Good and bad -- when it comes to any medium of art -- are merely opinion. Regardless of how much you may hate the music, there will always be someone who likes it and thinks it's good. This is why I don't read many album reviews, as they can often merely come down to someone's personal opinion and just because someone likes it doesn't mean I will.

Yes, there is bad music. I dislike plenty of music, but I can still appreciate the musicians skills even if I don't enjoy their music.

There is no such thing as 'good' or 'bad' music unless you count popular opinion as a factor. 'Good' and 'bad' are just opinions. Hell even the word music is an opinion because any sound could be music to someone's ears. I personally think that the constant hum of this computer is music to me.

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes, there is such a thing as bad music. It's just that some people are too stupid to realise how bad it is...

And then there are idiots who mash up few sounds, loop them, make a girl say a sentence and loop it too. Then people claim it's not only music, but also talnet.

It makes me vomit in terror.

Its just music you don't like. I for example hate metal and scream-o, but I like pop, rap, and techno.

Its not that its bad, its just that you don't like it.
I'm sorry to hear that.

Pop, rap AND techno? Are you still pre-High School?

Most of what people label as "bad music" isn't actually bad music-- rather it's just music that they don't like.

That being said, there still is legitimately bad music that no one could possibly like. For example, if I recorded the sound of someone having diarrhea and mixed it over a drum beat that was out of sync, I'm pretty sure no one would like it. While some elitist assholes might be able to claim otherwise ("You just don't appreciate the statement the artist is making by recording projectile diarrhea" etc) generally, any work that has such a low production value and doesn't appeal to any single human emotion other than disgust can be written off as objectively bad.

I hate ALL music that is made by only a computer,(so no instruments.) So nearly all dance, techno, etc. It pisses me off so much when you hear a drum machine going at super-speeds, playing really complicated stuff. It makes a lot of people think that it's simple to play and if you can't you're obviously terrible.

This is the only Drum and bass I'd ever listen to..

It depends.

I suppose you could get "technically" bad music. Overall though I think no, as music is one of the things that is most based on personal opinion.

What kind of bloddy question is this? No, its all a matter of opinion, which some people have yet to grasp, there will always be someone to like this and that song, and as long as that person is present, it will not be a fact. Now don't start with some argument of "hitler was bad but some people think he was right". This is music we're talking about, its a thing of taste.
