The reason that Xbox Live is so good and has so many features is because they can afford to do those things with money gained from subscriptions. If they had no subscription money it would be bad and buggy. And come, its $50 a year, thats roughly 15 cents a day. Hardly a huge investment.

dunno if u guys get SentUAMessage on InsideXbox but they said last week that no, live will never be free because it costs so much to maintain the servers
Aceybongo's and Mr Pointyhead.

My heroes. Loved the most recent episode "When is CoD5 coming out"

Then Pointyhead starts wrecking shit about the room, because of 3 previous episodes saying stop asking us about Call of Duty. Lawl
I always get the impression those two are a pair of douchebags, their jokes are just so painful

Xbox Live Silver version is free, but that just makes it so you can add friends, send messages, and buy stuff.
Gold is cheap though, I think it's 60 dollars or so for a year of gaming, which isn't half bad, all things considered.
$50 in the US

Truth: There are two 'levels' of live: if you have internet acess and an account you can basically acess the shops. for about 60$ a year, you also get multiplayer games online, and probably whatever perks that entails(achievments, collectibles in games, etc).

If you were selling bottles of water for three dollars and people were buying them, would you start giving them away for free?

I can say as a person who does a lot around MSFT I can say that no, it will not be going free!!! It costs too much money to host and maintain for them to have it free of over 17 million people.

No xbox live will never be free, but it is not the say that it is unreasonable.

I pay less than $3 bucks a month for live because they give you a discount if you have been with them for a long time. I was with them since the beginning and I have never had problems. I play with my friends almost every day and it is fun. It more than makes up for the price. PLus the functionality of XBL and such is good. I had a lot of problems with the PSN network and even thought it is free....it is not really that good compared to live. I am sorry if some of you disagree, but we all have our own opinions.

I pay $36 bucks for 13 months. Yes 13 months because when I buy a year subscription they give me a month for free. Anyone who doesn't agree that this is a good price, I will just use the PS3 fanboy excuse: "Good things cost good money."

HOWEVER, there is some games that you can play for free online with a silver account which is free. Mind this is only 5 games out of all of them, but hey they are free.

Also, someone mentioned WoW and such. Yeah think about this. You have to pay 15 a month to play that game...just one game. I pay $5 on XBL and play any amount of games on live plus I can have some free downloads for some games, plus free demos when they come out, plus other things.

60 dollars is bad, considering the fact that for nothing, you can get a service from another company (I'm referring to Sony's PSN) Which is just as good as XBL
