I fucking hated Twilight Princess when it came to the wolf song things, why couldnt they just leave it as simple buttons instead of going up and down and all around

I Do sometimes feel Nintendo doesn't quite know what to do with the Zelda franchise next and to be fair I for one am getting sick of saving Zelda's incompetent ass xD maybe someone should teach her Kung-Fu or something.

But although Ive not played them First hand I can see some of all this pure cash cowing like say Mario Party, There was no need for that many per console after Mario Party 3 there was no real need for one and yea why cant they for the Wii now just roll all of the Mario Party Mini Games and Boards all into 1 HUGE Mario Party game and be done with it? Now that would be great to see!
Why's it even called Legend of Zelda? She doesn't do jack shit!! Let's make a petition for Nintendo to name it Legend of Link, cause thats the only Legend in those games

technically the game isn't going downhill because it hasn't changed. More like perhaps people are becoming less entertained by zelda. Well at least reviewers which doesn't surprise me. reviewers hate remakes unless there really good games or popular first person shooters and god of war.

In Fact, it has surpassed OoT...FOUR TIMES

Four Swords Adventures
Wind Waker
Twilight Princess
Majora's Mask
Okay, i'll give you then benefit of the doubt, as i've never played any Zeldas outside the n64.

But Majora's Mask better then Ocarina?!

WEll it is hard to top OoT when it comes to Link and I do feel the series after is weaker, but still Twilight princess was a massive step in the right direction, I just hope the Zelda series isn't going to get Sequel Sickness, like al of Nintendo's main characters games...

I've liked the latest ones fairly well. Not as much as the original ones, sure, but still great games nontheless.

Going downhill? It's already gone downhill. Phantom Hourglass was just plain awful. Linear dungeons, boring overworld, awful controls (not so much hard to control as it was "why couldn't they design this so my hand isn't blocking half the screen at all times?"), and of course, that disgusting Phantom Temple you had to keep trekking through every time you completed a normal dungeon. Overall, that game disgusts me.

And since Spirit Tracks looked to be the same thing (replace boat with train though), I completely skipped it altogether. So, of course, I can't really comment on that, but I'm not rushing out to buy a copy anytime soon.

Hopefully we can get a decent portable Zelda for the 3DS though, as it's too late to get one for the DS now.

zelda'll never go downhill.
my favorite's a link to the past, and a remake with the OoT engine would be zelda perfection (at least in my jaded fantasy :D)
come to think of it, how many Nintendo icons went downhill?

I loved Spirit Tracks because it fixed a lot of the things that went horribly wrong in Phantom Hourglass. There is a Temple of the Sea God-like area, but it is ten times less annoying. It also adds much needed a cinematic quality and gives appropriate attention to storytelling. I feel sorry who can't get over riding on a train (much like I feel sorry for those who can't get over toon Link and missed at least two fantastic games).

In Phantom Hourglass's credit, it was having to pull off the radical new control scheme, so it had to give even veteran players somewhat of a learning curve. And personally I think it pulled off the new controls quite well. The main disappointment for mewas how little you actually got to customize your boat, because parts are so hard to come across - that's fixed in Spirit Tracks too.

Link to the Past was by far my favorite in the franchise, Twilight Princess was my favorite of the 3D games. I haven't played the DS games yet so I can't really comment on all the newest games, but I'd say they're not going downhill at all. Quite the contrary actually, with Zelda 2 being the weakest in the proper series for me. Zelda is still the only franchise that can convince me to buy a console for a single game. Picked up a Gamecube specifically for Wind Waker and stood out all night for a Wii preorder because of Twilight Princess. I'd really love a new 2D outing for the franchise though... Where's my Four Swords DS!

Also have a preorder for 3D Dot Game Heroes and can't wait for some Zelda 1 like action! Who's with me?

I've never understood why so many people say the Zelda series needs to change, to me it'd be like the Halo series being something other than an FPS (never played wars, I suck at RTS's).

To me, I don't think they've changed the formula much because no matter what, it still manages to be an enjoyable experience. I compare the series to good beer: They're all going to give you a good time, but you get to enjoy different flavors of the same thing while you're smiling.

And if anyone cares, Spirit Tracks is all the good things Phantom Hourglass was but without all the annoying crap.

Common sense from reviewers? Guess I shouldn't ask for miracles though, so hey-ho.
I'm with you. Zelda has done precisely squat with the formula the first game developed, and that came out over 20 years ago. The only difference between the original and the most recent ones is graphical upgrades and a couple in game gadgets for Link to use. Otherwise it's the same story and the same progression every time.

Hmm. Legend of Zelda; Twilight Princess was the Zelda game I have been waiting for since The Adventures of Link. :) I really enjoyed the maturity of it! It had plenty of it's usual humor, but it really had that dark aura that some of the more classic versions let on to. I have not played any of the LoZ games since, but I felt the previous Zelda games pale in comparison to Twilight Princess. It set a new bar. :) I imagine that bar is hard to reach for future itterations. :)

Zelda has never been my cup of tea and the fact that what keeps getting made appears to be the same game over and over again with very little changes sure aren't helping.

I didn't even like Ocarina of Time that much.....

I thought it was going downhill when windwaker came out.

Turns out I was wrong though. I really enjoyed that one, everything after didn't really feel so special.

Just ignore them, they're haters who have ignored the many differences in all the Zelda games and haven't noticed that their favourite games are very similar to other games as well.

Zelda was the first to have the temple structure and that's how we like it and how we'll remember it. :D

It's a bit hit and miss, really. I've played almost every Zelda out there, and some have managed to irritate me beyond the point of self mutilation (CURSE YOU ORACLE OF AGEESSSSSSSS), whilst other have managed to make me truly engaged and happy for DAYS.

Installments like Wind Waker (which was EXCELLENT. There is no LoZ standard that game doesn't live up to, and push forward even more. Besides, it has one of the coolest sword fighting systems in the series (Ninjas vs Pirates, anyone?)), or Twilight Princess (which I started replaying IMMEDIATELY after finishing it. And then replayed it a third time to achieve 100%) have not only been crucial cornerstones in the series, but also grand games in their own right, and reference points for new gamers.

In short, my belief is that the makers of the series need to start developing more instalments like that, taking the still groundbreakingly succesful formula of OoT, and taking it a step forward every time. I hate to quote Yahtzee here, but it's necessary: make every sequel expand on the premise of the original. And to be fair, the developers do this very well.

TL;DR: GOD THOSE GAMES ARE SO EPIC (Most times)
