The new xbox will require a fee for you to play pre-owned games...

I just wanna point out that this happened:

And as for blocking used games? And really, their entire reveal? Sony's won this generation, hands fucking down.

Isn't it a bit fishy that the new of EA partnering with Microsoft is in such close proximity to this news? I smell a conspiracy.

Holy shit. Personally, being a PC gamer, I wouldn't care too much if used games went away, but dammit, locking your games to an individual Xbox Live account is bad. Plus, it implies that you'll require an internet connection to play games, or at least to install them. Console gamers, I welcome you to the wonderful world of DRM.

This is hilarious and amazing. Stock prices usually go down after a major reveal (it happened to Apple with the iPad for crying out loud), but Sony's stock going up? If that's not an indication that Microsoft's conference was bad, I don't know what is.

Depends how this works.

Im 99% sure it works like, you have your disc and for anyone else to play it AT ALL costs money. Thats bullshit.

HOWEVER. The article is a liiiiittle vague. So correct me if im wrong but it MIGHT work as in you only need to pay to play WITHOUT the disc if its already installed, so it functions like each disc gets 1 install which allows for non disc play but infinite people can play it with the disc in the tray. Thats kinda reasonable i guess since you could get 2 copies for one in effect. Install then give the disc to your mate for infinite free play as long as he owns the disc.

IF it works the more generous way this is a really good thing and microsoft were idiots for not highlighting this use. You could also pitch in with some friends and ALL purchase a game and ALL install it, each paying a fraction of the price depending on the cost of unlocking the second hang disc.

IF it functions like that they can turn this around. But i doubt it. I think it costs just to PLAY second hand WITH disc. If it does turn out to be the way i expect fuck that shit.

No it hasn't. Wired speculated that it'll block reusing discs in order to enable play from the hard drive, MS has not in any way confirmed this, except to say that it will be possible to play without inserting the disc.

Well, I think I should thank Microsoft for making my next-gen console purchasing decision much, much easier. With only the Playstation 4 and WiiU to think about, the debate for system I should get has just been moved into which system I should get first (I always get two each generation), which will largely be based on what Nintendo's release schedule is for first-party titles on WiiU. Still, something tells me I should be thinking about how soon I want a PS4.

there isn't enough info for me to say fuck them outright right now. i know i may be trying to grab a burning rope but i don't like to condemn companies without having everything 100% confirmed by said company

EA dropped their Online Pass system, and now it turns out that the new Xbox is going to charge for used games as standard.

I fucking knew something like this was in the works.
Not to mention the unprecedented partnership EA has with wii U.

It is funny that more is coming out now that the conference is over than when it was actually going on. Either way I am not touching the xbox 1 with a ten foot pole.

Quote from the article:

"Microsoft did say that if a disc was used with a second account, that owner would be given the option to pay a fee and install the game from the disc, which would then mean that the new account would also own the game and could play it without the disc."

Microsoft did not disclose what the second-user fee would amount too, and did not clarify further on the matter.

Except the article is full of shit. They didn't actually ask MS, they went off the Wired article, which says no such thing.

Good thing I was planning to switch to PC anyway.

The more I hear about the new Xbox, the less I want it. I wouldn't be averse to buying a PS4, but I might as well just get a PC. It won't even be that much more expensive and there are a lot more upsides to a PC than what I've seen out of these new consoles.
