I try to lampoon all faiths equally but it just seems easier for me personally to mock Christianity because it is the religion I am most exposed to and know the most about. It would be much better if religions stopped taking themselves so seriously and could actually take a joke.

Only if its the Westborough Bapist Church. There morons.
And these people deserve to be burned not mocked. Religious extremists who manipulate text and thereby others to achieve the ends they wish, especially when it is not the originally intended meaning of said text, are among the lowest of the low.

Oh really, what I said is true. From a certain point of view. And, since when was light hearted proding punishable by ... probation?

Zombie jesus statement: He died and came back "to life". That... pretty much makes you a zombie.

Second statement: According to the times that the new testament supposedly occured in... Yes. Mary would be twelve or thirteen~ at the time of Jesus'... Erm. Conception. So technically, it's true.

I await my full and complete apology.

All groups of people receive this treatment at some point in time. Christianity happens to be getting it the more and more people sway from the mindset. I could not honestly see some sort of holocaust coming, though.

The problem with mocking religion is that people will go out of their way to make you feel like shit for doing so, because it's based on faith and therefor, cannot be refuted through anything. You see a lot of support depending on the demographic of people around you. Pull that shit around older people in real life and you'd probably get a lot of angry looks.
It's still controversial to do so, and almost even hard ground to tread on for comedians, who seem to be the only ones to get away when they crack jokes about those subjects.

For my two cents, I think it's okay to mock Christians. But only if everything else could also be mocked in good humour.[/quote]

Yea if everyone is mockable then it is okay

A holocaust for Christians? Are you kidding me? You seem to have forgotten that Christianity is the largest religion worldwide. It seems more likely that the Christians would be doing the pursecution than the dicks that are going around mocking them because they feel that Baptists are pretty much equal to the spanish inquisition. I can take a joke but when these people equate any Christian with the nuts that ran around swinging swords and claiming it in the name of God 500 years ago thats like calling me a racist because my great great grandpappy MIGHT have owned slaves which he didn't because he was probably a poor ass potato farmer back in the old country.

Edit:And I do think it's ok to mock Christians as long as its done with good intentions and I get to mock other religions.

I think the world would be truly tolerant if everyone was able to make fun of everyone else.
As long as everyone is able to take a joke.
Which in the case of Human condition, not everyone is going to be that light-hearted all the time.
There is always going to be someone who will be provoked, "misconstruing" the joke into an insult, and Bigotry re-rises.

According to Jesus himself, Christians are in fact expected to be mocked and not *****. Matt 10:22 (NRSV) reads "And you will be hated by all because of my name. But the one who endures to the end will be saved" Jesus said it, so if you intend to mooch off his good name, count on insults and don't say a word in return. It's the Christian thing to do.

You won't be getting it. What you said was in poor taste and was flammatory. (not a word but in the case yes, it makes sense.) You won't be getting one, you know you shouldn't have posted it.
In bad taste and flammatory? Hardly. I only wish I could quote myself, in order to post it again. I don't see why this one person got all riled up over it.

Christians demand religious respect and tolerance. I expect the same privilige.

Lies. It says he who endures, not he who lies down and takes it like a cringing dog. Don't stretch an interpretation that far. Christianity actually rejects the idea of being subservient to anyone but God. And I refuse to bow down and lick the boots of someone who insists on insulting God. I may not destroy him, but I will not be stoned for my beliefs.

That is the Christian thing to do.

My problem with Christian-mockers is how so very few of them actually are trying to be amusing. More often than not, their "jokes" are tempered with assholery. And you never hear a positive joke about Christianity.

Never say that there isn't such a thing as "positive" jokes.

*EDIT*

Word you're looking for is inflammatory, mate.

To be fair, you insulted Christianity's messiah. Nobody did anything to you.

I don't think it's OK to mock anyone for their faith or beliefs. That said there are some pretty crazy zealots out there representing all sorts of things and it can be very hard not to mock them, but that comes from being outside their box. Faith is a very personal thing and a lot of people mock Christians because they are the majority faith throughout the Western nations. A lot of people have at least one run in with someone who tries to push their faith on them or comes across as bat shit crazy and since the majority is Christian your more likely to run into a Christian.

It's equally fine to mock any religious or ethnic group. You have the right to free speech, make sure you use it.

All I needed to hear. Or read.

PS. I am always willing to be stoned, regardless of belief
I think you missed my point. I will not lie down and die for your giggles. I will fight. I will not harm you physically, I will not insult you. I will ask you to stop; that's the Christian way.

I recommend that you don't make comments like that. It's rather insulting.

P.S. You say that now. When actually in the situation, 90% of people would NOT. That's why we have so few martyrs.
