I call it the "Piracy Clocktower Tax".

Lets pretend we know person A. Person A has a shitty job, and it worries him about job security, and he's "trying" as normal people do to better himself. Not always the sharpest tack with all the luck. Person A deals with many people a day, handling money, dealing with shitty people, dealing with annoying things, hell, he might have a really important job that needs to keep his focus.

Person A goes home, and he pirates porn, music, movies, and games. Why? Because when he's doing his shit job, waiting on the bus, listening to stupid people, etc, he needs his music to keep him company, the games and movies to make him laugh, and the porn to satisfy his lust affairs. He can't afford these things.

What would happen if Person A couldn't have any of this? He'd climb a clocktower with a brand new sniper rifle and take aim...

In all seriousness though. I've thought many a time what would happen if we didn't just donate a little of what we create to keep the world happy. I'm not sure I've seen enough evidence that piracy has killed anything. People pay for and support what they like. Some just choose not to for whatever reason.

The porn industry... go under...? Because of piracy? LOL whatever.

Thank God I don't know any of them.

Unfortunately porn is a very disposable medium after you've seen a movie once or twice you lose interest in it and want to see something else and if every time you pay the very expensive prices (most seem to cost at least 25 euros a dvd and a lot are up to 50 euros for one disc of something you might only watch a few times and might not even like)you'd be broke real soon.

If you factor in the generally low production costs you'd see that they were making incredible profits for decades

Yeah, they want prices of a normal movie (that costs at least 5-10 million dollars) for what... 6 or 7 hours of "work" per DVD and about $2000 in expenses? Yeaaah.

100 people buy it for $25 each, you're making a profit.

DVD porn movies are a thing of the past. Why do performers in the adult entertainment business refuse to understand that the only way to gain profit by continuing to do what they're doing is by posting their videos on the internet free of charge with a few dozen adds showing up on the page with their profits coming exclusively from those adds and some sort of "special" subscription fee process giving people access to full length videos?
