Um, so this will be just like xbox live?

I don't play/like most custom content, so I don't care.

Anyway, I was never going to order MW2, but I can see why a lot of PC gamers don't like this, specifically because I've played FPSes on my PC for some time myself.

Dedicated servers and modding compatibility gives a whole new world of replayability to these kind of games. It also makes a community where people band together in map and mod projects. And it gives the possibility for clans/forum groups to hang out together if they so wish, with their own rules in their own server. Without dedicated servers, this will not be possible, and the game will probably, in my opinion, get stale very fast.

To all the console users that are gloating. Why do you gloat about the fact that PC users now have to put up with what you have had to? That's just admitting that you felt the PC system was better all along.

Also, I can see one of the reasons why IW did this was to "force" the PC players as well to buy map packs, but that might be the cynical part of me that's talking. Because they removed the ability for custom maps, this will be the only way to get new content.

Edit: Fixed some bad grammar.

this is a sad day for modding enthusiasts.
I truly hope that this possibly kills CoD's popularity among HC gamers, just because of what this represents.

Personally, I've got a huge problem with this.

Firstly, lemme give an short intro. I'm actually a console gamer, 360 to be exact. Hell, I played the first MW on the 360.

However, I planned to get MW2 for the PC. It just seemed more fun, due to the dedicated servers. One reason would be the almost non-existent lag. You see, I live in Asia. This means, if they go through with this dedicated server bullshit on the PC, I'm gonna be playing with Americans, which in other words, means Massive amounts of lag, which results in massive frags...for my opponent. So it's not exactly fair or fun isn't it? So much for playing with people of similar skill level.

Secondly, dedicated servers mean that there is a regular group of people going to it. Play on it enough, and you get to know the people who visit the server better, resulting in a better gaming experience. I say this from my experience from Team Fortress 2 on the PC. In which I thoroughly enjoyed playing with a group of regulars. It's just so different to play with different people every game, to the point that it's not fun "winning" because you cant really connect with people.

This smells of Kotick.
Thanks for reading.

They are trying to turn PC gaming into disposable console gaming, where the game runs out of steam a year after release and no one plays it again.
It's funny you say this, since I see over 100,000 people online in Call of Duty 4 every single night.

They're trying to gain a bit more control over their game. I'm not saying it's a good idea, but people crying like it's the end of the world is a bit ridiculous. This basically gives you the exact same version as the 2 consoles get. It's still the best (multiplayer) FPS coming out this year.

well I gues us consel gamers don't know how crappy we have it since.........well................that sounds just like the last 2 online systems to me, I guess PC gamers had it different?
Haha, thats what I was thinking. OH NO! Its exactly the same as all the other online FPS... wait a tic!

Then I realized it was on PC, so I no longer care.
like wise, now I shall go back to my crappy non chosen servers and paid DLC, it is such a travesty
Seeing as you're 14 and probably never owned a gaming PC I'll excuse your ignorance.

As for the OP, VAC instead of PB is fine by me since PB sucks, even paid DLC I can live with. But no player dedicated servers and fecking forced matchmaking is the deal breaker here.

Pre Order Cancelled.

Why should PC Gamers be stuck with this 360 like bollocks?

And yes, I am elitist, I paid far more for my bloody machine than any console gamer ever has, so they can go whistle.

Will be pirating for the Single Player to see if Price is back in it, and sticking to CoD4 for the Multiplayer.

And I thought Treyarch were the fail CoD Developer's.

People are not complaining about being forced to play against similar skilled players but about having to play according to IW's settings, for instance some servers may disable sniper rifles for people who don't like snipers, with matchmaking and with having no choice over servers and the ability to join dedicated servers this (and a lot more) won't be possible.

I think you're confusing mods and cheats... "Mods" is short for modifications. For instances, custom content like player-made maps and skins, or custom settings like "no grenades", "bigger player capacity" and such... Or even entirely new game modes, like someone did a version of "Zombie panic" for CoD4.
aah i see now, sorry/thanks, as a mainly console based gamer, whenever i hear mod, i picture some cheating greasey dude with a mod controller making a g3 fire at the rate of an mp5
sorry, yeah i can see that would be annoying :(

Seems odd that there is no Escapist story on this yet. I know it is console centric publication, but this is as big as the L4D2 boycott now. The petition has reached around 60,000 signatures and might be on the way to Star Craft 2 Lan petition numbers. Even gamesindustry.biz has reported it.

Oh no. You'll have to enjoy it like us console peons do. But how did I ever play L4D without being able to replace the painkiller bottle with Viagra? Or declare myself king of my own private domain that people probably won't come to when they realize how arbitrary and petty my rules are?

Suck it up. 360 owners didn't have personal servers or mods when they got Modern Warfare, or TF2, or L4D, or any game, for that matter. We're not about to boycott the game because it'll be exactly the same as it was otherwise, and it was damn fun before, and I have no reason to believe it'll be damn fun again.

I know the argument is that we here on the console camp have been getting the silver edition while you lot have been getting gold, but is it really worth freaking out that you're on par with us for once? Does a lack of mods or the power to own a server really make or break a game?

Piracy is their number one concern on this. They control the servers so unregistered copies will be refused.

That's essentially what most of the problems have been. YES, THE LACK OF MODS AND DEDICATED SERVERS BREAKS THE GAME FOR A LOT OF GAMERS!!!!! How many times do we have to shout it into your ears before you start getting it? I personally know of over 40 people who will not buy the game anymore. Why? Because none of us play the single play parts, and now we can't play the multiplayer parts that we actually like. We're stuck with the shitty portions of the multiplayer that none of us wants to play. We're signing the petition to let the developers know that if they do take those features out of the game, they're not going to get our 70 dollars. That's not really bitching, that's more like being good customers; giving feedback and letting IW have a chance to get our money.

And the "we're getting the same version now, so stop bitching" arguement is flawed at best. How about EA makes their games par by giving your X360 version of Madden 10 the same graphics and online capabilities of the Wii version? Or better yet, how about IW made MW3 for the all the consoles; the PS3 and X360 versions will be identical to the Wii version, with the crappy graphics, online capabilities, and lack of trophies. Are you willing to take that shit from them?

Why on Steam though? Modern Warfare is supposed to be so good why not use ActivisionBlizzard's own server hosting system, battle.net? Distribution of box sale is the only advantage I see to Steam in this case.

Take my Clan for example - We've got players that skill ranges from slightly above par to near damn god like.

We also got a dedi-box with some pretty packed servers with good community - That play on these servers cause of the rules/mods in place. Now with match making we won't be able to play with these people and play with our Clan mates at the same time if this was on MW2.

When we get grade A monkey bummers these regulars will tell them to obey or leave, if that fails all they gotta do is X-fire someone then we press a button and that person gets booted from the server, and everybody is happy. People have good pings and PB boots when needed (sure it sometimes has issues updating but easily solved).

Taking out dedicated servers and what not is putting a strangle hold over the potential MW2 PC community, not to mention server companies that ordered extra servers to cater for clans that want their MW1 W@W too still be running being screwed over by this last minute announcement.

My guess is that console command will be disabled so I will not be able to do the odd tweaks such as shrinking my objective markers or up-ing fps limits, changing FoV and so on. Which is one of the perks of being a PC gamer.

If I wanted a game I couldn't alter I would buy it for my consoles.

Competitive gaming on PC's is imo far greater than on consoles, I've done my fair share in both over the years, the flexibility of mods allows for better dynamics when setting up games/matches/configs.

It doesn't break the game it breaks the community.

Imma go hulk out of another shirt now.
