half life 2 level "we dont go there..."
im running and jumping from roof to roof. i see an open door and i run through it and imidetaely turn around and shut the door quick enough that none got in. i back into the corner to calm myself down. suddenly, one of the fast zombies bursts through this window in the roof, very startling. i imidiately shot it in the face and ran out the back door, turned off the game, and just sat there, not thinking, just sitting in a startled coma.

Headcrabs in Half Life....
The poison head crabs... the ones you know are there... and you slowly go round the corner looking for it and it jumps out of the dark corner you missed and starts screeching...
My stomach gets voided pretty much instantly :D

GTA. Running from the cops on a motorcycle, right? I figure another 20 feet, and I'll lose them. The exact second I'm at an intersection, a car comes out of nowhere. I hit it, go flying, lose the last of my health, and have to start the entire mission over. I believe my exact words were "YOU FUCKING MACHINE!!! I SWEAR TO FUCK I AM GOING TO GO GET A GUN AND SHOOT YOU IN THE FUCKING TOP, JUST SO THERE WILL BE AN OPENING I CAN RAPE YOU IN!!!"

My immediate response to anger is, in fact, rape, just in case you were wondering...

I was just wandering around in Borderlands at a low level when suddenly I heard screeching and saw enemies on my radar. I looked around and didn't see anything, but I still heard the screaming. So I did what I normally do in these situations and huddled up into a corner so my back wasn't exposed. Then all of a sudden a swarm of Rakk swooped down from above and tore me apart before I could even react. I was completely caught off guard.
This has happened to me so many times, only it's usually afer i clear out some other enemy type and think everything is safe BAM!!! and you're half dead...

That makes me jump, and so do surprise Radroach attacks for some strange reason. Fallout 3 makes me jump often.

The moment in Broken Steel when the deathclaw snarls and drops a body down in front of you nearly made me soil my favorite trousers...

Cliff racers in Morrowind. All the time, I'd just be running through the Ashlands and then suddenly, BAM, I get hit. Oh no, where is it?! Half health. Is it above me? Oh, there it is, damn it. One hit and it's dead, but SO ANNOYING (and frightening, if you're also fighting a mob of other beasts at the same time)

Multiplayer usually. I'll be waiting for a guy around the corner and his friend sprints out in front of me, scaring the shit out of me. I flinch, hit the knife button by accident, and get pwned.

How about deathclaws?
Try a deathclaw at level 2. That ended up being quite the scene.

The day before the release of Modern Warfare 2... playing the Call of Duty 4 multiplayer.... the map, it is pipeline... I raise the scope of my sniper rifle to my eye, and quickly fix myself onto my intended target...then suddenly *SLASH!!!* I WAS KNIFED. BY A LVL1 NOT EVEN IN PRESTIGE. WHY DID YOU START NOW?!!?!

I'm sorry, what was the question?
Dude that shit's pretty funny.

Back to the topic I was playing horde and the map was avalanche. We were up on the high ground and were just mowing down enemies, then I saw this one grunt run up to the side we had secured, stopped, and ran to other side we had neglected. Now granted I saw him, ran over and chain-sawed his ass BUT it's the fact that it realized "hey I'm going to get my ass shot up over here..... lets try the other side."

The Eternal Darkness bathroom scare. Anyone who's played it knows what I mean. Some might say it was cheap, but it the only jumpscare in the game and it was executed perfectly.

Left 4 Dead. No Mercy. Level 3 So I'm walking out of the sewer in front of Mercy Hospital and guess what I see flying my way? That's right, a fucking car that a Tank hit. So I get downed and the car falls on top of me. Basically, I have no way of getting back up and the bots can't get to me because of the car on top of me.

In Batman: Arkham Asylum, I had my detective vision on as I entered a room, to see if there were any thugs around. When I saw no glowy skeletons, I moved on, only to suddenly have one of those nutjobs drop out of the ceiling. Sure, they go down with one hit, but still...

I also managed to freak out a friend while playing L4D2. He was about to walk up to a Witch to shove his shotgun down her neck, when I decided to 'fuck that shit' and fired at her from a small distance. She jumped up, and for a second or 2 my buddy was standing face to face with a pissed-off Witch.

Last one: In Star Fox Adventures, I was fighting King Redeye or whatever-the-hell-his-name-is, the big T-Rex dude. I was standing by the trap I needed to activate, waiting for him to turn around the corner, when I suddenly hear him roaring right behind me.

I shut the game off and didn't play it for a week or two.

I was playing Half-Life 2 at my friend's house in the dark, on the first zombie level (cant remember what its called). Right after the part when the guy gives you the shotgun, I climbed up a ladder, scanned the area around me, turned around
AND THERE'S A ZOMBIE IN MY FACE.
Needless to say, I jumped a full foot off the couch and unloaded my entire clip of ammo on it, and spent the next few minutes mumbling gibberish, wondering how it got there so silently and without me noticing.

I was on a planet on Mass Effect, and I played it at a friends earlier, and was attacked by a worm in that game. I went to quite a few planets in the game, didn't spot any worms. I landed on a planet with an anomaly, I go there for fun, then say to myself, hey, isn't this where the giant worm pops up, and right after that, GIANT WORM! Needles to say, new change of underwear.

The ladder scare in F.E.A.R.

Holy shit.
Hahahahaha, the first time I played that, I didn't know the controls so instead of climbing down the ladder I just jumped straight down the ledge, then when I got to the bottom I heard the noise and was thinking "What's the big deal?"

Fallout 3 -
Turning round to see a ghoul reaver just about to slash me..I wet myself.
Try installing the mod that makes nights actually dark, as in, pitch black + the mod (FWE? MMM?) that includes Night Ghouls, which pretty much overrun the Wasteland after the sun goes down.

I also installed a night vision mod shortly after experiencing the combination for the first time...

Fallout 3 is full of these.
