We don't keep it in the refrigerator. For one, restaurants don't, and for two I hate putting cold stuff on my hot hamburgers...

I keep my ketchup in the fridge, and as far as I know back when my grandparents lived up north they kept their peanut butter in there too. From what they've told me, it was because if they put it in the cabinet during the winter, it'd freeze.
I recently moved my peanut butter into the refrigerator after a heatwave. I took it out of the cabin one time and it was all liquidy, not cool.

One weird thing is that our tenant puts his bread in the refrigerator. Worse yet, he put my bread in the refrigerator. He even went so far as to suggest that it wasn't him, even though he's the only person in the house who does such silliness.
That actually makes sense (in the summer) as the fridge would be cooler than the rest of the house, so mold would take a lot longer to develop.

I don't think it really needs to be refrigerated. I think ketchup manufacturers just put that on the bottle to make it seem less processed.

But does anyone need that much time to go through a loaf of bread? As it is, the biggest thing for keeping a loaf of bread is moisture. Too little and it'll stale, too much and you get mold.

My family has never put ketchup in the fridge. I would actually prefer it cold though.
And not on my eggs. That's where the Frank's Red Hot goes. :)

I thought that once you've opened something perishable, you should keep it in the fridge so as to delay its inevitable putrification.

When I was living in Japan it seemed a lot of people didn't bother refrigerating their mayonnaise either, which was particularly puzzling to me since I thought the stuff contains egg.

I keep ketchup and all my condiments in a fridge. To make them last. Wouldn't make sense to leave them out and let them spoil.

There are people who don't keep their ketchup in the fridge? Weird. I mean I keep extra in the pantry until the one in the fridge runs out but it just doesn't taste right non refrigerated.

Eww... wouldn't that make your chips soggy and cold? (Not that I eat tomato sauce anyway; I eat my chips as God intended: with salt and maybe a little vinegar).

I keep it in the fridge. I like it better cold. Don't see why it matters either way, though.

So my friend comes over earlier, and as I'm making us some sandwiches, he inquires as to where I keep my ketchup, to which I reply "In the fridge". Suddenly he flips the fuck out like it's some mortal sin to keep the ketchup in the fridge. This also isn't the first time one of my friends has asked me in a very complaining tone why I keep my ketchup in the fridge. It's very simple, I like my ketchup cold. In fact, I like a lot of my condiments cold. Ketchup, mustard, certain flavors of barbecue sauce, all in the fridge.

So, where do you keep your condiments, most specifically your ketchup, and why?
Ketchup will eventually go off, but it can take awhile. You just have to make sure that it's sealed properly, like everything else.

Oh, and Ketchup in the fridge tastes far better on chips then warm ketchup.

Ketchup goes bad if you don't keep it in the fridge, so I keep it there.
Ketchup doesn't need refrigeration to not go bad, but it can lose some flavour if left un-refrigerated and opening for a week or two.

OT: I don't refrigerate my unopened condiments, but I do refrigerate those that have been opened and won't be used within a few weeks. So I just leave the ketchup in the cupboard.
