My first reaction to this news was "A heart attack, eh? No doubt this happened 40 seconds after somebody found a death note... oh shit."

Homefront anyone?
Doubt it. The idea of South Korea uniting with North Korea without hesitation (as the plot of Homefront started) is absurd.

I was playing Fallout 3 when my mother told me the news. Jebus Christ, what now.
Well, when I saw the news video earlier today that talked about it, it said that along with the displays of mourning in the north, their were reunification demonstrations in the south.

So at least that part might come about, who knows.

I'm just waiting for like six months down the road when they announce that he's magically resurrected(come out of hiding\back from his wonderfully relaxing Disney cruise) and should now be worshiped like some sort of twisted Korean Jesus.

Seriously, looking at some of the shit his dad wrote about himself and some of the crazy ass shit that Kim Jong Il is supposed to have done in the past this would fit right in there somewhere.

"Meh" sums up my opinions here - I'm really only concerned for the safety of South Koreans - but even if it did come to war South Korea and allies would wipe the floor with the idiots.
No concern for all the poor bastards stuck in North Korea? They're probably in bigger trouble than the South Koreans.
Considering the fact that most North Koreans are in favour of their government and are brainwashed slaves - no. I think it's sad, especially because these people never really got the chance to live a nice life - but I have no real concern for them. They allow this man to be in power.
How many (relatively) objective sources can confirm this? I mean, obviously North Korea will insist that the citizenry love the country. If I were living under a dictator with clear mental instability, I'd probably act like I was a brainwashed slave too. Better that than eat a bullet.

There have been several impartial documentaries about North Korea that I have seen, one of which involved them infiltrating the country and filming a lot of things you aren't supposed to film.

And I wouldn't be so sure you'd just accept it. You might, but a lot of people wouldn't. If that happened in a country inhabited with people from the Western World - there would be a revolution and an uprising. These people have had the wool pulled so far over their eyes they don't even see the point in a revolution or anything. It's sad.

I don't keep track of Korea at all but I was surprised about North Korea's reaction to this. Seriously look it up on youtube if you haven't, it is insane the way the entire population is crying. Was this man a God or something? Would the entire population of the USA cry over Obama dying? Not really considering there are Republicans who wouldn't cry about him but I digress.

What the...? Where has this "talk the talk" bullshit come from? China hasnt threatened anyone, America is being more antagonistic than China is. And Chinas ties to N. Korea grow weaker by the day, reunification will happen and one more bogeyman for the American government will be put to bed.
Woah calm done buddy.

I'm talking about the numerous threats China has made to the USA and to South Korea during military drills in the peninsula. I'm saying they are empty threats and China wouldn't risk their ass trying to protect North Korea.
Why do people always say this? Calm down? I never gave any indication that I was not calm.

And are you talking about the Korean Peninsula that the U.S. wanted to take complete control of? Yes, I can see how thats Chinas fault(!) Or how America decided to do military drills in the disputed sea to the South of China? Yes, China and other surrounding nations did military drills there... but they actually have a stake in the dispute. America certainly does not so this act was pure antagonization on their part.

China is in dire need of Liberalization, but the same can be said for America. Both are being tools, America passes bills that harm China... China thratens tarrif wars and debt downgrades.

Within 2 minutes of the news breaking my friend had 'Sad day for best Korea' as a status on Facebook.

as for the news? well, we can only wait and see. I honestly have no idea what will happen politically now.

Mainly just because he wants you to get annoyed/angry/frustrated so he can claim the highground for himself. People say it a lot for no reason. It does get irritating. >.>

Holy Crap...
I just realized that I have that same jacket... well at least it looks similar enough...<.<

OT: such a tragedy... we won't be getting anymore of his batshit insane antics... you know like kidnapping Japanese citizens for the hell of it or digging a hole through a mountain to invade south korea only to claim it's a coal mine and paint it black... or constantly inviting Micheal Jordan to a game of basketball... you know stuff like that...

but on the bright side it might possible be the failing grace of the totalitarian government system... and you know no more death and self destruction of a country already suffering from economic downfall...<.<

To the N. Koreans (at least in the big cities because that is all they show to the outside world), Yes, he was a God. If you live in N. Korea, you MUST be a member of Kims cult of personality...or you get dropped in a ditch with a bullet in you neck. Now, while the entire population LOOKS like it is crying, I'll bet that people in the rural areas that are living like its 1699, are at least a little happy, but not showing for fear of the firing squad.

As for the US, I think EVERYONE should be at least upset if the president, current or former, dies. I mean, yah, I REALLY dont like Obamas politics, but he is still human and the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. Back when Reagen died, I probly would have been upset...if I hadnt been like 7 at the time and wondering "Whats going on? Why was this guy so important?"

Indeed, we should wait for someone to start killing us before we start discussing the matter.

No, no wait, that's a terrible idea.

OT:

If Mr. Kim Jong-Il's 'brainwashing' as I understand it is as effective as I've been lead to believe, his son will probably be hailed like Jesus. Considering the guy's been raised to consider himself above the concerns of other people, I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if he turns out to be just as cruel as his father.

Let's just hope he doesn't believe too much in his own power, and starts trying to blow holes in people he doesn't like.
Sorry I mispoke. When I said war I meant a revolution in North Korea that gets rid of Kim Jong Ils regime. Otherwise his successor takes charge and it's more or less business as usual for Korea. And just because I mentioned war that doesn't necessarily mean war with us.

I'm not going to argue over China and the USA. I said that China makes a lot of empty threats and would never back them up (fact - not opinion). China has threatened the USA and South Korea (fact - not opinion) and has told them to respect North Korea's sovereignty and their border (fact - not opinion) or else they claim will interveen militarily (fact - not opinion).

Which is not true at all. China would never do that, because it would start a war that would cripple their whole country. China's existence relies on trade, and if the EU and the USA started fighting them they would be kaput. They would not risk all of this over a country as weak and bizarre as North Korea.

I then went on to say that China's allegiance to North Korea would not last under the threat of war.

That's what I was saying. I never attacked China, I never praised the USA. I was just telling someone that although China and North Korea have an alliance, China would never fight a war for them.

There. If you want to argue with someone about China and the USA make it someone else. I don't care.

No, it's because he insiunated what I was saying was "bullshit" and used the word for no reason. People tend to only do that when they are annoyed or angry.

I'd appreciate it if you didn't put a motive in my head. Also, I'm not a male. Thanks.

There we go. For all the difference that makes.
And I agree with what he said, I'm confused about what you mean by all the threats China's saying. Fine, bullshit may be a little too strong, but it's useful for the situation he was in and shows a strong disagreement with what you said.
Saying 'Calm Down', '/sigh' and then 'Thanks' does not help your cause at all and doesn't help put a point across what so ever. It's just used to antagonize.

Well it's good that a tyrant, one of the last old world dictators has died, and I hope his son does do some good. (Although I highly doubt it somehow)

"I'm not going to argue over China and the USA." - So... you want me to ignore the rest of your comment? Like I said, any "threats" made by China were in response to damaging action by America and the sheer antagonizing size of their military. By leaving out these pieces of information you are being intellectually dishonest, it leaves the impression that China is to take all the blame in a thread not even about China!

Actually, it takes approximately 22,5 years for something bad or serious to become funny.
