Thoughts? Strikes me as a particularly lazy and callous dick move on Lady Gaga's part, especially as it's not illegal and Al pledged to donate to a good cause. But I can see, for that reason, why some would be unhappy about it - I wonder if we'll get any stronger reasoning from the Gaga camp soon.

EDIT: with thanks to @lacktheknack

Everyone loves record-company-interference-bullshit. Another "You're Pitiful" it seems. Or rather, more of a reverse "Amish Paradise".

EDIT II: EDIT HARDER with thanks to @lacktheknack and @Lucas113

Well...now we get to see the video he had planned. Good show, but I don't see why the record company took it into their own hands to make Lady Gaga's decisions. (Note the messages explicitly said "SHE needs to hear it")

I'm amazed he's taking it so well. He's seems, at worst, frustrated, which is a pretty underwhelming reaction to all the trouble she put him through. And he still doesn't even go ahead with it; just puts it on Youtube.

What a cool guy. I'd be flipping out.

Same thing happened with Coolio and Amish Paradise (or whatever Weird Al called it). I think he went on to release it anyway, thus ending the lamest feud in rap history.

But it show's you've made it a little if Al parodies you.

That was a jerk move. It's not like it woul've made less people buy her stuff and it's free advertising...sort of.

While I can understand Lady Gaga not wanting it made, it's a bit of a "dick move" to actually ask the song to be recorded first, I'd have thought just the lyrics should have been enough for her to know if she is okay with it or not.

How bizarre. Since it wasn't the lyrics that they had issues with, I guess that they were put off by him singing the song *to the same music she uses*? And it's not like it's a bad song either.

So either she has taken artistic elitism to new heights or she's just trolling. Who knows?

Actually, Coolio told the record company no, but the record company decided to be little bastards and told Al he said yes. Al says he still feels bad about the whole thing especially since the track is one of the most popular ones he's ever made.

Funny how Madonna never blocked Gaga from releasing the same song...

OT:

She has every right to block it. She wrote the melodies and they belong to her, if she doesn't want people making a buck off her stuff that's her right.

Vanity is my guess. It doesn't take a huge leap of the imagination to come to the conclusion that she's a little obsessed with her image.

Everyone knows you haven't made it til Al does a video on one of your songs.
It's considered an honour by most...

She didn't put him through trouble. He went through trouble on his own. And there's nothing actually stopping him from releasing it other than his own personal convictions. He should've been more prudent if he was going to be so sensitive to the whims of a busy 20-year old popstar. He should've said he needed a yes or no from the lyrics, or recorded a demo.

Wow. What a *****.

"Hey, can I parody one of your songs? It'a all in good taste, and the proceeds to go a good cause."
"I'll need to know what it's like first."
"Here's the lyrics."
"No, I want to HEAR it."
"Okay... well here's the recorded song. It took a lot of effort to make, so-"
"Nope."

Pretty much the story as far as I can tell.

Fun Fact: Due to Youtube, you can hear the song here! [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUxXKfQkswE]

And it's good!

EDIT: Well, the good news is, she's not a *****. The bad news is that she needs to fire her manager for being a massive ****, as well as very unprofessional.

Wow, what a ***** move for Gaga. Weird Al's done a good job at parodying lot's of good songs, my personal favorite being trapped in the Drive-Thru. But he's doing it for a good cause and she still acts all butthurt about it?

Oh you so silly celebrities.

And on that note.

You aren't famous until Weird Al parodies you. So she's kinda denying her own fame by doing this.
