LI sincerely doubt it was to raise awareness about the treatment of gays in the US army, because in that context, her suit makes no sense at all. Gays are allowed, so long as they don't tell anyone or let anyone know. So, if she was trying to raise awareness, she should have taped her mouth shut - which would be good, because her music is TERRIBLE.
And besides, in the next few years that law will be junked and gays can serve openly in the army. I don't see what's the harm - they clearly know that gays are in the army, due to the fact that they have a law aimed at gay people. The "don't ask, don't tell" policy is nothing more than putting your hands over your ears and pretending that they aren't there, which is just.... childish, and silly.
Maybe the army is worried that if gays act in the stereotypical fashion they are depicted in the US media, that will lead to a breakdown of regulations and behaviour. But they already have laws that govern how people are supposed to behave, so they can just stick with those laws.
Gay people exist, and pretending otherwise is stupid. I have never been attacked by a gay person, nor have I heard of anyone outside of a prison being attacked by a gay person. Somehow, I don't see how they are supposed to be a threat. They've existed since civilization began - how do I know this? Well, the Bible, which was written about 2000 years ago, mentions gay people. So you know for a fact that gay people existed at least 2000 years ago, possibly quite a bit further back than that, if stories of the Greeks are to be believed. They have existed for all that time, and they haven't destroyed society. I don't know why people are so scared of them, that they have to discriminate against them or try to cover them up.
But Lady Gaga - now she's a threat to society and music in general.
