On a serious note, I think all of this is really interesting. I think it comes down to where you're coming from musically, and where you're going. And I mean everyone.
When I grew up, grunge was 'in'. I never got it, I never dug the whole pretentious "we're not about image just the music even though we're all wearing the same flannel over the same long underwear, ripped jeans and greasy looking hair". It turned me off so much, that still to this day I hate any hint of that same view. Taking it all too seriously. I grew up and discovered early punk (before THAT started taking itself too seriously), X-ray Spex, Devo, Bowie, The Dolls, and for me, Gaga is a refreshing change of contemporary music.
Some people however have been turned off by the over the top nature of pop music at times. And to them, Gaga is a step in the wrong direction. But you see, it's all where we're coming from and where we're going to. Maaaan.
