I really don't know much about Lady Gaga. All I know is that her music sounds like shit, so I don't pay any attention to her. However my brother absolutely detests her. He knows a lot about the music industry, since music is his passion. According to him, Lady Gaga just wears these outrageous outfits for attention. She's not really insane, she doesn't believe any of the messages she is sending. She just does this to get attention without actually having talent.

Yes she's doing it for attention. No she's not crazy. She's a fucking performer. It's not even a dirty secret, she fully admits she's over the top for publicity's sake. Anything wrong with that? Not everyone wants to be a 'serious musician' type. She's in good company, as well. Look back at Bowie, the NY Dolls, the glam movement and the punk movement, all of that was just as much about a striking and controversial aesthetic as it was about the music (despite what the punk revisionists may have you believe).

I for one applaud her for bringing back some of these sensibilities to the mainstream music world, she's the first exciting thing I've seen in the spotlight in awhile. A long while.

The thing that pisses me most off about Gaga is her over the top antics because I have a friend who LOVES her and she is like Lady Gaga is being herself and showing people not to be afraid to be themselves. My response to the is BULLSHIT go look up on youtube and tell me she is being herself after seeing her BEFORE she was gaga at the NYU Talent show and on MTV's Boiling Points.

I agree, you're friends sort of missing the point if she believes Gaga is being herself. No, she's being Lady Gaga. This is performance art. She's created a character. Is this an aspect of who she is? Sure. But the Lady Gaga in the spotlight I'm sure isn't like the (whatever her real name is) out of the spotlight. Now is that a bad thing though?

I used to play in a punk band with my ex Alicia, on stage she would become a character she had essentially created. She was brash, confrontational, violent. It was part of the stage persona. These were parts of her, make no mistake. She could be all of these things. But she was also shy, pleasant and personable off the stage. To the point where people were amazed it was the same girl. Nothing wrong with flirting with different aspects of yourself, or creating characters for the sake of art.

I liked it for the sole reason that it pissed PETA off. In extension of this I myself am considering wearing meat suits whenever I venture into the creepy world that is the public, again simply for the reason of pissing PETA off.
