Most I ever faced at once had to be about 100 or so of King Richards knights in Assassin's Creed at a camp somewhere in the Kingdom (that's what the area in-between all the cities is called, right?). I think that fight went on for over 30 min.

60,000 enemy soldiers in a modded version of mount and blade (google it) I took them on on my own for the lols. (Btw mount and blade is realistic so you can only take about 3 or 4 propper hits before dieing). Oh and they were in a castle. I died obviously, does that still count?

The flash game Boxhead: more rooms on the hardest difficulty. Its scary how many enemies you can fit onto that small a screen at once.

In a console video game, Assassins creed reached ludicrous levels after I spent a good twenty minutes running around deliberately collecting guards to get the achievement for killing a large number of guards in one battle. That and the end battle. On an old-school note, anyone remember Gunstar Heroes hardest difficulty? Finally, some of the fights in Diablo can be down-right insane. I've been battling in rooms where 20+ dark wizards have been trying to kill me.

I made a custom config file for Left 4 Dead to approximate a "real" zombie invasion. The Infected couldn't run, but their health was amped up immensely. Then I raised the "common Mob" size to 300 and the "panic Mob" size to 500.

Honestly I can't really count since we're including single player games. In Defcon, since my enemy is more or less the world I've stood in opposition to the vast majority of life on the planet on more than one occasion. In Dead Rising the number was regularly in the hundreds, though generally only a few dozen were any real threat. In any of the total war games, I've sent armies against untold thousands of men. Most recently, a scant army of but 1300 stood against more than 4500 french soldiers in the lands outside paris. Oddly enough, thanks to the computer never thinking to bring much artillery, british guns and disciplined fire from the line troops proved a murderous combination and I lost less than 100 men but virtually annihilated the french force. In total, in all the video games I've ever played the total numbers of foes I've vanguished are so immense that specifics are irrelevent. If we ignore Defcon (which pushes the number into hundreds of billions) I've likely ended the lives of several hundred thousand virtual people - from a few hundred in Rainbow Six Vegas to hundreds of thousands in the total war series. In Cod4 alone I've killed more than 10,000 people online - and that doesn't count the hundreds (if not more) of meatheads you have dispatch to complete the campaign.

Well I remember being swamped by a horde of pimps in Saint's Row 2. Now I hate pimps so naturally I decided just to kill them all and so I just got in the middle of them and used my uber fighting skills to defeat them all one by one. But they never stopped coming so it got tiring because for every one that I killed another took his place. So eventually I just shot them all with my pair of revolvers. It must have been a glitch or something because there were just so many pimps swarming the place.

I want to say saints row 2 when I blasted 1 pimp near a strip club and more and more pimps kept coming so I tried to take them out with just my fists but eventually they pissed me off and I took out Ye Olde' Tombstone and took them OUT. But really the most I've ever faced at once must have been in Dynasty Warrior I counted how manyt there were for awhile but I soon stopped.
Yeah, that is crazy when that happens in Saints Row 2. There is video on youtube of that happening, and it is quite hilarious.

Also, I recommend watching some of this guy's walkthroughs, it reminds me of Unskippable in terms of commentary and some are very funny.

The most enemies at one time would be in Serious Sam when a couple hundred screaming enemies ran towards me, hoping to blow me up with bombs and other weapons.

Most? I found a L4D server where the hoards were 10x normal size... During the finale, it was a literal non-stop river of zombies until the tank came.

On the flipside of that coin, I often use hoard tactics in turn based strategy games. In one Civ 3 game I had a continuous stream of Warriors from my home town to an enemy city a good 40 turns away. Likewise, in the Master of Orion series I sometimes build absurd numbers of ships... In MOO3 in particular, in one game I had more that 40,000 ships (superdreadnought size or larger), even though the game has a limit of 180 ships in any combat. I also love hoard tactics in City of Heroes... the one 'summoner' class, the Mastermind, actually works fantastically well when you get enough of them together; 8-man all Mastermind teams are sickening effective, particularly since they outnumber almost any possible enemies.
