Had to come back to this, seriously being a "gamer" comes with it's own stereotype from the rest of the world and how others view us. Along with being a nerd etc etc and all the other socially attached stigmas

Why do we feel the need to alienate others within our own community because of their choice of gaming hardware? it fails to make sense... rather than ragging on someone take the time to hear them out and see what they have to say. If they are an evangelical retard about their piece of expensive tin then walk away *shrug*

The thing is that some people don't have the time and money to sink into a PC, and it isn't just the PC itself but all the other software that comes with it quickly makes teh damn thing very very expensive.
Yeah, and some people don't even have money to buy ANY system specifically for gaming, or the time to learn about the possible platforms and their libraries. So they just keep playing Angry Birds on their phone.

Then they are opening complaining threads on gaming forums, about how those jerk console gamers are all elitists for constantly calling Angry Birds a simple game, and only bragging about their sandbox games, and FPSes, and indie art games, and JRPGs all over the forum, as if they would be more serious games.

Oh, wait, do they?

I do not care how powerful your system is, I do not care how pretty your graphics are, I do not care about your PC exclusives and I do not care about your complaining about the inferior ports.
Apparently, you did care enough to post this rant, like many other console gamers in this thread.

Look, if you are going to complain about PC gamers shoving their platform down your throat, then at least have the decency of doing it somewhere where a PC gamer really does cross the line, and posts a rant about a PC game's quality at a place where it is clearly misplaced.

I don't doubt that such cases do happen. But a bunch of console gamers opening a thread on a general forum to discuss how much PC gamers suck, is much closer to YOU shoving down your opinion of console gamers on the community's throat.

Though in my experience, most claims of things being shoved down on our throats (homosexuality, ponies, memes,) are often fueled by a large quantity of people repeating the same minor act, (kissing in public, sporting a pony avatar, repeating a line), until the subject feels sick of it, even if no individual did anything excessive.

It's the same with platforms. We, as fans of specific games, often discuss which port was the best. As fans of genres, we discuss which platform is the most useful for that genre. As technology enthusiasts, we might discuss which platform has the most computing capacity. Sometimes, the answer will be "My PC".

There is no sinister conspiracy with an army of foreign elements trying to convert you, just a bunch of gamers discussing games and the platforms on which they are played.

So no, I won't stay up in my ivory tower. While there are some nice PC-oriented sites that I frequent, I also consider myself a gamer in general, and I'm interested in discussing gaming news and opinions. Occasionally, this might involve telling console gamers that they are wrong, that they are uninformed about an issue, or that they look at gaming from a too narrow angle. If you don't like talking to all types of gamers and discuss their stances, then YOU should stay up there in your ivory tower of ignorance, convincing yourself that no one else outside is worth talking to.

Fixed that for you. Seriously, the vast majority of people who own a console are...

Wait for it........

People who own a console.

And that's it. The only common theme is that we all own a console, not that we're racist, or homophobic, or stupid, or anything else.
Yeah, go ahead and keep thinking that. Take offense to the supportive words I sent toward the OP for dealing with negative comments that he shouldn't have to, I don't care. None of that is going to change the stereotype that Xbox users are a bunch of drunk, racist frat-boys looking to take down "dem terrorists". Just because you and the OP are exceptions doesn't break the rule.

It's a fact that consoles cater to the lowest common denominator, so trying to pretend otherwise is just disingenuous. I don't doubt you have some counter examples lined up, but unless you think you can name off roughly 1/3rd of the games market under the heading of that list, you're just going to be lying to yourself. "LCD" games can still be fun, but when that is all there is to play in the whole market, gamers who want more than that start to get edgy. Everyone else is happy just picking up their next copy of Call of Duty year after year like it's the Madden franchise. I didn't pull out my SNES this weekend because I needed a hefty dose of nostalgia, gameplay design may have been more brutal than most people have patience for, but it also was far more rewarding and enjoyable to play.
Phrase it how you like, the attitude demonstrated in your posts is exactly the, "Hurr durr console tards PC gaming master race," way of thinking that the OP was calling out.

I bolded stereotype in your post, because that's exactly what you're doing, stereotyping a group of people to fit your preconceived ideas. Unless you have some evidence that the majority of console gamers fit your description, you're being a textbook example of a PC elitist.
Well, I don't deny that, but since I took some more time to catch up with the conversations in this thread, I don't see how anyone can think any differently. There's all sorts of posts in here talking about from every standpoint why PCs are just better. If knowing that fact makes me an elitist, then I can not take it as an insult.

Also, what this guy said:
Consoles just cater to peoples` stupidity and laziness and can be used as a metaphor for everything wrong in the world.

Being aware that PCs have many advantages does not make you a PC elitist. Stereotyping people who use a console either instead of or in addition to a PC as, "a bunch of drunk, racist frat boys," however, does.

Well, at least I get to put idiots on the ignore list without getting into stupid pointless debates.

"I played it on the xbox"

"I played it on my Pc, because I prefer the Graphical settings and the mod-ability of some games"

"Stop being so elitist"

or

"I play it on the xbox"

" Fuck you, you console tard, PC for the win !"

"Please stop being so elitist".

There is a subtle difference between the two. The word "elitist" has been thrown around so much it doesn't really mean anything anymore. Just like "immersive" and "innovative". Or "morally X ":p

When A pc gamer states that a game has more advantages on a PC, that's not being elitist. That's just stating a fact. When a PC gamer calls you out because you enjoy playing on a console, that's being elitist.

Also, the threads on the escapist are starting to look more and more like Youtube Comments.

Obviously we know PC is going to have more power than a console, consoles are hardly cutting edge even when they first are released, much less two months later! But yeah, we like console gaming because it's nice and uniform and while we're stuck with what they give us, we don't have to worry being left in the dust if we don't buy the newest graphics card/motherboard/fan cooling system/mouse!

This is... pathetic. 'PC gamer, console gamer, elitist ivory towers, console kiddies'

Oh grow up.

Forming little cliques is what high school is for. Something angsty puberscent kids do because they are afraid of other angsty puberscent kids.

If your past that age and still have to do this stuff then you are pathetic, if your not past that age and still need more of it, then your also pathetic!

And of all things, gaming. This is the hobby stigmatised for being childish, trivial passtime. Your making it damn hard to be taken seriously by lashing out against people who use another machine for the same damn things.

Yes theres all sorts of arguments you can make for open platforms being far better for the industry, and provide all sorts of depth closed platforms have no interest in having, but theres realy no point taking it out on the end user for enjoying his game.

Captcha agrees: believe me

And i thought playing video games was about habing fun. Silly me. Why the fuck does it matter on which machine you play on ? If this machine (PC, PS3 etc.) gives you your fix of fun for the day...does it really matter if you play it with a mouse/keyboard or controller at the end of the day ?

Fun is Fun :).

Just noticed a few more posts that are really well worded and others which are just wierd.

My main problem I think boils down to the perception that you have to play PC to love the industry. People are challenging my love of gaming, my favourite pass time, based on what I play on.

I have been gaming since I was 8 and I'm 19 now. As silly as it seems I have 70000 gamerscore, over 100 hundred hours played on Skyrim, Fallout, Dragon Age, The witcher and an insane amount of time in my other games. I am a bit of a score whore, I like seeing pointless numbers tick up and be in competition with my friends and the world. Hence why I love Bulletstorm.

I'll tell you now and this is in angry voice or whatever viscious sounding tone you can imagine: Don't ever question my love for this industry.

I have the technical ability and money to buy and build a decent gaming rig. Hell my current PC runs Dawn of War 2 at highest settings easy as pie. I am also on a freaking Games Design course because I love the industry so much and want to have a job in it.

But I play console so according to 2 or so people so far I am destroying gaming when all I am doing is playing games alot. It's like to them I am personally causing everything they see as a problem. That I don't love gaming as much as them because my system is older. I know gamers exist who simply buy CoD year after year or whatever yearly release people hate on but I am not one of them. I aim to play as many games as possible, finish as many games as possible and experience as much of them as I am able. My collection is huge at the moment since I don't take games back just in case I want to play them again (I'm feeling like another DA:O Nightmare run right now)

People like Sanat can simply shut the fuck up, they don't know anything about me. It is wrong to think all PC gamers elitist (I never even mentioned the word in my post I believe) but it's just as bad to think a console gamer is a poor, idiot who can't build a PC or doesn't have passion for gaming.

It's just fanboys or people who feel the need to prove themselves that they bought the right thing or something, probably the same people who will replace their iphone 4 with 5. I have been a PC gamer for many years, but i have never insulted anyone for not choosing the same machine to play their games. It just makes no sense.

You mentioned comments on youtube, if you expect to find smart comments there then you are going to have a bad time.

It might have bothered me at one time, but now I just say fuck 'em. Why should PC games be considered any better than console games anyway? I enjoy Skyrim and Mass Effect just as much playing them on the Xbox as I would on a PC. Probably more so in fact, since joysticks have always felt more natural to me for anything other than RTS games, and writing. And at anyone who wants to quote stats at me, and tell me that I should base my gaming habits on cold mathematics rather than whatever just feels right, go ahead. I'll pay attention, I promise.

Also @Ven 70,000? Holy shit, I don't play my Xbox quite as often as I used to, but my score is way lower than it should be compared to that!

This is just something I've been getting alot of for about a year now.

I never noticed PC gaming was at this level until a year or so ago. I new it was there but I thought consoles was where it was at because I only used my PC for RTS games. However the gap between consoles and PC gets bigger as time goes on and more people switch to PC gaming. Damn right shame too, means no-one will buy the next gen of consoles.

Anyway the point is I feel like I've got this army of PC gamers bashing my xbox now. Everywhere I look PC gamers always seem to do their gosh damn hardest to make people realise what a 'poor' gaming choice consoles are. I'm constantly reminded about my horrible system, over-priced games, dated tech and such. Sorry but I don't have the time to join the superior beings that are PC gamers. My home PC is downstairs and I'd have to build one myself...which isn't gonna happen because I play 40k and that is ridiculously expensive.

Yes I know the PC is the better platform, I have for years, I don't need to be reminded by stupid comments on youtube videos that say "I can't take Roosterteeth seriously when they play on console" and such. Every forum, site and such I visit advocates PC gaming and makes it seem like consoles are the reason for everything bad in the industry.

I guess what I'm trying to say is I feel the gaming community is against me, that somehow me owning a console makes me a stupid or bad person who isn't a gamer and I should be constantly reminded of my systems failures. Is that the plan? Beat down console gamers until they can't take it and buy PC?

Does anyone feel the same? (likely its a majority of PC gamers on this site)
Does anyone completely and utterly disagree with me?
This isn't an angry rant just an observation that ticks me off a little.
Maybe they pick on you because you passive aggressively bash on them like you are doing with this thread? I own ALL consoles and a great PC and on the escapist and gamefaqs I have been accused of the following:

1. Being a PC elitist because I believe the version is factually better performance wise

2. Being called an x-box drone for liking it over a Ps3 version

3. Being called a "casual gamer" for liking the phone/tablet market

4. Being called a "casual gamer" for liking the Wii/nintendo products

5. Been accused of "vitasurrance" because I like my vita.

So when whiny little brats such as yourself OP come on and complain how mean people are for not agreeing with your platform of choice all I can say is grow up and stop holding a grudge.

To me there is no PC, console, casual, or handheld gamers. WE ARE ALL GAMERS. Stop trying to associate yourself with a "group" in order to justify your misplaced ignorance and hate. Thank you.

Thing is when the next-gen consoles come out the trolls who are flaming you now will have them on preorder and will be flaming people for being "PC lamers". Just ignore them, and they'll go looking for easier prey.
