Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Console gamers aren't any less of gamers than PC gamers and conversely PC gamers are no better than console gamers. There are very legitimate reasons to prefer a console over a PC, and vice versa.

I will say that PC fanboys piss me off more often than console gamers. I would far rather listen to somebody who isn't familiar with the differences between console and PC than listen to somebody who lords themselves over others within a hobby. There are many fun and kind PC gamers, but its the minority who ruin it for everyone else, as is the case with most fanbases.

I prefer a combination of PC and consoles myself. Consoles have the awesome exclusives and the pure joy of simplicity. PC's have the graphics, but the horseshit you get with an unstable platform like PCs gets ridiculous sometimes.

Only on PC do I get errors like:

"You have an ATI card? Sorry, turn off all the graphics settings that matter if you want to get into the game without a crash." (Republic Commando)

"Sorry bro, you're gonna have to restart the game every 15 minutes if you don't want to enjoy the luxuries of 10 FPS. (F.E.A.R Extraction Point)

I have 1 PC, nothing else. I would like to try console gaming, but it's too expensive for me. I needed my somewhat powerful system for work (interior 3D visualization and walk-through animation). Thanks to the financial crisis, it's mainly used for games nowadays. A lot of those "PC elitists", as some people call them, spend more money for a gaming rig than I could afford to spend on a work PC (in this kind of work, it should be as powerful as possible). A lot of them are wasteful and ignorant, spending a ton of money for PCs that have identical gaming performance (everything maxed out at 60 fps on a large resolution monitor) with machines at half or even less of their price and feeling superior for it!

I don't understand why people feel obliged to tell the world that their platform is better than everything else. What matters is the games *you* want to play, and what you're friends are playing if you're into the multiplayer scene.
I can not for the life of me care that my Xbox puts out less FPS than a PC on Deus Ex. I don't care about the mods in Skyrim either, as I've played enough of it to be bored and no longer care about it. I don't care about my PS3's framerate dropping to 15fps when shit gets hectic in Borderlands 2 split-screen. And I don't care that my PC doesn't render every god damn lighting detail in Guild Wars when people in the general chat are looking down on everyone who can't see what they can see.

People just seem to want whatever they use to be the best, despite it really not mattering.
I guess thats how cults are made.

I think it stems from a lack of social graces and the inability to structure eloquent points and arguments. Standards of education and behaviour are going down, so I am saddened but not surprised when I read Platform vs. Platform arguments on the internet. YouTube is the worst offender (that I have visited), but I must say that people on The Escapist seem a great deal more mature on thee whole.
Oh God, yes. The social graces are indeed going poof. I'm seeing the new blood start its first Bachelor's semesters and I've had to correct a few papers. I'm seeing kids who want to major in Literature and who can't form a correct sentence structure to save their lives. They enjoy *reading*, but are the first to tell me that *writing* sucks.

So why would you even major in Literature? We're not going to extract essays out of your brain through microwaves, you moron - you'll have to work for your grades!

That and, well, the Ministry of Education is pushing the required averages down just so we can keep a straight face about the number of diplomas being pushed out.

It's just appalling, really. Today's kids are being taught that you'll be fine if you don't learn shit in class, as long as:

a) you're pretty;
b) you can make stupid faces in front of game footage, which gets you a YouTube partnership;
c) you possess the undefinable attribute which is "swag".

Failing that, keep pushing and maybe you'll get a spot in a bullshit Reality TV program!

Have what you love, and love what you have.

I enjoy my PC and my laptop for their convieniance, as work and play are but the flicks of switches away from one another. Tablets may surpass laptops in the coming years, but I'll still likely enjoy using laptops for the physical keys and control..and for the screens not covered in fingerprints.

Play on want you want...
I personally think that there is too much fanboy-ism and you can't really be a fanboy for PC because they are all so different...
Consoles are alive and will continue to live because of console exclusive games.

I am a PC gamer, I don't like consoles that much. It's more because of lifestyle choices and I prefer a swiss-army-knife approach to everything. That being something I can do WORK on or browse on easily. I understand people who play consoles, they have their advantages (like parties) but I do think PC's are vastly superior. Anyone who says console players are stupid/idiots/should die upside-down in a fire - is just pathetic. These people are taking attention away from serious issues facing gaming and dragging down public perception down on the rest of us.

it is true IF you replace parts like every year and get a new setup every 3-5 years.
to get the maximum potential.
otherwise this is just not true.
nope wrong buy best cpu n gpu today n itll last years on ultra n even longer on low if you say otherwise you know nothing about computing hardware

great for you? Again, I do not care how more 'economic' it is, I'm still sinking money I do not have into a machine for the sole purpose of gaming, when I already have a gaming console.
saying "i spent all my money on a junker car from an impound lot, therefore I don't care that you bought a nice new car for less than I bought my junker" Is not an argument for it being better. It's just an acknowledgement that you made a bad choice on how to spend your money in the past and are now stuck with that poor decision.

chinangel said:
Why should I play a port when the original is on the system I already own?
Most games are developed for both systems at the same time so your question does not make much sense. There isn't a 'system it was originally developed for' there are multiple systems that it was developed for in parallel. Barring extreme circumstances where the developers are really bad at their jobs(which likely means either version of it will be garbage) the two games are pretty much exactly the same. Only the PC version has a lot more support, a lot less restrictions and is almost always cheaper.

My Daddy wants to buy me a gaming laptop so we can play GW II together, and if so then fine, I'll play it with him, but that's the only reason I'd get a gaming laptop/computer: to play with my friends.
Why do you think that there are 'gaming' computers? There are powerful computers that can be used for gaming, but there aren't computers that are specifically and only for gaming. That's the whole point, to be able to do everything off of a single system rather than having tons of superfluous and less powerful hardware.

And if you really can't think of anything else than ME PLAY VIDEOGAMES to do with your computer then that's your fault for being unimaginative. My PC can help cure cancer while I'm asleep. It can be harnessed to help compute equations for NASA, discover new stars, fight malaria. I can have a screensaver that works with other computer to generate abstract paintings. I don't even have a basic cable TV connection because my computer can just stream TV shows in HD off of corporate websites without commercials. I don't need a blueray player because my computer can already read BR/DVD/CD and plug into my TV to play them on a large screen. I barely even have any clutter now because I don't need to keep very many physical disks because I can store everything electronically as CD images or access them from an offsite library through steam or google's storage infastructure. I can play any music I want through pandora or my personal library while I'm gaming without having to fire up other electronics. I can alt tab and browse the internet while I'm waiting for a multiplayer game to start. If I don't understand something I can instantly access wikipedia. I'm not restricted to talking to other people who have XBOX live, I can text cellphones, make phone calls, talk to anyone on any instant messaging platform.

And that is only just the beginning of what I can do with my 'gaming' computer.

chinangel said:
I do not care about specs, I care about if I'm having fun -_-
I said nothing about specs. That another point entirely. I'm talking economics and consolidation of computing power both in the short term and more pronouncedly so in the long term(which both does and does not have to do with system specs.)
Good for you? You have failed to convince me as to why I should get a computer when I already own a console and all my games are on it.

Again, I do NOT care how much more powerful it is, and all I use my computer for is writing and Skype. That's pretty much it.

You tell me it's more economic, but the thing is...it's not. Not for me at this point. Not when I already have purchased what I want and am using it without issue, and all my games are on it. I have no reason to go back and get a different gaming platform when I really don't need it, outside of the fact that I'm supposed to feel bad for playing on an 'inferior' platform.

even when I get my gaming computer, why should i go back and purchase all the games I already own? So they can look somewhat prettier? 'More support' is a poor reason because I never really buy dlc or have any problems with the game. 'Cheaper' is out because I already own a physical copy of the games I'm interested in and a second copy, physical or digital will do me no good, and I've never really cared all that much which copy of the game looks better as it will do little to enhance my enjoyment of the game.

If you like your PC, good for you. But I am a console gamer and I'm happy with that.

No you don't. A $500 PC can play the majority of AAA titles.
Since when is 500 dollars NOT a considerable amount of fucking money. It would take me a good month of work to save that amount up.

But I'm going to need to save up so I can play the Skyrim DLC.. *sigh* What I get for buying a PS3 after 3 360's die on me I guess.

Yes because you already bought an inferior system and thus don't have money for the better system. If you're starving on the streets with 5$ to your name and you buy a hamburger that tastes like it has been doused in sewage it's not going to be economical to go ahead and rebuy something cheaper and better. But that doesn't make having bought the sewage burger an economical idea.

Again, just because you're on a set path does not make it better. It only makes you more emotionally and economically invested in convincing yourself that it is. Even if you're wrong.

chinangel said:

I know we already covered how unimaginative you are, but come on at least put some effort into it. I can get free content that has been fan restored for games. I can download and install unofficial patches to fix even the most minor of bugs. I can download mods that add almost anything that I want to games like skyrim. I can render far more objects moving at the same time, allowing large grandscale multiplayer battles. I can run more complex AI for multiple enemies. I can perform more complex physics operations. I can do a hundred other things that influence gameplay in very noticeable ways.

chinangel said:

Who mentioned DLC?... and holy shit stop the presses, you've absolutely never run into a single bug in any game ever?

chinangel said:

And your consoles will last forever and never break, and after your body passes away aliens will discover them amongst the aqueducts, pyramids, parachute pants, and everything else that is not effected by time. And developers will constantly develop for your console so that you never have to buy another gaming system again, because we live in a magical time-loop just for your benefit.

Of course rather than investing in a PC when the next gen consoles come around and your games wont run on them anymore, you'll just buy a new console. Because getting shafted by corporations is too much fun to pass up.

Yeah, because that's totally the only thing that increased computational power is capable of.

I personally do not agree with bashing one system over the other and thus do not partake....

But I must admit that as a PC gamer in the early days of this last generation (and really my whole gaming life) It got REALLY REALLY annoying hearing people say "PC gaming is dead" 4 years later those same people are singing a different tune.... So yeah... in some ways I find it vindicating simply because I put up with all the bashing coming the other way just a short while ago.

Do I agree with system bashing? No it is annoying... but lets be honest when something you supported for years finally becomes top dog you tend to feel some level of satisfaction.

I don't know about about PC gaming VS Consoles but unless you are a poor console gaming peasant you have both.

I really can't think of a PC gamer who doesn't own at least one other console. So yeah. They are a bunch of hypocrites when they brow beat you about using primarily consoles to game.

It really is none of their business where you do your gaming.

LOOK AT THESE GRAPHICS! LOOK AT THEM!!!
You know what the sad part is?

One Minute: GAMES FOCUS TOO MUCH ON GRAPHICS!
Next Minute: THIS GAME NEEDS 4024x4024 TEXTURE MODS ON EVERYTHING! EVEN THE PILLOWS!

One Minute: I HATE DRM!
Next Minute: THIS GAME ISN'T ON STEAM! WTF?!?!?!

One Minute: GAMES NEED TO BE LONGER THAN 6 HOURS!
Next Minute: LET'S BOYCOTT THE ONLY MAJOR COMPANY THAT MAKES REALLY LONG GAMES ANYMORE BECAUSE OF ENDINGS AND SHIT!

Why are PC gamers so fucking inconsistent...
Because it is a community full of different people.

Bayonetta 2 is a Wii U exclusive? WTF!?
The PS3 has exclusive games AWESOME!

Why are console gamers so fucking inconsistent...

It's probably because it is a huge group of people where about 95% just plays games and enjoys themselves and a small 5% portion goes on the internet to outrage at everything.

Also are you seriously saying Bioware should be cut some slack?

Not after Dragon Age 2, the laziest game ever made.

I say the more the merrier. The only console from the current generation that I don't have is the Wii, and the reason for that is lack of arm waving space. These days I spend more time on my PC because of Guild Wars 2 and Skyrim, but this time last year I mostly played on my consoles.

Wow...now you're just being an ass. Neo-Amish? Maybe I don't need my computer for anything else? I talk to my family through skype and I write stories? That's all I really need it for? You want to hurl insults around and dismiss my points, that's your decision.

I'm glad you enjoy your PC and I'm glad your proud of it. I'm proud of my console and yes I'll probably get the next generation of consoles. Why? Because I'm a console gamer who doesn't have time to figure out why her computer isn't running atm. I've watched one of my friends (who is far more tech savvy than I am, though you likely have a snarky remark for that too) struggle with the computer her built. Bad parts sent by companies, parts failing, and problem after problem.

Combine his misfortune with your attitude and I'm pretty much off buying gaming computers. I have what I want and I'm happy with it.

Though I'm a PC gamer at heart, I still like consoles for certain games and genres. I will joke at times about the "superiority" of PC gaming, but I think that there are benefits to both PCs and consoles. It all depends on both your group of friends, and the way you like to interact with your games.
