This is who I would want.
Heh, when I saw DiCaprio mentioned I thought "hey, if you are just going to use people fresh off Inception, surely Gordon-Levitt would be a more logical choice?".
Have Ellen Page play Catwoman. Have a bit where the Scarcrow (Cillian Murphy) makes them go into a shared dreamspace. I think it would work...

But seriously, at this point, Nolan could say he was going to cast Tommy Wiseau as the Riddler and my mum as Catwoman and I would still trust him to make a pretty darn good movie out of it.

Seems like he would be better at it than the overacting Jim Carrey.

But then again, the Riddler is the type of character that should be overacted... hmm...

Bane has been rumoured for a while: I think Nolan quite likes him - but I could have misheard that one.

Same here, I think that guy would be brilliant.

Please do not let anyone mentioned in this post be associated with this film, (barring Leo - but he's not who I'd cast as the riddler at all).

Not even Kate Beckinsale?!

She's a great actress. She can obviously handle action films(Underworld). Not to mention she's gorgeous beyond belief. Sure, that part doesn't help in a movie, but it doesn't hurt.

Other than that, I agree. Although I'm willing to bet Leo could pull off a decent Riddler for the Nolan style of Batman.
Did you actually watch the Underworld movies? She (along with everything else about them) was tragically bad.

I just hope that by "Darker" they dont turn the Riddler into some sort of boring Saw rip off, "Batman, I would like to play a game. What has 4 legs in the morning, 2 in the afternoon and 3 at night?" The Riddler from Arkum Asylum was quite good, the funny type of crazy and the out come was quite good. Chances are they will just turn him into some sort of Cyber terrorist dude who spends the whole movie locked in his room, it could work but it could also be really, REALLY boring.

Zsasz has already appeared in Batman Begins, who's to say he won't return somehow in 3? I think TDK covered why Batman can't endanger himself/someone else by having a love interest, so I think Catwoman would be out. I also don't see Nolan using a Venom induced Luchador as a key villain either. Black Mask, Penguin, Great White Shark could all appear being that their powers come from business/corruption and that was a large theme in BB and TDK, and seeing as how the Gotham criminals are all but disbanded after TDK, any of the 3 I've mentioned could try to reorganize and try to reclaim Gotham. Hush, Dr. Strange or The Riddler would prolly be used to create the fear of Bruce Wayne's potential public outing as Batman.

That's my 2 cents.

Can't the third Batman film just be a live-action adaption of The Dark Knight Returns?

We could replace Christian Bale, whom I personally think makes an awful Batman[footnote]His Bruce Wayne is good, but not great[/footnote] with someone else without having to handwave it, we could include a Robin[footnote]Even though Robin would be female[/footnote], and it would be a plausible continuation of the ending from The Dark Knight, only slightly changing the script so it will seem like Batman retired after the death of Harvey Dent.

Because I honestly don't think they can make the third Batman film top the second one without taking it to new places. Sure, it might fall on its ass and fail, but I really prefer this idea
Other than the reimagining of the Joker I thought the second movie was slow and disappointing. Dent should have had 3rd degree burns instead of missing his skin. Batman thought the city would lose morale if a lawyer's actions were discovered but it would be fine with Batman the murderer.
OT: I like Leo as Riddler especially considering what a great actor he's become. What scares me is the choices for catwoman.
Don't you then think my idea makes even more sense?

Batman completely failed to see the flaw of his plan, and society becomes worse with him gone instead of improving. Utterly crushed by the knowledge that he's failed his promise to his parents, as well as having become the enemy of the city instead of its savior, he breaks down and gives up.
I like your idea, Hub, it makes sense. Go direct the film, NOW!

And am I the only one who thinks that if DiCaprio plays The Riddler, The Riddler will die in the movie since it's DiCaprio?
[SUB]I don't want Inception spoilers whether he dies or not, I haven't seen it yet![/SUB]

Also, The Riddler? Surely, there are better villains left. I mean really? The Riddler? I can't express my distaste.
What other villains are there for a serious Batman movie? And your not very reasonable if you get so worked up over a selection of something that may turn out very good.

I hope that Nolan sticks with his guns and leaves Joker out of this movie, I agree with the assessment that Ledger broke the mold. And I never really liked Ledger in any other movie prior to that. And I even went the distance, doing something I never thought I'd do and watched the posthumous nod for the Oscar.
That being said, I'd like to see Leo (another actor I used to absolutely hate til I saw a few of his later movies) as Riddler, I see a little bit of perhaps what Nolan sees (if this is more than unsubstantiated rumor). Liam Neeson wasn't exactly someone I'd have seen as Ras Al Ghul either... and anyone who knows the canon behind Al Ghul, I wouldn't rule him out still being alive.
Also, we still have Scarecrow running loose (ie: not dead). Also Two-Face was never really pronounced dead, just press-released. (No body, no dead! Jim Morrison lives!!!)
So there's a few villains you can pack in.
Keep Fox, Murphy (and I used to love Eddie...) and Beckinsale off the table. Not interested. Fox can't act except like herself (Oh look a female Ben Affleck/Jeff Goldblum), Murphy just isn't funny anymore and Beckinsale's hot but not Catwoman material.
That being said... I don't know (if this really is Nolan's last Batman) that its a good idea to bring in Catwoman at all. She's a character that deserves at least 2 films worth of development.

I love it. Let's find a way to work in Alfred and Not-Ra's Al-Ghul while we're at it.

My sentiments exactly. I'm not in favor of any of those women playing Catwoman. Eddie Murphy shouldn't be anywhere near any film that isn't already complete crap. Same for Shia, quite possibly one of the worst young actors in the business today.

Also, please no Catwoman. The third Batman movie really should have Robin, so we have somebody we can freaking relate to as a human being. Somebody with emotions, desires... Somebody struggling to fit in, trying to be both a hero and a good student/son (of sorts). I always liked Robin. Begins was fine with keeping Batman sort of interesting, but the Bat in Dark Knight is just the same boring plot device mover he always was. Dark Knight was a good movie and all, but I feel like the movie was so obnoxiously dark (both visually and in tone) for what was a fairly simple message and idea, the third movie should be a little more balanced, like Batman Begins.

Or if everyone is totally opposed to Robin, what about Batgirl? As for villains, I'd like to see baddies like Killer Croc, Bane and Mr. Freeze rather than yet another rendition of Catwoman or the Penguin.

I dunno, maybe part of it is I'm not a huge fan of Batman anyway. If I want my Batman action, only with actual human emotions, romantic interests that go somewhere and genuine character development, well, that's why Nightwing exists.

Show Bane some respect man! How many of his villains have actually beaten Batman?

One problem with Great White Shark. His origin. As awesome as it is, REALLY doesn't fit Nolan. As interesting a visual as he would be I would rather they just used a different gangland villain.

Black Mask, or a Dent-didn't-die-Two Face.

Hell, why not The Ventriloquist? :p I always liked how genuinely crazy him came across, to the point where sometimes you can begin to believe him about Scarface.

But Catwomen has always been able to look after herself (except for when she got tossed from the window), they may use that as an excuse to cram a romance story in there. Not to mention shes a hired help, top lackey character and the Riddler would proberly need a few to plant his green box's.
