Since I don't see a topic discussing it and I don't really feel the need to make a topic dedicated to it: The weapons in Lonesome Road are awesome. This is the kickass weapon DLC, if anything else. The actual content is good too, but damn the weapons are great.
Are the enemies hard?

Oh, and are the perks you can get any good?

And the story? Is it all we've been hoping for?
Yeah, the enemies are pretty difficult. Not so much the guys shooting at you, but the new creatures (who dig in the ground and attack you from behind) and the deathclaws are pretty tough. I'd say prefer this kind of difficulty over Old World Blues, where the enemies were just bullet sponges.

Perks are good as well.

Story? Well, there isn't much of a story so far, just Ulyssess talking to you. He has some interesting things to say, about it hasn't amounted to much yet. I feel like I'm nearing the end though.
Yeah, I expected as much. It is better than the OWB ones though? That's good news.

Really? Have you picked any good ones thus far? There isn't any info on the wiki for them

MMmmmm, I see. The DLC's haven't really been "story driven", have they?

There's another perk you can get with quite a bit of points in survival (Making that skill somewhat worthwhile) that adds another 50 pounds to your total carry weight. (Stacks with strong back.)

Dead Money was actually really story driven. Lonesome Road isn't nearly as story heavy as Dead Money was.

Well, damn. I don't really have many points in survival, but that sounds like something I could really use. Ah well.

Ehhhh, I don't know about Dead Money. It felt more like surivial horror go-there/shoot-that sort of story.

Wait, there is? Must have missed it. (Just finished it.)

I really liked it solely because of the amazing weapons and actually really interesting level design, but that whole Ulyssess thing was kind of vague. He was interesting, but due to the way he talks, he just speaks in constant metaphors and he kind of repeats himself.

I found it in the very first building you can enter on the left as soon as you leave that first silo at the start of the DLC.

Am I the only one who saw a small bit of logic in Elijah's plan? I mean, far be it from me to say that we have the right to kill everyone and make the world the way we want it, no one has right to make that decision. But from an entirely logic based standpoint with no concern for the morality of it like Dr.Manhattan or a Vulcan, doesn't it seem like a good idea? I would personally still kill Elijah, but I can kinda see where he was coming from.

Due to being kind of busy, today the only update will be the Lily's Log. Sorry bout that, things should be back on schedule for tomorrow.

Sorry about the kind of repetitive nature of this log, it's covering all the stuff we did and for the most part there isn't much of a hook for these quests. So it's just like, you're character is exploring around randomly until you bump into something. It's much easier to write these for the main quest.

[HEADING=1]Lily's Log - Strange Occurences in the Wasteland[/HEADING]
After getting back to Megaton after my dealings with the Outcasts, I still did not feel very compelled to go straight to Lamplight Caverns to get the GECK. It took me quite a while to decide what to do next, but I realized that I explored so little of the Capital Wasteland. Maybe I explored more of it, I could get an idea of what the situation was like outside of areas close to the DC ruins.

I needed to resupply however, so I headed to Hamilton's Hideaway, I had neglected to visit it even after Three Dog gave me the key to the armory. After a short trip across the wastes, I made it inside. It was filled with raiders and radscorpions, but eventually I cleared it. At first, I had believed that Three Dog had fooled me, I could not find the armory. After a bit of searching however, I found the armory. The supplies will be very handy in the weeks to come.

I wandered in the wastes for a while after that. I did not have any leads on interesting settlements in the area, so I just explored around areas already marked on my pip-boy. Eventually, I came across a strange sight: a tree.

The entire wasteland is inexplicably devoid of any sort of flora, but this small grove is filled with it. Curiosity got the better of me, and I ventured further in. I encountered a group of people, who referred to themselves as treeminders, and wore robes with branches sticking out of them.

The wanted me to talk to their "god" as he requested me. I was skeptical at first, but I sure that I could fight my way out if it was a trap. Upon meeting him, I realized that he wasn't a god at all. He was some sort of mutant, rooted into the ground. He was the source of all the trees here. Harold requested me to put him out of his misery, but I was hesitant at first. I left the grove where Harold was in, so that I could think more about my options, but then I was approached by the leaders of the treeminders. One suggested that I put some sap on his heart, and the other asked me to put liniment on it. The sap would stop him from growing, the liniment would spread the trees across the wasteland. I knew then what I had to do.

I made my way down to the roots of the trees, and found Harold's heart. I applied the liniment to it. I felt bad for prolonging his suffering, but if he could spread trees across the wasteland, he could improve the lives of everyone living there.

They rewarded me for what I had done, and I left soon after. I question the sanity of the people who lived in Oasis, but I did not bother them, they did not seem to be harming anyone.

As I made my way back to my home in Megaton, I noticed a strange radio signal coming from the vault. The Vault was in chaos after I left it, and Amata wanted me to return to sort things out. I was not sure about returning to the Vault after me being partially responsible for what was happening, even if it was unintentional.

I gained access to the Vault, and met Officer Gomez soon after walking through the door. While he said he could not let me in, he let me pass. Apparently there were people wanting to leave the vault but the new Overseer would not let them. Amata was glad to see me, she seemed to have forgiven me for what happened to her father. She wanted me to talk to the Overseer, convince him to the open the vault for trading, but she said that violence was not needed. I wasn't intending to attack the Overseer, but he wouldn't have that. I tried to reason with him, but he attacked me. Given no choice, I retaliated and killed him. I thought Amata would be angry, but she understood why I did what I did.

I knew it was too good to be true, Amata told me that I should leave the Vault. I did not argue with her, I just said goodbye and left. You would think that I would be more sad about leaving, but honestly, I could not give a damn about the Vault anymore. I would not want to see harm to come to them, but I just did not want to have anything to do with them anymore...

After spending some more time in Megaton, a woman offered me a job to send a message to her family in Arefu. I did not ask much about the job, I just left Megaton once again in order to get to Arefu. According to my pip-boy, it was not very far from Megaton. I saw the town from quite far away, it was hard to miss: It was built on an old overpass. I decided not to think why they would build it in such a location, as there are cities in the Capital Wasteland that are built in worse locations.

The town of Arefu (If you could call it that. There were about 6 people living there, at the most.) was on edge after some attacks from some thugs known as the Family. They murdered the family I was to deliever the message to, and kidnapped their son. I wanted to help Arefu, so I offered to hunt down this "Family" and maybe negotiate with them. They were somewhat difficult to find, but once I made my way down into the metro, I had a general idea of where to go. I encountered the lookout of the Family, and I was able to convince him that I was not a threat, and he let me pass through. What I saw surprised me: They had built a settlement down here. Aside from an impending tunnel collapse, the settlement seemed pretty defensible against most things that could attack it.

I met with their leader, Vance. He was a strange sort. He believed that he was helping these people who were shunned from society for being cannibals. He said he tought them the way of the vampire, an Old World myth that I'm only vaguely aware of. I thought this was rather silly, but I made sure not to vocalize it in front of Vance, as he took it very seriously. I was able to convince Vance to let me talk to the boy (Who apparently killed his family himself, and he was "rescued" by the family.) and to stop attacking Arefu, and to protect them in exchange for blood packs. (I was not sure of the purpose of the blood packs or what they needed the blood for exactly. Was it like food to them, or did it simply sate their bloodlust? Obviously they weren't "real" vampires.)

Returning from the metro tunnels, I went back to Arefu and settled accounts there. I got my reward, and went on my way, I decided to go to Rivet City. I don't mean to give the impression that these treks through the wasteland were brief, they took quite a long time.

I remembered meeting Dr. Zimmer when I visited Rivet City for the first time. He had a job involving a lost android, and I was intrigued about the technology behind such a thing. I did not have much information about this android, but Zimmer told me I could gather the information from the doctors and scientists from around the wasteland.) It took me a bit of searching in order to get enough information for me to get a solid lead, but I was told to find a man named Pinkerton, who lives in Rivet City. I heard stories of Pinkerton, they say he lives in the broken part of the carrier. So I went swimming to find it. Not really sure what motivated me to do so, but I knew I'd have to find him somehow.

I turns out the stories were right, as I met Pinkerton. He really hated Dr. Li, while I did not completely agree with him, I could sympathize with him. He told me that the robot was a man named Harkness, who I remembered talking to. Pinkerton gave me the codes to give the robot his old memories back, which were erased in the reconstructive surgery. I did not return Harkness to Zimmer, instead I helped him kill Zimmer. The wasteland would be a better place without a man such as him. As a reward, Harkness gave me a plasma rifle of his. It turns out that it was an extremely powerful plasma rifle, perhaps one of the most powerful weapons I've found in the wasteland yet.

Three Dog was talking about some strange things going on in a settlement called Canterbury Commons. I only knew it's general location, so it took me quite a long time to find it. In my journeys, I came across a rather large scrapyard. I assumed it would be faster to go through it than around it. Surprisingly the scrapyard hasn't been scavenged for metal yet. I found a dog alone in the scrapyard, it just fought off about 3 raiders. The dog was friendly towards me, which was strange considering every other dog I've encountered has tried to murder me. I decided to keep the dog, it didn't have anywhere else to go. Besides, it was a good fighter.

After some walking, we made it to Canterbury Commons. It was a strange sight upon entering the town, a man dressed up as a robot and a women in an ant costume were fighting each other in the streets. The whole situation was ridiculous. Don't people have more important things to do rather than pose as superheroes? Eventually the ran off, and the mayor of the town approached me. He apologized me for what happened, apparently the battles between the "Mechanist" and "AntAgonizer" are a common occurance in the town. Canterbury Commons is a trading center, so if these fights continued, it would scare traders off. So, naturally, I was hired to solve this problem. People can't seem to do anything for themselves around here, but the reward was good enough for me. I found the Mechanist's hideout and managed to convince him to quit being a "hero". I wasn't as lucky with the AntAgonizer and had to kill her. It was obvioust that she was absolutely insane, but then again, who isn't around here?

I picked up my reward, and left for Megaton once again. Maybe all this insanity is a sign that I should go find that GECK.

We are not going to get the GECK quite yet, there's a few more quests I want to throw in before the game effective railroads you into the ending.

So I finished Lonesome Road, and I really liked it, but I'd say it was the weakest of the DLC's. If you didn't go out of the way to detonate the warheads and secret for secrets, it can be rather short. It's linear, but I think the level design is interesting enough for me to forgive that. The new weapons and armor are great though, the best in the entire game. (My favorites are the Red Glare and the Industrial Hand.)

Also, based on your choices at the end, you can have an impact on the Mojave.

Not quite as linear, but I'd still say linear.

It's not a major impact, but it does give you access to some different new areas depending on your choices, with some great loot exclusive to each one. Also, a tip, if you are supporting House or doing an Independant run, if you want Ulysses dialogue to make any sense, makes sure you have some high rep on the Strip. Otherwise, I believe he just assumes you faction based off your reputation. (Which in-universe, makes kind of sense if you think about it.)

I missed the word "unique" in CM156's post. I just found a silenced .22 SMG, and (having not used those guns...at all) thought it was a new thing.

So....

[HEADING=1]Chapter XXXII - Order Now and Get a Free Abe Lincoln Action Figure![/HEADING]
There's still a sizeable amount of sidequests for us to do. Let's get to the more the more 'sensible' ones. (By Fallout 3 standards anyway.)

We're heading back to the Mall. There's a couple sidequests we can pick up here, but we're gonna tackle the more obvious one in the Lincoln Memorial.

These Brotherhood guys tend to wind up dead from time to time.

The Western most end of the Mall has the Lincoln Memorial, and the Easternmost part has the Capital Building. (Which we might check out later.)

So apparently the Lincoln Memorial is turned into a base. I should be surprised, but people seem to like to put their bases in the old historical buildings.

"Easy now. I'm just curious about this place. I'm not looking for trouble."

"Curiosity can get a wastelander killed. I'm going to let you through, but you'll have to talk to Mr. Walker first. Follow me. Oh, and stay off the Memorial steps. They orders to shoot anyone that gets too close."

That's kind of a dickish thing to do. Then again, they are slavers...

Addendum: The dirt path is safe, if you don't mind the multiple traps along it.

Their leader is in a room in the base of the memorial.

Their leader seems like a nice guy, with his spiky armor and sneer.

Well, kinda. Why would anyone want a base in the middle of the biggest warzone in DC.

"Looks to me like you're getting ready for war. What are you really doing here?"

"You're a sharp one. We're from Paradise Falls."

We haven't been to Paradise Falls yet, it's basically the city for evil people. (Tenpenny Tower is the city for "rich" people, key difference, though the game doesn't think so.) It's pretty much slaver central, we'll be visiting it when we get to Little Lamplight.

"We're hunting runaway slaves. Have you seen any?"

"I haven't seen any slaves recently."

We have not seen any slaves at all outside of The Pitt. Apparently these guys are capturing slaves for The Pitt, which fills in a plot hole.

"That's too bad. You know, you seem like the type of wastelander that might be for hire."

How can every NPC tell?

"I need someone to get some loot of a nearby ruin. Are you interested?"

"Okay. Where is this ruin?"

"It's a museum, just past the Washington Monument. I'm only interested in stuff related to Abraham Lincoln."

They must be fans.

"Bring me back whatever you find. Oh, and don't try and go into the Memorial. THe guards have orders to shoot on sight."

"Why are you so interested in Lincoln artifacts?"

"Don't want slaves using them to start a revolt or anything. So we burn them."

How do the slaves know of Lincoln anyway?

So, we could give the slavers Lincoln's stuff, but we're the good guy here. I really don't remember how to tie in this part of the quest with actually helping the slaves, so we have to go all the way to Canterbury Commons and search around until we bump into the place. (By that I mean, check the Wiki.)

You can see the place from over here. (It's that nondescript ruin on the left side of the screen, near the overpass.)

Another building in the middle of nowhere...

If we were just passing through, I doubt we would have even noticed them hiding out in the building. (Except that it's in the middle of nowhere.)

"I'm just looking for a place to rest, and maybe do some trading."

"Hannibal says I gotta let folks like you in, but that don't mean I have to like it. Keep your hands in sight and don't make any sudden moves. I'm coming down to open the gate."

So you can't leave this place now, great.

This is the leader of the slaves. A bit off-topic, but am I the only one who thinks the recon armor looks a tad ugly?

"I'm not going to ask you who you are. For the moment, I don't care. We are all escaped slaves. I need your solemn promise not to betray us to Paradise Falls or the Slavers."

Why did they even both telling us that in the first place? That wasn't the first thing that came to my mind when I saw them.

"Until I get that, you cannont leave here. So, do I have your word?"

You can just jump out a window and leave, with no negative consequences if I remember correctly.

"I solemnly swear to protect the Temple of the Union."

"Welcome, sister, to the Temple of the Union!"

They expect you to somehow be alright with them bsically holding you against your will until you tell them you won't say anything to anyone. They're lucky Lily is such a nice person...

"Our home is your home. Your past is your own affair, so long as you serve our common good. As a symbol of our trust, here is a key to the gate."

Gee, thanks. I could lockpick it anyway.

"What are a bunch of escaped slaves doing holed up here?"

"We are trying to make a safe haven for all runaway slaves. We give food and supplies to any that find us, and help them on their way."

Yes, it's just a post-apocalyptic underground railroad.

"Why don't you let them stay here?"

"We don't have enough room. There's not enough water or food here. But I have a plan. A plan to take over a place that will be a shining beacon of hope for all slaves."

"Sounds dangerous. Where is this place?"

"I want to move all my people to the Memorial site for the great Abraham Lincoln, but I need to know if it's safe."

Well aside from slavers, there's constant super mutant attacks and such. Maybe you could find a slightly safer option?

"I've heard rumors of Super Mutants infesting that area though. We need to send someone to check that out first."

We already checked that out for him.

"Don't worry about the Super Mutants. Slavers are in control of the Memorial."

"Slavers? Dear God. They must know about our plans."

Really? I just assumed they were there because that is where they thought a lot of slaves would go to by default.

"Do whatever you have to do to make the Memorial site safe for my people."

So, kill them all?

"Before you leave, speak with Caleb. He'll need your help too."

Everybody wants our help around here.

Thankfully everyone is about a few feet away from each other here...

Woah, back off with that hammer. (It takes him awhile to stop doing this animation while facing you.)

"Hannibal says you need something?"

"Hannibal told you about Lincoln's Memorial? Well, he doesn't just want to live there. He also wants to restore it. Make it so people tell stories about it and the word can get to the slaves. But I can't restore something if I don't know what it looked like. I need a drawing or photograph of it."

So, we risk our lives to get said drawing naturally.

"Where the hell am I supposed to get a picture of the Memorial?"

It should not be that hard to find a picture of it.

"Our ancestors honored Lincoln's life with a display in the Museum of History, I'm hoping that a picture of the Memorial still survives in there."

So, we're off to the Museum of History. It's like across the street from the Museum of Technology.

Due to the stupid "You can't leave the place until you talk to Hannibal" thing, we can't fast travel from there. So we have to walk quite a bit so that we can fast travel.

So this is the entrance to the Museum of History. There is the lookout for the ghouls of Underworld that we can talk to, but she doesn't have much of anything interesting to say. (Except for contradicting some stuff you might have heard earlier involving super mutants and ghouls.)

This is the entrance to Underworld, but that is for another update. Let's go where we're supposed to go.

There's a shit ton of feral ghouls in this place.

The Museums are always fun.

Lots of glowing ones here.

I don't know if I touched upon this earlier, but what's annoying about fighting ghouls (especially Reavers) is that you're always at a net loss as it comes to ammo/money. They don't drop anything valuable, and are pretty much a waste of bullets. That's why I usually stick to the 10mm around them.

As you can see, there is a ton of these ghouls. They're easy to kill, but they can be a nuisance.

Further down you get into a restruant, and even more ghouls attack us. I pull out a laser rifle in an attempt to save ammo.

The lasers have some pretty cool VATS animations as well.

We go through a showroom to get to the next part of the museum. The lighting here is pretty nice and atmospheric.

More ghouls. At least no reavers, right?

Despite being weaker compared to some of the other insanely powerful energy weapons, it does a ton of damage.

Dogmeat is really useful here, simply because he pulls most of the aggro and he can't die.

Some ammo here for no reason. It's a museum...?

There's a cool Abe Lincoln action figure. You can sell it to the slaves for a pathetic fee later. (10 caps. 20 if you get a speech check.)

I assume this is an employee's only part of the museum.

There's a turret that guns down all the ghouls in this room. You'd think it would have killed them all before we got here, but whatever.

It attacks you too though.

So there's the poster. We can another cool Lincoln item in here too though...

FUCK. That's a reaver. I think we're at a low level here, don't they show up past level 20?

This is the only time that I've seen Dogmeat take that much damage. It's insane.

The Ripper doesn't even put a dent in the thing.

Eventually, we get a critical hit and take him down though.

We find Lincoln's Repeater, which is one of the strongest guns weapons in the game.

Let's get the hell out of here now...

Back in the Temple of the Union

So now, before we tell the slaves to go to the Memorial, we need to wipe out the slavers from the Memorial.

We sneak up on the raider and headshot him. I thought we could be sneaky about this but...

Aww... I was hoping this would be like the time where I snuck through Cottonwood Cove and The Fort in a Legion disguise (New Vegas of course) and managed to sneak kill everyone between me and Caesar's tent. Then I put a bullet right in Caesar's head. (They can see past your diguise at that point.)

I like the repeater weapons.

.44 ammo somewhat rare/expensive though, so you can't abuse Lincoln's Repeater. The one that uses 10mm from Point Lookout on the other hand...

On the inside, the monument looks quite cool.

Nice little touches added too. The memorial seems rather small though, I imagined it to be bigger.

So now Hannibal and the slaves start a long walk towards DC.

Nope, I'm not following them like I did with James. I probably would have scrapped that update if it wasn't for the Firelance appearing.

They have a dog named Four Score. Cute. All the domesticated dog models look exactly the same, it could be Dogmeat's exact clone.

Back in Mutant Town

So we fast travel back to the memorial, and wait for Hannibal to show up, for like a day or so.

He comes out of this metro tunnel right here. We get attacked by some dogs...

Dogmeat dispatches them quite easily.

Dogmeat is eyeing that fire hydrant.

After waiting a long time, they finally appear.

So, Hannibal gives us our reward (Dart Gun schematics, which is indeed a useful weapon that I will eventually make) and pretty much sends us on our way. Yeah. Not much to the quest, honestly. It's really straightforward, and it's short. (Hell, most people would have already explored the Museum of History by now, so getting the picture would be without any difficulty.)

So, what did you think of this quest?

(Sorry about the lateness of this update. Hopefully I can make a few updates in advance this weekend to avoid stuff like this from happening again.)

I tried that. I was annoyed that when you kill the second to last person in the tent, who ever is the final person sees you, even if you are in stealth. So I just went through and murderized everyone.

I slaughtered Paradise Falls before I did the quest, so the slavers talked, then tried to kill me.

It took a while for the slaves to get there though.

Also, I missed the weapon.

Anyway, seems like a pretty good quest. The slaves are a bit derpy. They didn't really need to explain why they there or who they were to some stranger. The monument was a cool location, though.

Sneaking into Cottonwood Cove and massacring all the Legion there is something everyone should try at least once. It's pretty crazy when you get inside that tent and the Ballistic Fists are everywhere. I did that on my first playthrough. I was specializing in melee weapons and had Oh Baby with me. Smashy smashy...

What a letdown! I still like it better than Dead Money. I may enjoy it more when I play it again, as the character I had going was my Legion-aligned one. However, it is pretty awesome that they open up a new area in the Mojave depending on your choice at the end of Lonesome Road. Does anyone know if any NPCs in the main game comment on the destruction of the Long 15 (or the Legion place) afterwards?

Tell me something: are there a lot of skill checks in Lonesome Road? Because I'm maxed in quite a few skills.

It opens up a new area? Coolio

There are maybe five skill checks, all while speaking to the same character over different conversations. I don't think they change much, though.

Edit:
Oh, and there are "faction checks" (I guess that's the best thing to call it). Whatever main faction you have the highest reputation with, you'll have some dialogue options related to them.
