X-Com Daily Report, General McSwine

We have completed research work on the stun bomb launcher. This weapon will allow us to safely capture live aliens without risking exposure for our personnel. It will, however, have to be used sparingly, as the ammunition requires Elerium to manufacture, and has only been captured in limited amounts.

We are currently working on understanding the largest of the aliens' plasma weapons, these are an increasing feature of the battlefield, and will be a major power if we can turn them back against the alien.

X-Com Incident Report, 4th April

Close to midday on the 4th, we detected an uncommonly large UFO heading east at high speed.

We launched everything we had to try and bring it down, but it effortlessly outran our interceptors, eventually landing close to Manila and dropping a squad of troops to attack the population.

The skyranger scrambled immediately to protect civilian lives.

X-Com Battle Report, Terror Mission 3

Once more, our cowardly foe strikes at unarmed civilians. We will not allow them their way. X-Com deploys to meet the invader.

As soon as AceDiamond reaches the foot of the Skyranger ramp, the UCV comes under fire from both sides, it's armour holds against the first few hits, but is eventually overwhelmed, and the vehicle is reduced to scrap.

As per SOP for these situations, Armitage Shanks deploys a smoke grenade from the rear of the Skyranger. Some plasma fire crackles in through the open ramp but splashes against the inner hull harmlessly. Shanks then moves out into the cover of the smoke, spotting a Sectoid* to the east right next to the skyranger. The cybernetically reanimated Cyberoth II exits and, combat implants kicking in for the first time, blasts it with machine precision.

Another Sectoid is spotted in an alley behind the same building.

CAPSLOCK FURY sneaks through the smoke and shoots it through the windows of the building.

Armitage Shanks cautiously moves to the west to identify the source of fire from that side, but we are far from prepared for what he finds, a floating armoured disc like a miniature UFO.

Combined attempts to destroy this with a rocket, but misses, and the rest of the squad disembarks and showers it with laser fire to no effect. The miniature UFO advances, but cannot find any targets through the smoke.

It is spotted again and Combined loads and fires another rocket. Although this is another miss, the rocket kills a sectoid in cover behind the war machine. The rest of the squad open up with more laser fire, and the alien device eventually explodes spectacularly.

Meanwhile, a scout advancing south of the LZ spots another Sectoid in a small park and calls in fire support.

The area is saturated with laser fire, and the alien goes down.

The scouts then advance south along the road, spotting another sectoid in the middle of it.

Sniper fire from Looney drops this one.

Further advancing reveals another alien in the road.

Gamebrain89 ensures this one meets a similar fate to it's comrade.

Another hapless victim is sighted.

The predictable happens.

Meanwhile, a Sectoid to the west throws a grenade at Armitage Shanks, but it's throw falls short.

The alien is spotted by a careful advance.

And Looney takes advantage once again of the Sectoid's decision to attack a wide open space.

Close to the edge of the mission area, another of the floating discs is spotted.

Combined manages to hit this one with a rocket, but it's extreme toughness is demonstrated and it survives.

It exchanges fire with Cyberoth II, but X-Com's finest reanimation technology has the upper hand, and the alien war machine explodes like it's predecessor.

The squad advance to the southeast, and an alien pops out of cover behind a fence, a scout spots it and unloads a stun grenade and it goes down, unfortunately it was holding a live grenade, which explodes and kills it, preventing capture. Another of the floating discs appears above the fence on another side of the same building, but Looney and Gamebrain89 are covering it, and it is blown up.

CAPSLOCK Fury then rounds the corner at the southeast where the last alien came from, and spots another.

He shoots it, and it turns and fires back but the Power Suit proves it's worth and CAPSLOCK FURY is unhurt, he fires again and the final alien dies.

----

Mission Debriefing, General McSwine

We are beginning to see heavier weapons deployed by the alien attacker, and these appear to be fitted with some kind of auto destruct mechanism, as even non-catastrophic damage causes a massive explosion once they are disabled. Our current UCV technology is not up to the task of surviving sustained fire from heavy calibre alien weapons. We must work on improving remote combat technologies.

* OOC Note: After snakemen last mission, I have never been happier to see a Sectoid in my life...

Well, Landstalker didn't have a very good run, but again, better one of our tanks than one of our soldiers. And definetely better than a helpless civilian. I've put in a request to both General McSwine and the head of the SciLab to see if, at the earliest convenience of course, there is any feasible way to apply what we've learned through the research on the alien craft materials to bulk up the armor of the next HWP we requisition.

The mini-UFOs the Sectoids fielded in their attack on Manilla were very interesting, and I was surprised to see them shrug off rocket fire so easily. Pity we couldn't get one intact and reverse-engineer it for our purposes.

It hurts so much to see civilians suffer in this.. I wish I could do so much more. I will not rest until these alien scum are annihilated. Some kind of floating discs appeared this last mission, bringing with them collateral damage of a kind never seen before. What would happen if they invaded my home region? If they endangered Caroline.. and Jenny? I fear for my sanity upon thinking this. I would go mad if I couldn't stop them.. and I shall go mad if that's what it takes to stop them. They must all be destroyed forever, all alien scum.
I shall forsake my reading and all my spare time to spend all of it at the shooting range, combat simulation chambers and self-defence training from now on. They shall know me as the Crusader of their doom.

You found no use for Longshot on the team? Awwww:(

I will add, though, that these are an interesting read. Never seen enything like it before.
Also, UFO seems like a pretty "deep" game, in the sense that there is a lot of aspects to it. What happened to Sim games in our age?

You're in, but there's a significant delay between the game as I play it and as I update it here, so that I have a buffer of updates in case I don't have time to play for a while, so it takes some time for a new name to start showing up.

So I'm a Captain, I gotta say it doesn't feel much different... thats a complete lie, I can't wait to take it out on some R+R ;) (I wonder if it will be better than the holiday in Vegas when I was the 'Earl of South London')

Not sure if we actually get R+R here though, its so different to any other unit that I've been in, even more hush-hush than the parras. Either way spending time round the base with the lads (and ladess) isn't such a bad thing, as fine a bunch as I've ever served with.

Last mission held a few surprises for us, AceDiamond had his tank shot up again, (I'm starting to feel for the poor chap, he must hate knowing the mission is still going and being unable to help out) and I had to roll the smoke down the ramp, but when I got I found the real surprise.
Like an oversized spinning top, some kind of devastating new alien technology. I'm sure it was only coordinated fire and heavy weapons that stopped it from really hurting us. They've sure sent Higs into a zealous frenzy, the mans still down at the range, and we've just got back from the mission.

I can't help but understand him though, and I can only hope those spinning tops aren't too numerous in the alien ranks, or else we'll need something stronger to take them out. Might pop by SciDivision and see whats going on, everyone else seems to these days.

Stiff upper lip,
Captain Shanks

JOURNAL ENTRY - 4/4/99
Jason "Cyberoth" Holt, X-Com

First day back in the field. Buncha grey's decided to shoot up Manila.

The time I spent doing my own firing practice paid off. I nailed a Sectoid, and took out one of their floating tanks. Those things explode like demo charges when they go down too. I went over to SciDiv. The camera in my helmet recorded my firefight with the tank. One of the SciDiv guys (the same one who was interested in those floater mounts) smiled wide. As if floating infantry was scary enough, now he wants Ace to have wings. That sound's like it'll be effective to say the least. I'm worried about what he might try to PUT on his crazy floating tanks though. I should recommend him for a psych evaluation. Or a promotion, I'm not entirely sure which.

No one seemed at all too shocked about the dead guy in the Skyranger. Were they all warned in advance, or was no ne really surprised? I knew Hig knew I was coming back, but no one else seemed at all phased. Odd. Oh well, they all did well, and no one else had to get Lazarus'd.

Ace is taking the loss of his tank pretty well, but terror missions always seem to leave Hig pissed. I'd chat him up, but right now he seems liable to bite my head off.

Shanks made Captain, we all know he deserves it. I hope they don't transfer the man off to another base, it's reassuring to have someone who's been in the Skyranger for a long while nearby. But then again, if he has to go to the other base, it's for the good of us all, I suppose.

I made sure to thank SciDiv for the armor, especially after it kept me and CAPS from having something in common. These guys deserve a raise.

fourth rotation of the moon, fourth turn of the calender.
Fury, CAPSLOCK FURY.

They shot me today. I never though I would get shot, never. After the Tokyo mission where it felt like i single handily annihilated the entire enemy armada (all though I know this is far from the truth, but in the heat of the battle everything gets diluted) I actually started to think i was invincible. And then this. They actually shot me, me, the FURY. I have never been so grateful for science in my life, not just because the laser in my hands punctured the filthy sectoids flesh like a knife through butter, but because the knew armor suit probably saved my life. I could feel everything about it. Every single ounce of power behind the blast as it seared the armor, but I was unharmed. I have to go but all the science boys a beer, they have earned it. Maybe I should get Hig's on it too, he seems kinda shook up.

Shanks and McSlaughter made captain, and Birras has hit colonel. I know they all deserve it, but I can't help but feel like I, the FURY deserve at least some sort of shiny device for all the effort I have been putting in. After all I did almost single handily stop an entire invasion, didn't I?

Beer o'clock is calling. Science labs here I come.

THE FURY OF CAPS OUT.

X-Com Incident Report, 8th January

I had, I admit, been anticipating this the last time we lost a UCV. The aliens return before the new one arrives.

A UFO was detected over Northern Russia, it wasn't moving fast, and was quickly intercepted and shot down. We have to send the field team in without the benefit of armour support.

End Report

----

X-Com Battle Report, UFO Crash Recovery 9

The Skyranger sets down at the north edge of a hilly and densely wooded region of Russia.

Armitage Shanks deploys smoke and the squad disembarks the skyranger under it's cover. A Floater is spotted on the hill to the west of the UFO.

Cyberoth II and Bling Cat II engage it, Bling Cat II scores the killing shot.

As the team disperse, another alien approaches from the south, Armitage Shanks fires a stun bomb at it, but the shot is off target and the alien misses the worst of the blast.

It is disorientated though, and it's own shots pass harmlessly through the squad. Higurashi is not so inaccurate, and the alien goes down.

Climbing the hill to the west, Higurashi sees that there is a gaping hole in the roof of the UFO, and signs of movement inside. Speculative shots are fired into the gloom, and screams from within indicate they found a target.

Report Ends

Mission Debriefing, General McSwine

You don't need me to tell you we got lucky here. If enemy resistance had been stiffer at this UFO site we could well have been preparing for another funeral. As it is, there were no casualties and the operation went smoothly.

YES! That's what I'm talking about! Fucking aliens, they haven't seen the beginning of it. I nailed two of the bastards in today's mission and it felt so good. The lovely Bling Cat II got one as well. It is a true joy to see beauty and lethality combined into one. If I wasn't so busy with my upped training, I would spend more time with her. She's the only thing soothing to me here. But I need nothing else. I live for their destruction now. There is no end to the brutality, so I have to make it part of me. I have to shape myself into a living avatar of death. It never ends, so I shall never stop.

Killed one of the bastards today. Good. Hope that one had family at home too. Show them how that feels. Higs got two as well. Guy seems to be doing good. I hope he advances through the ranks, same as Shanks did. I want to stay on the front line, putting holes in the buggers.

Some of the men seem to be eyeing me. I should have anticipated it I suppose, being one of the only woman soldier on base means I attract a ot of attention. But they really need to learn subtlety. Staring at me like I'm one of the aliens we fight in the field isn't going to win them any favour in my book.

Kent out.

Our first battle sans Ace's cover. I attribute it to one part luck and one part professionalism that no one got shot. I didn't get anymore notches on my rifle, but Higs got 2, Cat got 1, and the Interceptor pilot got at least 2. 5 floating uglies, a scrapped UFO, and a bunch of alien guns, and it only cost a bit of gas. Not a bad trade in my book. Higs is starting to seem a little too enthusiastic. I hope he doesn't get shot. And considering some of the things that were said in the 'Ranger, I get the feeling that leaving Cat alone might be a good idea. I'll have to spread the word to the rest of us.

I hope we have a tank the next time we get deployed, if for nothing else then a first warning about how many aliens can see the exit ramp. Even with smoke, it's unsettling watching a friend walk out into very uncertain surroundings.

The worst part of being a UCV pilot without a UCV is having to relegated to observer status in the command center. I'm starting to understand how the Interceptor pilots must feel after they head back to base, wondering if they did well enough. Only difference being they at least got a chance to draw blood against the aliens.

It was good to see everyone made it back ok though. I worry we won't be so lucky next time. After the Skyranger returned I spent some more time down at the range to calm myself, even though I know it's not going to do me much good.

I just hope the replacement tank gets here before we have to take on something larger.

Very good, this is an amazing read!

So much so i will donate my name, but not as a Soldire. Oh no, it's time some AI was invented. Weapons platform ANTX81 is at your command.

I'll have to see what I can do, I wasn't anticipating deploying a second UCV for some time. You may show up as a robot or something.

X-Com Incident Report, 16th April

In the small hours of the morning, our radar lights up again. An alien vessel is detected over Northern Africa.

After a chase across the Sahara it is forced down in Morocco. The skyranger holds until dawn then lands to recover the crashed vessel.

Report Ends

----

X-Com Battle Report, UFO Crash Recovery 10

The skyranger lands with a good view of the crashed vessel, and AceDiamond immediately spots one of the snake aliens on the UCV's camera.

He rolls down the ramp to get a better firing angle, and christens the new UCV's rocket launcher.

No more aliens were found outside the UFO, which should have been the first sign of trouble, however, standard breaching positions were taken and the team made ready to enter.

A scout entering from the south spotted the crew clustered where the bridge had once been

Armitage Shanks lines up at the other entrance and tags the two of them with a stun bomb. They go down.

Thinking the craft clear, the squad enter and are surprised by another alien moving out of a blind spot at the far side of the UFO. Fortunately, it gets no shots off, Higurashi fires at it wildly but is too surprised to score a hit, but Armitage Shanks draws his laser pistol and does the job.

The squad are a little more alert after this, and when another alien appears from the antechamber to the south of the craft it comes under fire from Higurashi and the other scout, having also drawn his laser pistol. The scout scores the kill shot.

Report Ends

----

Mission Debriefing, General McSwine

This mission marked another instance of luck winning the day for X-Com personnel. Had the aliens inside the UFO been more alert and aggressive, the fight in there would have been much bloodier. We must not fall back into complacency when assaulting alien vessels.

Additionally, we have managed to take three prisoners from this mission, one of the aliens inside the UFO fell unconscious from it's wounds rather than dying, and it is currently in a holding cell awaiting questioning.
