(As an aside: yeah, we all load up our children with our own prejudices and baggage. I think good parenting demands a good-faith effort to teach your kids how to think rather than just what to think.)

And I totally agree, I always hope that my kids (if I ever actually have kids) will feel free to make their own decisions about anything and everything, even if it turns out that their beliefs are the opposite of mine. It seems like children often follow in their parent's beliefs anyway, but the ability to think for themselves and decide that's what they actually want is key.
