Christ, this is going to take me days to download. My internet would have to slow down right when I start a 7gb download.

definitely rolling a Dwarven Guardian when I start though. Why you'd want to play anything but a tank as a Dwarf is beyond me.
We should play together (in a few days, I guess). I'm personally torn between a halfling burglar and a human Loremaster.

It's like... I'm either Gandalf or Bilbo... how am I supposed to choose?!

My download has now sped up significantly. Turns out the Lotro site uses up fucktons of bandwidth. I've never really played an MMO before, aside from copious amounts of the EVE trial, so having someone to play with would be awesome.

As for your current predicament, I have no idea how to solve that. It's like choosing between... actually, nothing else compares to choosing between Bilbo and Gandalf. It's impossible. Unless you can play a Halfling Loremaster. Then you could be Bildalf, or Gando.

I'm so sorry Tolkien.

Depends on how far you're going. If by roleplaying you mean constantly speaking in Elvish or something, then no, no I will not. But I will be trying to give my Dwarf a lore correct name, and will definitely get into things more than is socially acceptable. I will also not be spamming the chat with a clusterfuck of abbreviations and acronyms.

For those interested in role playing, I would like to point out that Landroval is the unofficial RP server. Being unofficial, it's not shown anywhere and there is no special moderation in place, but it does have the most developed RP community and the lions share of in character player events.

FFFFFFF 500kb/s download rate? What is the 90s?

*Goes back to playing Pokemon*
Lucky sod, I'm getting 50kb/s.

I'm not kidding.
I'm averaging about 500 myself and I thought that was bad. If I was getting 50, I think I'd shoot myself. 1 hour 42 minutes left.

It never gets higher than 50, and it consistnetly drops to nothing. It's depressing opening it up and seeing that it'll take 6000 hours to finish.
I'm not really sure what's going on, my internet's usually pretty decent. what's really annoying is that although the download is clearly barely using any bandwidth, standard browsing has slowed to a crawl. I'm having lots of fun.

how far can you actually get in it from what ive heard its pretty low level stuff more like a demo than an actual full game
You can do all the regions of the Shire, Ered Luin, and some other place, and the level cap is the same as it is for the subscribers.
So you can do each races starting zone how much futher can you get moria, helms deep? or is it about where shamus stopped after the bree quests?

I'm downloading it right now. I plan on playing with a couple of friends of mine. I wouldn't have any have given it a passing thought if it wasn't for Shamus Play articles.

Sadly, I am not fluent in the speech of the Fair Folk. But I plan on developing a character, yes.

We shall unite and defeat all before us, brother!

Thank you. I'll be sure to log in there.

Moria and Helm's Deep aren't available even to the subscribers: You have to purchase the expansions to access those (Or, if you ONLY want the zones, you can do microtrans for the zones alone, rather than the zones and classes).

That sounds pretty good fun, actually. I'll give it a shot on that RP'ing server if the download finishes in my lifetime.

I'm pretty sure that the Misty Mountains are available. I wouldn't be quoted on that, however.

All of Eriador is accessible to Free Players (which means basically all of the game world except for Moria, Lorien, and Mirkwood). Moria and Lorien are included in one expansion pack and Mirkwood in another. Of course, while you will be able to access the landscape in Eriador, you will need to purchase area specific Quest Packs to actually quest anywhere outside of Breeland, The Shire and Ered Luin (home to the Dwarves and Elves). The first volume of the Epic questline (aka the main storyline), however, is open to Free Players and will take you all the way to the gates of Moria.

In short, you'll have enough quests as a Free Player to easily get to your mid 20's in level at which point you will have to either pay a little cash to continue questing or just stick to mob slaughtering for your XP gain. Even if you don't pay a cent you'll have a lot of (increasingly dangerous) territory that you can explore.

Shamus did some questing in the Shire and then headed into the Volume 1 storyline. As a free player you'll actually be able to see a lot more of the game than was seen in Shamus's articles. He missed some of the Shire, never went to Ered Luin, never did any of the ton of quests you can get in Breeland, and stopped just at the end of the prologue of the Vol.1 Epic story (which has 15 Books in total, some of which are very long).
