Eh, I might give it a try. Looked good to me.
And I've never been that big on MMOs, so if this doesn't tickle my fancy I won't lose anything.

Crickhollow has a short wait (Around 25) for it now lol

I'll just assume we are all meeting there, someone quote me and tell me if we are not :p

I'll download it when I get to uni. It'll be nice to have a permanent game like that.

Downloading now. I know it's similar to WoW/WoW clone, but I'm in need of something new. I would've downloaded sooner if you could play as the forces of Sauron...

As most of you have probably seen (considering how the Escapist is practically painted with ads for it), Turbine's Lord of the Rings Online has adopted a model similar to that used by their other hit MMO, Dungeons and Dragons Online.

How many of you plan on playing? Are you playing alone, or are you starting out with friends? What race are you fighting for?

And last of all, do you already have a Fellowship planned? If not, maybe we should get an Escapist group together and beat back the forces of Sauron.
This could be an idea, I may try it.

I'm finally downloading at broadband speeds now, so I should be up and running soonish. Once I am, I'll make sure my Dwarf makes his home in Crickhollow.
I will roll my Loremaster in Crickhollow as well.

You know, I guess I'll play again. Why not.

I wonder what happens to preexisting characters though.

Well, you sort of can. If you're a subscriber you can play PvMP (or Player VS Monster Player). For some reason it's not a feature Turbine is planning to sell piece meal like many of the other features, but in PvMP you can play as Sauron's forces against players with their regular player characters in a large battlefield (The Ettenmoors) separate from the normal game world.

Yeah, it was pretty cool, but I never really tried it when I played the game before. Maybe it was because the Ettenmoors was pretty quiet on the server I was on.

Wow. I didn't even notice the ads on here. I guess I'm great at blocking ads out in my mind.

I don't know. How does it differ from other MMOs? Games like WoW and City of Heroes/Villains are extremely dull.
It's very much in the WoW style, just without the cartoony graphics and with a much bigger focus on the lore and the storyline. I'd love to say it's totally different than any other MMO out there (rawr!!!1!) but it's really not outside of the setting and attention to detail. Oh, and the community in LOTRO is widely recognized as one of the best you'll ever find so even if the gameplay doesn't excite you are going to be dealing with a much friendlier and more mature crowd than you'll find elsewhere.

I'm thinking I'll download it tonight. I really don't like the list of things free players don't get when compared to paying users. But, I'll still try it out.

Turbine are planning some upgrades to the Moors in the near future, though they haven't given any real details yet. They've also said they are working on some way to get it more stable for very large groups of players (which is the reason they've given for not allowing Free players free access). Right now, though, I would say the Moors are probably relatively slow on every server outside of the hardcore PvMP groups. Get in with them, though, and you're golden.

That list of stuff looks like free players get crap, but I feel like I am playing a fully fleshed out game on the free account. They just want to scare you into paying XD

I'm downloading it now but why does it say I need a product key?
It said that to me, too, but it never prompted me to type it in. Don't worry about it. I think you need it if you're using a paid account but not for a free one.

The installers pretty rubbish it says my download speed is 4088kb/s but based on how fast the Mbs are going up its closer to 296kb/s so its estimate of half an hour is abit off but its not rechecking its just changeing the timer really slowly

One thing to keep in mind is that while Free players do start out with very little in terms of perks, all you have to do to move up to the next tier of service is spend at least a little money on the game. A one month subscription for $15 or, even cheaper, a $6 purchase of Turbine Points (or whatever the minimum point stack you can purchase costs) bumps your account up to Premium level permanently. Just being at Premium gives you a higher gold cap, more character slots, swift travel access, etc.
