Oh for frack's sake! This is just milking it!

Also, the movies weren't shot with proper 3D equipment, meaning they CAN'T look good in 3D. I'm sorry, they just can't. So if you want to watch a crappy 3D version of Star Wars, go right ahead...

If Lucas Arts wanted to make a 3D Star Wars movie, they should just go and make a 3D Star Wars movie. They could also do their Gritty Reboot at the same time, since it's long overdue for the franchise... :p

As long as plot revisions are kept the same as they have been before (please god NO MORE! Haven't you done enough?) I'm pretty cool with the idea... as long as the 3d is decent... but it's Lucas, if he can do nothing else right he can do special effects.

That's it, the man is officially fucking insane. Why would any rational, sane, human being want to watch some of the worst dialogue ever committed to film, in glorious (half arsed) 3D!? Fans of the series largely hated the prequels, and those who weren't thought they were mediocre at best - either way nobody came out of the theatre thinking that their wallet hadn't just been sodomised.

Let's break it down now: the action is over the top, the acting is horrible, the dialogue is dreadful, the plot invariably makes no sense and you get to watch all this in fucking 3D, which isn't even true 3D, for double the price of standard admission!

I am of course only talking about the prequels, the original trilogy is a sci-fi masterpiece, but there's no way in hell movies made between 25 and 30 years ago are going to transition well into 3D. Star Wars (don't call it A New Hope) barely had any action scenes except for the escape from and assault on the Death Star, so there's no fucking point in making that one 3D!

it's a re-release. Wait. He released them originally, then the remastered, which where the re-release, and then this is the 3d version of the remastered, so it's a re-re-release of the star wars movies.

This is the kind of news that can leave a Star Wars fan conflicted. On the one hand, the movies have been tinkered with a lot already, and 3D isn't going to make Han not shooting first any less infuriating. But on the other hand, it's a chance to see the movies in theaters again, which is always exciting.
If you own, or know a friend with a home theater setup, this point is moot. Upconverting the DVDs onto my 84" screen beats stuffing George Lucas' pockets with more unearned cash. So no thanks. =P

I wouldn't mind seeeing the movies again in the theater... In a non 3d screen, of course. And really, you have a whole Expanded Universe for new stories, financial backing that pretty much everything Star Wars turns to gold, and still Lucas chooses to do this instead. I don't know if this is more of a commentary on Lucas' stubornness or on Starwars' fanbase resistance to change.

Amen to that, brother. Now, if they released a version where they restored the true order of things, then yeah, maybe.

Also, George, the parsec as a unit of time? That's where you lost all your credibility. Less than a quarter of the way through the movie.

If they manage to give Hayden Christiansen's performance any Depth it'll be a miracle.

[HEADING=2]ZING![/HEADING]

OT: I'm padding out the rest of this post so I don't get in trouble for low-content posting. I figure, if I can at least stretch out this explanation to about as long as a paragraph (perhaps longer, I can't say for certain just yet), I should be alright. But then again, this might be taken as a passive-aggressive swipe at the moderators; if there is any doubt of this, let me reassure you, that is not my intent. In fact, pretty much every one of the moderators on this site is awesome, so the only reason I'm bothering to cover my ass is because I've seen more than a few people get hammered for the infraction I'm attempting to avoid committing, and I'm pretty sure everybody's record is permanent (which is important to me, because I seem to recall having a fairly lengthy record). Wait, crap, I just realized that this could be considered off-topic posting, so here's something about the topic: it's a pointless cash-in that is unlikely to improve the originals, to say nothing of the nigh-irredeemable prequels*.

*[sub]I actually don't hate the prequels, but I figure it's just safer to go with the flow around here. Besides, it's good for my geek-cred.[/sub]

Wow, I have never seen a director hate his own franchise this much before...
