I'm seeing a lack of Ozzy Osbourne in this thread. It makes me sad.
I saw him live last November in Vancouver. It was nothing short of FUCKING awesome.
Yeah I noticed that too, I just didn't feel like saying anything since there are a ton of bands that I've never heard of, I'm part of the problem. He did a book signing months ago near where I live and I go to meet him then, awesome man and really nice, odd words since he is the Prince of Darkness.

I listen to a combination of Power, Symphonic, Gothic, and Melodic Death with a bit of heavy metal and NDH thrown in here and there.

GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!!!! Seriously, exactly my taste. love some Children Of Bodhem and Dethklok (although Dethklok is really just one guy, not a real band) not to mention FinnTroll

Don't know what the hell is wrong with me, how could I forget to mention At The Gates, definitely my favorate.

Lady Gaga...

Nah in all seriousness: Nightwish. Before Tarja left.

Oh and Black Label Society.

Primordial is a Black Metal band out of Ireland and just plain fucking awesome. A good song by them is "Traitors Gate" from the "To The Nameless Dead Album." I also like classic Thrash Metal (Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth) and some NWOBHM. The reason I like metal is it seems to be the one of the only genre who sees the world as the brutish, ugly place that it is. Theirs my spiel, enjoy.

There is a lot of black metal on this which i can listen to i little bit but i guess i'm a pussy cause i can't really handle it. I like classic metal the most bands like iron maiden, metallica, motar head those sort of bands but i do enjoy other heavy metal like bullet and slipnot but i don't really get that heavy. I like iron maiden the most. I like them because of how tallented the whole band is and not just the lead guitarist. I like how the race at the beggining and the end but throught the middle they slow down. They constantly experementing with dinamics, tempo and key areas other bands fear of dwelling into. Metallica is proberly next on my list for all the soft finger picking songs and the drumming in the heavy songs.
Slipknot isn't heavy metal, not by a LOOOOOOONG shot.
Yes they are. But they're not death/black/whatever. They're just...metal
Don't quote me on this but I'm pretty sure that Slipknot are Nu Metal.

My interest in metal goes as far as 80's hair metal. Most modern metal just sounds like noise to me I'm afraid.

Also, endow means giving something as in literally giving something from one person to another.
i do mean literally give me metal songs and bands...and 80s hair metal doesnt belong here
No you don't mean that at all. You mean tell you about songs and bands. I'd have to go out and find a band and hand them over to you in order to endow you with a band.

And yes it's been made clear that glam metal like Motley Crue, and Ozzy Osbourne isn't welcome here already.
giving "on the internet" means posting last time i checked, thank you for correcting me though...and i like ozzy, it just doesnt belong in here im afraid.
Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin were two of the bands that created heavy metal.

The Ramones sound like a bubblegum pop group compared to punk bands like The Dead Kennedys and Lars Frederikson and The Bastards. Doesn't mean they're not punk.

Yeah, but you don't now have or own the bands or songs, so they weren't endowed to you. You know them.
the ramones song "wart hog" was more punk than dead kennedys and that guy from rancid combined.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFUIOXbv0tQ
this is the most punk things got before chumbawamba/butthole surfers
Trust me, I'm familiar with the entire Ramones discography. They were my favourite band all throughout my teens. Too Tough To Die is my favourite Ramones album. But their first few albums don't sound like modern day punk, which is the point I was making, the genre may have evolved but the early stuff at the birth of punk still counts as punk.
punk hasn't "evolved" in the same way, say, jazz evolved from bebop to present. with every hamfisted "youth crew" and "whatever-core" movement that pops up, i die a little inside.

I hesitate to call Slipknot Nu Metal because they don't fit the genre compared to other Nu Metal bands. I'd say they're a bit too aggressive, although that's not really a genre-defining characteristic. I still wouldn't call them Nu Metal, I'd say they are more just straight up heavy metal.

I wouldn't call them straight up Heavy Metal because Heavy Metal is stuff like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, and if you listen to a song from whichever of these bands, and then listen to a song from Slipknot, you'll see that there's a big difference.

Also, I'm not sure what would classify as Nu Metal, Linkin Park? Limp Bizkit? Rage Against the Machine? Static-X?

Iron maiden is 80's speed metal, which is shit btw. As for Judas Priest and Sabbath, I can't say I have extensive knowledge of either, but as far as modern straight up heavy metal goes, Slipknot fits it for me.

Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit are lame-wannabe-metal-but-still-wannabe-soft-so-the-teenage-chicks-will-love-us. That stuff has no merit. Rage isn't metal at all, more like hard rock and rap. Never heard of static-x. No, I'd say Nu Metal is stuff like Korn and some early Disturbed, but I thought that was the general consensus on the genre. I don't really have an in-depth knowledge of popular metal bands, I can't stand most of them

Wait, wait, wait. Speed Metal? I seriously haven't heard anyone categorize Iron Maiden as Speed Metal. It's always been New Wave of British Heavy Metal.

Ah yes, I forgot about Korn and Disturbed. I'll agree with you on that one, also, I'll have to admit myself that my knowledge on "Metal Theory" is rather limited.

This metal is not metal. It's retarded maladjusted teenagers with too much distortion. I don't know how they got in their parent's make up closet, but it sure isn't helping with public perception. Not to mention that they should have spent all the money they used to buy skulls and 8 crappy ESPs to buy actual guitar lessons.

tl;dr Radiohead is better than any crappy black/death/grind/goat-sacraficing/trying-too-hard/power metal will ever be.
is your name a reference to the prefab sprout song? if so, high five.
