Let's separate between two things here: There is this guy, and there are scalpers in general:
This guy is a troll and that video is fake. Mariotheplumber is just a persona that this guy uses to express his criticism and troll people. He already put an apology video for what he did over the last couple of years and said that he's going to stop posting videos using that persona. Nobody is going to create a shortage of a certain type of amiibos by buying them all. Nobody is that stupid and petty and at the same time rich.
Scalpers in general aren't doing such things to annoy you. You're not a concern to them one way or the other. All they see is a good business opportunity. When a product has more demand than supply, some people are smart enough to see it coming and take initiative to make a nice profit. Nintendo can always mass-manufacture more amiibos and Sony can always mass-manufacture gray PS4s. If they chose not to do so, maybe it's worth considering whether or not you should buy their products in the future.
You're kind of coming off like you are defending this guy....and scalpers. Sony could mass manufacture those gray PS4s yes. Even though I think its annoying I'd side more with them making a limited supply than the evil people snatching them up and then reselling them at a profit. Collector's and limited editions of stuff have been around since fan culture got big and its not going away. I don't expect it too. Yes its kind of lame that it means not everyone will have the ability to have one but not everybody wants one either. I've stated before either here or elsewhere that scalpers are some of the worst human beings in the world because their "business decision" deprives someone else of something I think is very important, joy.
Depriving someone else of their joy or excitement simply to make a quick buck is one of the worst crimes you could commit in the civilized world to me. Maybe someone knew it was coming and managed to save up $500 for that PS4 just to try and get one. Then they get sold out and see several being sold on ebay for $1000+ from the same person. Now they don't have the money to buy it and don't see the purpose in spending that much money on a piece of entertainment.
As for the amiibo guy I really don't care one way or the other. I wouldn't underestimate the pettyness of people. Some people are pretty dang pathetic on the web. I also don't care if he apologized or not. He was basically doing the same thing scalpers were doing, or at least implying to do, except he wasn't even going to sell them back and as we've established before I have no love for anyone doing such things. Take away or even imply to try and take away someone elses' joy and you have no sympathy from at all or ever will.
