Yeah... Except, No.

Anime is a great medium that sure beats movies and western animation made by certain people in delivering it's idea. I'm not saying it's all good, but if all your knowledge about anime comes from shit like Naruto/Pokemon and other shows they tend to show in North America, after completely butchering whatever good was in those shows in the first place, then really, your opinion means nothing.

Grave of Fireflies. That's a fucking masterpiece. Incredibly sad and dramatic, based on a fictious novel about the end of WW2 in Japan.

And just about any movie by Studio Ghibli, especially with Hayao Miyazaki. Nausicaa, Mononoke, Spirited Away, Laputa. These things are masterpieces.
Oh I thought we were talking series. I love Miyazaki. Spirit Away and Princess Mononoke were classics, and no my opinion does not mean nothing. My opinion means exactly the same as it did before. Disagreeing with my opinion does not make it worthless.

By my avatar you can tell that I like Gurren Lagann.
The following are anime that I've been watching recently:
Hellsing Ultimate
Gurren Lagann
Code Geass
Dragon Ball Z
Yu Yu Hakusho
One Piece
Bleach
Death Note

Manga I've been reading:
Hellsing
One Piece(my favorite)
DBZ
Zombie Powder. I feel as if I need to go off on a tangent about this one. It's not well known even though it is the first manga from Tite Kubo, the creator of Bleach. I've read one volume and it's very good. Sadly there are only four volumes and it is currently an unfinished series.
I borrowed Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles from a friend and it's pretty good.

I know what you mean, I went through the same thing. Code Geass is definitely an anime a recommend.

While there are some of the well-known anime that I'd recommend already being named (like Full Metal Alchemist, Death Note and Trigun), one I haven't seen mentioned yet is Welcome to the NHK. It's adultish, but I found it quite humorous and the characters quite... believable, yet interesting. Though, I do have a thing for psychology and dark humour, so you like a sort of 'regular anime' (meaning that the series isn't future-y or fantasy, but based in real life), I recommend Welcome to the NHK.

Edit: Kajin, can you guess my avatar?

My tastes range from Azumanga Daioh (manga and anime) for slice of life comedy, NOIR and Cowboy Bebop for action, Lupin the 3rd for classics, and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure for something different.

Manga-wise, I just got into Golgo 13 and Uzumaki (nothing to do with a certain orange-clad ninja who won't shut up) now that my bookstore actually has them now.

So you're saying that if someone's opinion is so blatantly wrong like for example "Jews are inferior and should be killed!", they are still entitled to it?

Bad examples aside, sure, opinion is opinion. But saying something like "Hur if you're over , <insert media/specific example>, then just no" is just blatantly stupid. There are millions of people enjoying things that aren't made for their demographic. And, secondly, there is clearly statistical evidence that people do, in fact, like it.

It would be like me saying "Twilight is shit and nobody likes it" (And that technically speaking is pretty much my opinion about it) but while it's an opinion, it's not a valid point because statistics show that it does indeed have a huge fanbase, however horrible it may be.
Okay my opinion could have been a little less ultimate and I you're right, except for using the nazi example XD I'm not that extreme.

No point in arguing over this.

And I think I share your opinon on Twilight.

Death Note is a must-see/read even if you hate anime and manga. The story is just brilliant.
I'd never watched an anime or manga, but I got really into Death Note (due to the films admittedly).
I'd recommend that, if nothing else. The story's just epic...

I'd throw in some recommendations, but all I've really seen is Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh, and I don't think those really count...
Van Von Hunter's one of the few manga's I've read, and falls into the even smaller number of mangas I've actually enjoyed.

for great anime watch anything by studio ghibli
here's a list
1) Princess Mononoke
2) Spirited Away
3) Howl's Moving castle
4) My Neighbour Totoro
5) Grave of the Fireflies
Correction:
1) Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (although it's technically pre-Ghibli)

>_>

Moving on...

Cyborg 009 (1979 version)
Personally I see this series as far superior to the more recent one. It follows up after the death of the original Black Ghost, where mysterious individuals claiming to be gods of Norse mythology appear, and meanwhile the Neo Black Ghosts prepare to strike...

Gantz (manga/anime)
A strange man/machine saves people at the time of their deaths and let them fight aliens in order to win their lives back. Lots of gore. The manga is a lot longer than the anime, and in my opinion the anime sort of goes bad at the end...

* * *

But, hey, why limit yourself to anime/manga? Try some tokusatsu:

Kamen Rider Kiva
Kurenai Wataru is a young man who lives alone in his family home. His father died before he was born, and his mother abandoned left him many years ago. Wataru's only friends are the 14-year-old girl Shizuka, whom he teaches the art of playing the violin, and mechanical-looking talking bat creature called Kivat Bat the 3rd. But when the bloodthirsty creatures known as the Fangire (fang + vampire) return, Wataru uses the power of his companion Kivat to transform into Kamen Rider Kiva (Masked Rider Fang(s)).

Kamen Rider Kabuto
Some years ago a meteorite struck down in Shibuya, and brought with it a race of shapeshifting insect creatures known simply as "Worm". To combat this threat, the organization ZECT has developed a line of "Masked Rider Systems", controlled by artifical ingelligences known as Zecters. However, it doesn't take long until ZECT realize that they can't control who the Zecters choose as their masters...

Berserk is pretty good, more so as a manga though.

A lot of manga/anime are pretty terrible, but they get popular anyway.

If you judged all cartoons by dora the explorer your opinion on cartoons would be worthless. If you judged all movies by ....anything made by uwe boll your opinion would be useless. If you judged all porn on 2 girls 1 cup your opinion would be useless.
