I'll echo the sentiment of those recommending Fullmetal Alchemist, Trigun and Bebop.

Another one I've really enjoyed for it's strong storytelling and well-developed characters is The Twelve Kingdoms. It's on a hiatus till the author of the original novels writes more, but what's been done already is well worth watching even if they were to never finish it.

I read Parasyte. . . It was fairly good and it had a nice ending.

My personal love is "Baki-Son of the Ogre" Or any of the other Baki series.

Well guys, I'm sitting here day in day out, I dont want to finish my college work, so what do I find myself doing alot...watching anime, or reading manga. I dont know, I just do this in my free time to waste the hours, although I have a deadline in 3 weeks for all work. So I was going to ask, what anime's do you watch? What's your opinions on today's anime? What manga's do you read? Do you read them? iI not why not? I suppose I just want to find something new and fresh, that maybe, I haven't already seen or heard about so I dont have to be bored s**tless day in day out. Because we all know I'm not going to do that work.
For manga, my favorites at the moment are Ubel Blatt, Akumetsu, Ga-Rei, and Holyland

I haven't watched any anime in ages though, so aside from the standard "must watch" like Trigun, there's not much I can put in there.

Well the anime genre I don't really like but if Death Note wasn't anime I would really like that.
Ask and ye shall receive.
Wow, thanks man!
Not a problem. The movie is actually pretty darn good (I was especially impressed with how Ryuk's almost picture perfect, without looking ridiculous). I haven't seen the last two, so I can't comment on them.

Besides, depending on one's reaction to certain events in the anime or manga, the fact that

L outsmarts Light and wins in the movie continuity (not saying how)

might be appealing to that particular character's fans.

Hellsing manga or ultimate.
Fullmetal Alchemist manga or new anime. I thoroughly detest the original anime.
Kuroshitsuji anime is pretty weird and ammusing.
One Piece manga only. I can't stand the anime.
Code Geass anime both seasons is epic beyond epic!
Elfen Lied manga.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned any of the Mobile Suit Gundam series yet. Personally I liked the 8th Mobile Suit Team the best. Hellsing, Berserk, Rurouni Kenshin, FLCL, Ergo Proxy are some others I would recommend.

It's all rubbish. Don't waste your time with any of it.

The only semi-good stuff is Miyazaki's stuff and even some of that's borderline (like Kiki's Delivery Service - urgh). The rest is all 100% garbage, characterised by lazy animation techniques, sloppy storytelling, rampant sexism and cliche upon cliche upon cliche. People only talk themselves into liking it because for some reason westerners are obsessed with Japanese culture. It's a pity westerners are mainly only interested in the crappier parts of said culture like anime, and not the good stuff like Merzbow and No Theatre. Oh well.

First: (No) Anime over 26 episodes will be good. They are for promoting crap to children. There are a few execeptions (Full Metal Alchimist, maybe Rurouni Kenshin)

Every few years a REALLY good Anime will be produced. It is very hard to find them, you have to watch a lot of crap to get them *g*.

My list (yeah i repeat much of the shows already mentioned)
Must see:
Cowboy Bebop, Gungrave (yeah first episode is crap but then it is a work of art), Berserk (if you are a MAN *g*). Maybe Avatar (Yes i know it is American... but who cares?) Maybe Death Note

Can be cool:
Hellsing, Trigun, Code Geass, Rurouni Kenshin (OVA is very good), Ghost in the Shell: Stand alone Complex, Full metal Panic: Fumoffu... And many, MANY more

what i love about anime is, that it can be really weird, or be really... normal and still be made. Hollywood wouldn't think about producing something which would be so "risky".

I once saw a series about a bartender, who always knew what kind of drink a person would need. Really... it just showed normal people with a problem. They entered the bar, got their drink and then they would remember something, or relax and so defeat their inner demons, or think their life over. And that's it. Think such a show could be made somehow else than in an Anime?

and to be a bit more helpful:

very good site

Hellsing (dubbed or subbed, I prefer dub)
Hellsing Ultimate(I highly recommend the dub)
FMA (Everyone says the dub is awesome and I've never watched it subbed so...)
Death Note (Dubbed or subbed)
Soul Eater (subbed unless the funimation dub is magically good)
Code geass (subbed)
Bleach (subbed)
also I'd suggest watching Hellsing ultimate last since it's the shortest incomplete one at 5 OVAs (the equivelent to 10 or 15 eps) At the moment.
