Hm, seems they're running out of people to go shoot children for fun. Occasionally doing something right. (Before critisizing, check internets.)
Wow. Nice job completely disrespecting and devaluing an entire group of people.

Also as a fun fact, 230,000 bullets are fired for every insurgent killed.
You ever fired a real gun? They're not pinpoint accurate, especially not on "rock-n-roll"
Look at some of the articles, or watch the vid. Those were the real points.
Oh I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying that you really shouldn't be surprised. I mean hell, weren't we at some godawful number like 1.2 tons of explosives and napalm for every VC killed? These numbers just aren't surprising. Real life isn't like CoD. Guns have recoil and you can't just snipe someone with any old gun. It takes lots and lots of marksman training to get something like 1 kill per 100 rounds.

The bullets thing was there just as a representation of the "effectiveness" of the war in Afghanistan. And ever heard of a "bad apple"? This time, it's the whole orchard. Also, sorry that I can't be a millitary buff.
That is actually quite effective considering how warfare is fought in Afghanistan. Trust me, these men are excellent shots and if they have a clear line of sight - they'll hit you. They just seldom do have a clear line of sight. These guys are hit from kilometres away and all they have to go by is sound and vague human instinct.

Oh, and your evidence for the "whole orchard" being bad is....what? We are just supposed to take your word for it? You clearly don't even understand how firefights work, so why should any of us believe you?

For every biased, sensationalist article you can dig up about a US serviceman killing innocent people I can dig up a hundred more about US soldiers displaying incredibly acts of bravery and compassion. What the fuck do you think happens over there when innocents are in trouble? A fairy comes in and cleans everything up? No. Soldiers go in and clean up the mess. They do a job and they do it damn well most of the time. Yes there are mistakes. Yes, there are horrible losses of life. It's a war.

The fact you can dig up an article about a marine killing an innocent person clearly because of a mental illness or PTSD (which is what the members of the kill team had) means nothing mate. Absolutely nothing. All you are saying is "these few people are messed up and do incredibly evil things". Thanks Captain Obvious!

I can show you articles of Firefighters killing innocent people. Of school teachers molesting their students. Does this blatant and shameless sensationalism in any way reflect the real work that most firefighters and teachers do everyday? Would it then be fair of me to say that firefighters, by nature, kill innocent people? Or that all teachers do all day is sit around and molest kids?

No. All that would do is make me look like a bastard.

My two brothers are soldiers and because of this, I know many soldiers quite well. They are just the same as any other profession. There are some bad eggs, but most of them are incredibly nice people who go above and behind every single day. They do their bit. To imply that all they do is "shoot innocent children" because you read a horribly biased article in the Rolling Stone with a clear political agenda does not give you the right to disrespect everyone within their profession.

Think. Please.

I'm sorry if this comes across as a bit aggressive of insulting, but I don't like to see an entire group of people generalised and labelled because of 0.1% of them who do fucked up things.

edit: Could some of the veterans on the Escapist come to my aid here and explain to this person what common sense is?

Hello community. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think the military is trying too hard? Why does the US even need more Marines? I want to know what we think.
The adverts are effective. Now you know that the Marines want recruits. And now the publisher club members know it, too.

3. In today's warfare, most of the time you can't see where the enemy is coming from. They are usual kilometers away. This is what a firefight in Afghanistan looks like from a soldiers perspective: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBd8Fl6gGdI . But yeah, you'd be able to nail them all in one shot - wouldn't you? Insurgents ambush, fire and maneuver extremely well. They have been fighting for ten years. They know the terrain, the know the line of fire and they know exactly how to remain hidden. They don't walk up to soldiers and fire from 100 metres away in plain line of sight.

The thing about Marines is that A. The US currently has tons of soldiers abroad and B. they sometimes die during their job meaning that they are always looking to recruit more people.

Some gamers who play military games could potentially find the idea of join the military exciting so the advertising seems logical. Not to mention the guys who are sitting on their butts needing something to do with their lives besides games who might be interesting in the military.

Ugh good. Someone who doesn't understand how war is fought!

1. "The Kill Team" were Army. Not Marines. Completely different branch. Marines are in the navy. Army are in the.... army.

2. Even if the "The Kill Team" were Marines - it proves nothing. They are a small portion of people that do no represent the real ongoings, actions or thoughts of the Marine Corps or the US Army. For every Marine that hurts an innocent person, there are five that risk their lives every day to save innocent people.

Look, I'm far from a military buff in fact, I've had a lot of disagreement with what a lot of the military is doing. HOWEVER, I find it VERY disrespectful to lump an entire group of people as "Bad' being a German I've been called "A Nazi, murdered... Blah blah blah." I don't deny that the Nazi's were evil, but you need to notice who the actual baddies are. Simply lumping all of them together and saying the lot is rubbish, you should say that the certain individuals who do those despicable things are rubbish.

I think people on the whole are intelligent enough to decide for themselves. If your willpower is that weak then let's face it, you're doomed anyway.

I have no problem with it. Although I question the logic considering that, i'd guess, less than half this site's user base is American.
Way less, last time someone did a poll there was only about 30% or so. There are people from the UK then America on this site.

The marines are surprisingly picky on who they recruit. My sisters boyfriend (who attends Virginia Military Academy, 4.0, and peak physical condition) was rejected because he had surgery on his knee from a bad rugby accident. I think they recruit so much because maybe they just select so few.

I'm gonna have to take your word for it that these exist, because I haven't seen any around the site at all. Then again, I've already enlisted in the Navy, so I could just be automatically blocking out the ads for all the other branches...
