I would be ashamed if anyone on EscapistMagazine would consider anything supernatural.

This isn't the first time the bird thing happened. Burnie the head of Rooster Teeth, the guys that make RedvsBlue, made a journal entry about this happening like 3 or 4 years ago when they were looking for a new office.

Tis likley man-made disease testing, seeing what kind of effects it has before they release it on humanity. Gotta bring the population to under 500 mil without being obvious somehowm so what better way than a plague. Plagues are known to be powerful, rember the bubonic plague in the medieval days that took out more than 1/3rd of all people?
It was largly just 1 single species dying in mass, so the virus was obviously a targeted virus.
That or they all played Kane & Lynch 2.

Why not? Seems fairly Revelation-esque, and a good chunk of us are Christian (GASP! ON MY FORUM?!)

Well in that case, it's a pretty shitty plague, considering that no one has died from touching the birds or fish yet.

I'm a little worried. This is far from natural and I refuse to dismiss all the occurrences around the world as coincidence. I don't know what it is exactly, but it can't be good. I won't truly be freaked out until an entire town of people suddenly drops dead, however.
However, things like these have happened before around the World, due to a sudden drop of temperature or lack of food. I think it was last year that thousands of fish washed up on New Zealand and the coast of somewhere in South America. These types have things have happened before, and that's why the Governments are saying it's a coincidence.

OP: It's probably nothing, still an interesting story to keep up with. Freaky.

EDIT: Woo Hoo! Thousandth Post! I'd like to take this opportunity to say that you're all awesome, Escapist. <3

really the big question is. Is this something that is really happening? (given the news tendency to blow things out of proportion) Is this new? Are these related? (its totaly possible that these are unrelated and we are just assuming they are related because we are noticing them at the same time)

The world is not ending. Or would you prefer to wear a tin foil hat?

Not that far from natural, one of the things in that article said that they have fish deaths around that area every year, just that there were more this year.

I think it's funny, it's like the aliens are playing a prank, watching from their UFO's and going "Look at those fucking stupid Earthlings thinking the world is ending! lolololololololol!"

Didn't you hear? For each animal that has died, a streak of purple light as hot as the core of the sun has appeared streaking toward earth at 1.25x the speed of light heralding our imminent deaths.

IT'S TRUE!

Some people say it's HAARP related. I'm not big on conspiracy theories but this is too weird. It's logical to say that it could be a secret government experiment. Until we know more I'm not accepting or denying any possibilities.

People were blaming a fault line in the ocean for the deaths of the fish, which could make sense.

Now that you mention it there are millions of dead birds littering the eastern beaches of Australia. However I am told they were migrating from New Zealand and the weak ones that couldn't make it simply fell into the water and washed ashore. Perhaps unrelated.

In Sweden we've had some of these bird killings, the papers say that supposedly have died from blunt hits on their body that have destroyed their insides but on the outside they look perfectly fine, that doesn't really add up, sounds a bit like biological warfare to me...

So it turns out what I said earlier in jest is actually correct: the bird deaths aren't anything out of the ordinary, it's just that the birds are landing in cities rather than the wilderness. Here's a relevant article on the matter [http://www.boingboing.net/2011/01/06/bird-expert-dont-wor.html]. Basically, it happens all the time, we just don't get to hear about it. I read somewhere that there have been almost 100 group animal deaths in the last 6 months. So really, not that uncommon.
