Namely run off from the land affecting the seas (Agri run-off can cause dead zones by causing large Algae blooms which block out light, killing off plant life beneath the surface. The algae then dies off when the nutrients run out and also start rotting which de-oxygenates massive areas, killing other sea life).
Second thoughts, the whole world has pretty much had a lot of rain/snow which is now melting, so maybe it's not just Oz that would be concerned about it.
Like many things in the 'wide world' though, it is probably a vast combination of things all contributing in their own partial way.
