I can't share everyone else's Zaeed hate. He doesn't do/say anything after the loyalty mission, so I can only say I really, really don't care about him...
Favourite characters? I was going to say Mordin and Thane, but having unlocked Legion earlier today (What? So I'm playing the game slowly... I have too many other things to do atm!), I'm definitely liking him! Although I have an awful feeling that I've inadvertently brought the endgame on, and a great many of my characters are going to die. Horribly. So it's time to go back to the save I made just before the mission where you get Legion...

I liked all of the characters, even the ones I didn't like. for example I really didn't like Miranda but not because I thought she was a bad character. I disliked her personality which means she had a developed enough personality to make me dislike her. I found all of the characters to bee interesting at the very least. the only character I found uninteresting was zaeed but he was an expansion anyway.

Favorite is a toss up between Garrus and Thane.
As for my most hated, Jack, by far. Her character is just annoying, irritating, and I really dislike her in general. She knows she's a badass so she goes around with a cocky attitude.

This actually why I dislike Garrus in Mass Effect 2 I spent all of Mass Effect convincing him that his methods were wrong. Eventually Garrus began to consider what I was saying. I changed his outlook on how to carry out missions. He said he was going to go back to C-Sec and reapply for Spectre training. That made me happy, since it actually felt like I had made a difference in his character development.Xzi said:

I was very disappointed when I found him in Omega, and even more when I learned that he was consumed by revenge. It's like everything I said to him was ignored. This bothers me. Jacob doesn't have a real personality, he's too bland to evoke any emotions in you, let alone hate.

Mordin because he's hilarious and quirky but chillingly efficient at the same time, killing his old student with only a brief amount of regret to show for it. Garrus because, well, he's awesome, laid-back (except during his loyalty mission) and because the romance dialog with him is cute and funny.
Second place ties between Tali and Legion. Tali because she's friendly and I love her voice acting, and her romance dialog is cute and heartwarming. Legion because they're a really interesting take on the whole robot civilization idea. And yes, they do the robot.
Third place ties between Thane and Zaeed. While still rather cliche for an assassin, I really did like how reserved he was. I seem to be the only person that likes Zaeed, which saddens me. Yes, he's a cliche and a half, yes, he's a bastard, but that's what makes him so fun! And he does have a moderately human side if you talk to him on a couple of occasions (Jack's mission, to name one.)
Indifferent: Grunt, Samara, Jack, and Jacob. Krogan are fun but I've never been fond of the barbaric warrior races, Samara is just a blue paladin, and Jack... Was cool, but didn't really do anything for me. Though I'm glad her alternate costume gave her a shirt. Sheesh. As for Jacob... Meh. His loyalty mission was fun and interesting, but there wasn't a lot of character behind him. It didn't help that he seemed really oddly proportioned, too. His head and torso seemed cartoonishly inflated compared to the rest of his body.
Hated: MIRANDA. She's a smug goddamn *****. Also, Morinth for killing us artsy people. And Shepard, in one scene.

Oh I have a question too. I don't know if there is a simple answer to this or if someone has asked it already but, Why when I take Legion onto the Citadel no one says a damn thing or tries to shoot it?

Garrus is pretty awesome due to the whole "We settled it in her quarters...I had reach, she had flexibility" quote. Thane is just sooo badass and Legion was intriguing. I don't like late into the game legion shows, it was kind of disappointing and then mission after next he dies in my game.Strategy wise I was kind of sad, as my main play through I was an Infiltrator and all three listed are snipers, I used thane just for the Biotics. I was so pissed when I got legion and thane killed.
Miranda is up there but only because I'm a huge Chuck fan and Yvonne whats-her-name is hot (though they gave her mild case of the man-face with miranda). Mordin is pretty badass but I only used him for one mission. Jacob was very dissappointing. Jake was a ***** (I laughed when I got her killed). Zaeed is a douche. I wanted him to die when he got trapped under the pillar. Grunt was interesting, and was a good back up to my Infiltrator. Samara was little more than the boob lady, I really didn't have much interest in exploring her all that much.
