Honestly, I'm not feeling the hype. Mass Effect 1 had me so excited that I went out and spontaneously bought an xbox 360 in preparation for it. Maybe it's because I played through the game so many times, both on 360 and Steam...but I'm just not that excited about Mass Effect 2. I don't even plan on buying it on launch day. I guess I burned myself out on Mass Effect. For all I care, I could wait until Mass Effect 3 is released before I buy the 2nd one. Hmm...maybe that's what I'll do. That way I can play through all three games one after the other.

I have to agree. I had no huge expectations when I received this game from Microsoft, but once I started playing I was hooked. An amazing universe filled with tons of quests, an intense storyline and plenty of customizable options.

Oh, and did I mention it has one of the most evil antagonists ever?

I've even started replaying the game to freshen up the storyline of the first one so that I'm prepared when EA sends me Mass Effect 2 in a few weeks.
ME too, and you know what I noticed?

In his own way, Saren genuinely thought he was doing the council races a favour, I think he was less evil than we originally thought, and
became corrupted by Sovereign's influence
to the point where all he could see was to surrender and give up hope.
Exactly. What I mostly love, is that you get immersed in the storyline and the characters. I remember the part in the beginning where
you confront Saren and the council and tell him he's a traitor. It always pisses me off that he is hiding behind his status as a Spectre and regards all humans as a waste of space. And at the meantime, it gives the player such motivation to pursue him and bring him to justice.

I love it when a game can drag you in its world so deeply.

I don't know. I was exited about the game, but after I watched all the character profile video's, every character just seems like a meathead without any real depth (Except Tali). Sure, ME1's characters weren't that great, but at least they had thoughts other than "kill kill kill"

Plus, the combat seems like its taking a step back. Going from health bars and unlimited ammo weapons to regenerating health and guns with clips... Its becoming more "Call of Duty-y". And that makes me sad.

I'll still get it though, I just hope that the characters have some depth.

Can't say since it hasn't been released and so we can't tell for certain, but god I would hope it is. I've been waiting so long for it.

I liked Mass Effect alot but it had few problems; Too simple combat, lack lustering character development and the male/female players voice acting

I hope they atleast fix the combat :p

Garrus is back as a full squadmate again, that any good? ;P
He is?! YAH! I heard he was making an appearance, but I didn't hear as a squadmate... But before I go into any major nerdgasms, can you give me proof? I don't want to get my spaz-tastic hopes up...
Sure, but it's only a link from the ME wiki, but there was some youtube videos floating around I think got pulled down, it's also on the achievement list released. (Get Archangel, which is Garrus merc codename.) Though I have noticed the ME wiki wiped a lot of info of it being confirmed to get rid of spoilers me thinks.

Hang on, let me pull up the link, I was also really excited myself. (Tali and Garrus was my first team in ME.)

Why do people keep pointing out the darker & edgier thing like its a bad point its a bloody stlye did no one play Baldurs Gate 2 and pay attention? That was most definently a darker, edgier narrative and style. Or how about Planescape the whole game was dark from start to finish albeit with comedic undertones.

Take off the nostalgia goggles and stop using hackneyed memories as a standard the games not even bloody out yet and we have seen what? 30 minutes of combined gameplay footage/trailers.

Guilty as charged, I'm super hyped about this game.

Our opinions differ on Bioware, I absolutely love the first Mass Effect and Dragon Age is pretty great too, if a tad on the ugly side.

What, prey tell, do you consider a good RPG since KOTOR?
There's nothing wrong with looking forward to a gme but saying that a game will be standout classic of a whole generation before it's even released seems to me to be a bit, well stupid to be honest.

As for good RPGs since KOTOR, VtM:B possibly I'm not sure really, this hasn't been a good decade for RPGs.
Read it properly. I didn't say it would be the standout game, I said I hoped it would be.

What's VtMB?

Vampire: The Masquerade ? Bloodlines

And you said in the OP that you were confident ME 2 would be the defining game of our generation.

Yeah, I am, and I hope it will be. Because we need an amazing RPG to come along.

I thought ME1 was alright, not nearly as good as loads of other RPGs/Action RPGs that I've played (Dragon Age: Origins, Neverwinter Nights 2, hell Mount and Blade is better imho).

I can't wait. I just realized that it comes out in a few weeks, and I am insanely psyched for it. I seriously think it will be so much better than ACII or DA:O or any other game of the holiday season.

And let's not forget how bad-ass the Blood Dragon armor looks in ME2.

If they can fix that blandness of the side-quests and side-planets, I will love it. If they don't, I will love it for a play through, and then be done with it.

I'm looking forward to it, the first one was fun even with it's annoying flaws. However the game of this generation... I don't know that's a bold statement.
