"Wow, you guys have on hell of a track record. But do you have any reason to think that's going to happen this time? It's just a meeting, isn't it?" She swallowed the last of the juice and set the empty glass down on the counter.

"You did fuck up Aria's bar, what where you expecting? A slap on the wrist?"

The last piece of his meal had been eaten and Ocara pushed the empty plate forwards toward Dray, turning back to the others when he was done.

"Well we are due for some good luck but as you say, judging from our track record something is going to go wrong. There's always something"

Ocara leant back and began to count off their 'incidents' on his talons.

"Thieves breaking into the warehouse, A psychotic Quarian, Basara's aforementioned bar rampage or my personal favorite, being set up and ambushed by the Bloodpack"

"Watch your tongue, Santius." Meer said, pointing at him accusingly. "Keep talking like that and you'll bring Shepard and who the hell knows what else down on our heads." He took his third and final shot of ryncol. "Personally, I'm hoping it's the Blood Pack again. It'd be nice to be in a fight against the Pack instead of with them for once."

"That would be bad, we just got done having the blood pack on our tail. So if anything I'm hoping it'll just go down how we expect it to for a change." Sal said with a little sigh.

Meer waved a hand, dismissing the claims of Santius and Sal. "I love a good fight, but not unless it's on my terms. I'm not looking forward to this, but I've got a gut feeling. One way or another, this is going to lead to a shootout."

"Well sure, something lie this always turns to shootout, but it's nice dream isn't it?" Sal said with a shrug.

Basara grinned. "A slap would have been nice. Hell, a punch I would definitely prefer. At least that the armor could soak up. Biotics... well, not much you can do against those- or being thrown against a wall- except put on a lot of weight real quick." He then looked at Thayna with an eyebrow raised. "With us, it's never just a meeting. It's like there's a certain person who's in charge of bad luck, and every single person in this room has pissed him off in one way or another, to the point where I'm wondering how some of our members are still alive."

Verahl:

Verahl walked up from the armoury and into the common room. He looked around, and saw that most people were already up and fed.

"Once you're all done, grab your gear and get ready. Shower, arm, practice, do whatever you need to do now. I want the Gauntlet to be taking off in no more then 45 minutes," he continued up to his office, while Esten walked into the kitchen for some food.

"I got that 'knack' too, see?"

Ocara said as he tapped his cybernetic left eye and smiled at Santius. While Ocara could tell that Santius was a survivor, he wasn't sure if he could take a knife to the eye like he had, it wasn't something most people could walk away from.

He nodded at to Verhal's instructions as he disappeared out of the common room as quickly as he had come.

"Shower sounds good, I smell like those damn cigarette things" he said to no-body in-particular before leaving the room to get prepared from the mission ahead.

Basara grinned as he raised his black metal arm. "Don't. Even. Try." He tapped Thayna and Meer on the shoulders before leaving. "Alright mates, time for the first mission. Let's see if you've already caught the black luck, eh?" When he got to his room, he donned the armor. He had gotten stick of the damn thing getting stuck on the gauntlet, so at one point recently, he somehow managed to rip off part of the left arm in a fit of rage. He actually quite liked it now.

Basara made his way down to the practice room. He set up the program then walked to the middle of the room. The first enemy was unfortunate enough to pop up right behind him. Basara spun around, his hand held together in the basic karate chop, with slightly more... lethal effects. The next one appeared about 10 feet downrange. Without pausing to think, Basara whipped out his pistol and shot five times. It was the classic big predator takedown; two in the head, two in the heart, one in the neck. Basara continued like this, his every movement fluid and planned, taking the most efficient route. This was what he did best. And he loved it.

Thayna nodded at Verahl's comments and returned to her room. She fitted a small belt around her waisst, which she attached her wepons to. M-3 on her left hip, M-9 on her right. On the back she fitted a double-edged combat knife, an old weapon she had picked up during her time as a huntress. She used it as a surprise weapon, as kinetic barriers were only designed to stop high velocity projectiles, not melee weapons. In an age of mass accelerator driven combat, no one was ever prepared for such a simple weapon. She slid it into its sheath and smiled. She was looking forward to the day's events.

Sal nodded to Verahl and headed to her room and graved her gear. She headed down to the Shooting range, she saw Basara practicing in the sparring area. She smiled as he shot a target down range. Sal walked towards the shoot range with her rifle slung over her shoulder. She had the program set up targets along the range, each further from the last.

She looked down the scope. The first, roughly 15 feet away, vanished as the bullet pierced it's head. Easy shot. Sal thought. The next this time a 90 feet also fell. Some training required.. The next popped up at 130. it too fell. Difficult. The last at 200, after a few seconds fell. Expert shot She thought with a faint smile. "Alright looks like my ability to fight with my Rifle hasn't diminished."

Basara swept another dummy, speared it with his arm, and threw it at the last target. He walked up and doled out one last shot between the eyes, as one would to make sure of death. The program cut out with Basara barely breathing heavily. He then heard Sal's words. "Maybe, but you have a way to go if you want to match my species' Simo Hayha. He could take that last shot with only iron sights, and this was 1939. That man was an absolute monster." Basara thought for a moment. "What kind of stories do your people have?"

"Not many that we can remember, most of our history was destroyed when the geth revolted." Sal said shouldering her rifle. "At least you have stories. The tales of our people that nobody thought to copy are gone forever, the memories of those who came before us gone. For us that was one of the biggest travesties we suffered, right after us no longer having a home world.

Basara furrowed his eyebrows. "But...don't you still have, I don't know, stories passed down by word of mouth? Mankind passed stories along like that for more than 50,000 years." Basara shut his mouth immediately, realizing the implications. "Most of the elders who knew the stories probably died in the revolution" He thought. "I'm sorry, ignore that last question. That was... rather stupid of me." He then grinned, trying to lighten the situation. "Yes, I realize there are probably a few jokes you could make about my stupidity."

"It's no problem, we do sure but some of the older tales were destroyed before we could save them." Sal said with a shrug "if your done training we should probably head back up now. It's probably about time." She said walking up the stairs.

Basara nodded. "I'm sorry." He said simply as he followed her up to the main lounge. He headed for the kitchen and managed to find a bowl of strawberries in there. "Nice." He grinned. He took some of them, flung himself down on the couch, and began to pop them into his mouth, waiting for the others.
