That's a pretty high ceiling.
Yeah, I know.

I mean, Arceus is the motherfucking god of Pokemon:

Diamond Pokedex:
It is described in mythology as the Pokemon that shaped the universe with its 1,000 arms.

Pearl Pokedex:
It is told in mythology that this Pokemon was born before the universe even existed.

So, um, yeah.

Where the fuck do you go from that when you know that there's a god Pokemon?

haha, when I saw this I couldn't help but think of this clip
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_zCAsSc5l0
But seriously, how do they think of all these new pokemon? Back when I was a kid I thought 150 was a big number.

Note: Just a warning to those who have "sensitive ears", there is an F-bomb in this clip.

It's Pokemon, not Mass Effect 2. People play it for the gameplay; they collect creatures, go through challenges, and generally feel like they've achieved something. It's a kids game and the atmosphere is based around a moderate paradise where the problems of reality, such as physics or basic social structure doesn't exist in favor of a more laid back version with an obvious enemy. Storyline I felt that Platinum was better than Emerald, although that's not saying much. Besides, kids wouldn't get most of those themes if they did that.
In my opinion, we don't need another atmosphere based around war and complex, depressing social problems.
Hm, perhaps my idea was a bit dark, but it was formed right on the spot, after all. It is true, of course, that gameplay is paramount when it comes to making a game and I said that in the case of Pokemon it should mostly be left alone, but a good story to back it up makes it all the better. Would Mass Effect be half as successful if it had a weak, run of the mill story to the tune of "humans good, aliens bad, kill the aliens?" I certainly hope not. I'll grant you that my idea may be innapropriate, but that is not to say that the Pokemon games can't have more serious themes. Inspiration may be found in the Pokemon movies, "inspiration" being the key word. I went a long time without watching the movies, and either by my own maturing discrimination, a steady decline in quality or a uniform lack thereof, but the basic plots that I recall are "some legendary get pissed off because of something terrible some human did and decides to kill us all in revenge before Ash and crew step in to calm them down with the power of love and friendship and crap." I understand that, but recall the first (or was it the second?) Pokemon movie, the one (ones?) dealing with MewTwo. That was many years ago, but from my recollection there is some pondering of the rights and destiny of an intelligent artificial life form, an issue which may well be a serious problem in the forseeable future. Oh, there's probably a least a couple more worthy of "inspiration," but like I said, I haven't been very faithful to the movies. Of course, such themes would go right over the heads of children, but it's easy to assume that there are plenty of Pokemon fans well into their teens and twenties, even. I know I'm not the only one. The kids will come for the appealing visuals and gameplay, and us older guys will come for the deep, meaningful stories in addition to the appealing visuals and gameplay.

But that's just my opinion, after all. I certainly wouldn't want to offend anyone.

Ya, they could have a better, deeper story, but overall I feel the atmosphere shouldn't change much.
However, in retrospect Emerald had a symbolic storyline. It was basically that 2 groups were trying to exploit legendary pokemon to make the world better, but end up almost causing an apocalypse. The entire thing was a metaphor that man should leave nature alone.

They have yet to make it catchable without glitches or events. They could have it as a main pokemon in a different game. Just because they made it in a past generation doesn't mean it's restrained to that generation. And just because it created the pokemon universe doesn't mean it's the strongest pokemon.

Ya, I don't count the events. If it is in a previous generation then it will be catchable there, but it won't be a big part of the storyline. And I was referencing the Azure Flute and how the only legitimate way to get Arceus may not be released in Japan before Generation 5 is.

Why are they doing this? I watched an episode of the new D&P series today on CN. After the bleeding in my eeyes and ears stopped, I went on Youtube, wonderign why I ever liked the series.

I went on a search for the first episode ever, thinking maybe nostalgia was just being it's usual, bitchy self. But, you know what. It was actually GOOD. Watchable.

I was a diehard fan of Pokemon when I turned 5.

I am now 17.

What went wrong...?

Pokemon USA. That's what... <<

Did someone ask for alt art? ... No? Who cares!

Here's some of everyone's favourite first-generation Pokemen, proving once and for all just how ultimately bad-ass they are in comparison to later generations!

You forget, sir, the most important part of our generation: the ultimate wisdom that shorts are comfy and easy to wear.
That may be so, but bare legs entice lust!

Yeah and everything was original back then too
Remember that first gym?

Mighty fine mighty fine
Then Gold and Silver came out and improved everything (Granted back then the original art ream was still drawing the Pokemon now they all look alien exept the first two generations) and they hugley improved the idea of the first two games exept adding more stuff but still being able to go to the original region Kanto. That is why Gold is my fave game EVAR. (Also Crimson Skies)
I wanted to get Gold/Silver, but the latest Pokemon game I have is Yellow.

Oh well, it's still fun.

Oh yes, just loved when you hiked through that long-ass jungle full of limp-wristed net-chucking weirdos ("Harden! Ohhh yeahhhhh...") and come out the other end only to find a slightly bigger town and a gym with a "BRB AFK" sign pinned to the door. My reaction upon noticing this was something along the lines of:

150. Mew wasn't catchable.
/otheroldfogie

Meh. Its a Pokemon game. I'll buy it. Will I enjoy the new Pokemon? Will they replace my Scizor and MewTwo. Something tells me no...
missingno
well i guess he counted...
but yeah, the original 150 were great and i can still name each and everyone of them and their type.
my 2 biggest gripes are:
1. theyve changed the numbers on some pokemon.
2. the types dont make sense. (sudowoodo: looks like a fucking tree, but is rock type, thus fire dont do shit)
Nope, I meant 151, including Mew, as it is the progenitor of Mewtwo. Because of this, whether it was catchable or not is irrelevant. Whether it was catchable in Red and Blue is irrelevant. As the progenitor of Mewtwo, the 150st Pokemon, it is automatically considered part of the First Generation in my eyes.

Actually, Mew was programmed into red and blue. You just had to mess with the game in order to get him to appear. so, 151.
Yup. The first 151 Pokemon, including Mew. Missingno doesn't count, as it is only a glitch and is therefore not canonical.

Yup. Throw up a whole bunch of random geometric shapes, polish them so they shine real good and chuck 'em together and you got yourself a whole new Pokeman. Also, don't forget to draw on a pair (or three) of eyes.

I miss Kabutops, rock/water type and he is a fossil. Was always my fave.
I always thought Kabutops was Scyther's grandaddy. It was pretty neat so they were both my favs.

I knew it! Pokemon was in fact a clever vessel for the subtle indoctrination of kids everywhere in favour of evolution!

You forgot uphill both ways in the snow.
Also I agree completely. I don't mind adding some pokemon to each game but did they have to add so many each time? It's not like every game had to have another 151++++ to catch. What is the tally going to at now? 1,000 Pokemon in the known Pokeverse?
I was trying to be original, but whatever.

Also, if we haven't gotten to the 1000 mark yet, give it another ten years.

On a side-note, I feel a similar way about Digimon - I will only ever acknowledge the first group of Digi-Destined. Season 1 (and to a certain extent, Season 2) of Digimon kicked ass.
