I am a man.

I own a very fluffy tiny white cat that barely weighs 3 pounds.

btw, her name is "white one" and she has one blue eye and one brown.

Men who own cats are gay? I think I can disprove this theory with two pictures:

Tony Montana was most certainly not gay, yet he owned a cat (or two).
Whereas:

This man is gay and he owns a dog.

The defence rest.

Question because I am a nosey soul who loves cats. Is the White One deaf on the blue-eyed side or is she OK?

Also (and unrelated) I don't think a guy owning a cat means anything other than a guy...likes cats. Or at least likes to have a pet but perhaps does not have the life style for dog ownership.

That certain people need to label each other "******" is just a strong reminder, if it was needed, that the world has too large a population of fucking fuckwits who need a slap.

No, it certainly isn't weird for a bloke to own a cat; as I have one of my own, I'd prefer it if he could at least tolerate them.

Cats are manly. My neighbours cat fought foxes on a regular basis. That's pretty badass if you ask me.

@OP: No. It's an animal. Call them out as the retards they are and move on.

Male. No it isn't weird. Some people just prefer a lower maintenance pet. Some of those people are guys. That being said I wouldn't date a guy who owned a cat.
Hypocrisy much? Or is there a hidden context I'm missing (e.g.: "I'm severely alergic to cats").

Okay, so a few weeks ago I was chatting with some friends at work and the topic of pets came up. Everyone talked about their dogs or lack of pets, and then my turn came up - I told them I had a cat, and the mocking commenced.

A few days later, I heard some girls at the pub talking about these guys they dated, and they laughed over one example of a guy with a cat, both agreeing that it was weird for a guy to have one. "He's ******," I believe they said specifically.

Later again, I was talking to this girl at another pub, and told her I had a cat - she also told me that it was kinda weird for a dude to own a cat, but "at least it's not, like, a ferret or rat or something like that."

So here's my question to you, Escapees - is it really that weird for a guy to own a cat? Tell me your gender and whether you think it's weird or not. If you think it is, why?
These people sound rather.... well, like tossers :p
no offence.

I'd say it was unusual, but not odd, or strange or anything insulting.

I have both a cat and dog, so I can see the benefits of both types.

Ain't nothing wrong about a guy having a pet cat. I prefer cats to dogs... they're cuter.

Really? You thought it was worthy to take my post upon yourself and take it seriously?

That's a poor showing.

Personally, I'm surprised this thread got to 10 pages. For all those people who like to be offended though, I thought the best ever combo of characters in an Escapist series was in Apocolypse Lane - Steve and Cuddles. How more awesome can a single man and cat combination be?

These people you talk about are quick to judge on what people have (and what it seems to represent) instead of who they are. Plus, those girls sound like fourteen year old valley girls (or "whatever" girls), and you shouldn't let what they say go to your head.
So no, it's not weird.

I ****ING LOVE CATS! WTF WHO WOULD SEE THEM AS GAY /rage

No srsly how are cats not manly. They spend their days sleeping, killing, cuddling, mutilating and staring condescendingly at things.

Here's my impression of a dog "omg where is my master!? AROOOOOOOOOOOOOO" the whiny little basterds can't live without receiving periodic buttlove from whoever they perceive as their "alpha." Whereas cats could care less if you died, they'll just eat you and move on.

It is supposed to be a joke. I wouldn't date a guy with a cat because I wouldn't date a guy. I'm not gay.

I don't think its weird for a guy to own a cat, its pretty much the same as any pet. Actually I'd prefer he had a cat because I'm sorta scared of dogs.

Also, I want a cat like this:

I'd call him...Totoro!

HMM, I don't rightly know, but I doubt it because it is IMPOSSIBLE to sneak up on her from any angle, even while asleep.

LIES!

OT: I'm a guy and I used to have a cat, (Until it died) and I've never heard anyone say it's weird for a man to have a pet cat, but maybe you just have odd friends.
As it seems, people don't really care all that much, I mean yes, I suppose you could say cats aren't the most masculine of pets, but should that really have any bearing on anything else?

I like cats much more. They're more intelligent, require less work, and are a lot more enjoyable to cuddle with. Dogs are stupid, loud, messy, and just overall a worse pet. Cats are just fucking awesome, okay?

male. im gonna get a cat soon, the reasons: im not that fond of dogs. im not scared of them i just think they are a little... Stupid, and they shit everywhere. i am scared of spiders (pathetic isn't it?) so i like cats because they take care of all the bugs. and cats have more personality than dogs. those are the reasons i like cats. and if people are gonna mock me for that, then i got another reason to generaly loathe people. ^^
