This is a touch one. I'm gonna have to say Stoner Metal just because its always the most fun to listen to, especially while driving.

I'm gonna say Fu Manchu's "Evil Eye" is my favorite.

Awesome! Twilight of The Thunder God is rife with Win.

I'm totally a huge, albeit new, fan of Amon. Lately I'm listening to alot of Children Of Bodom, Dimmu Borgir, Ulver, and Gorgoroth, but I really like Viking Metal alot. There's something dark but adventurous about it all, and also vikings should growl and roar anyways- why not backed by heavy- metal?

Trance Metal (new style that's building in popularity), style is pretty much owned by these guys:
That just sounded like such a bastardisation, but damn I think this might just grow on me.

OT: My all time favourite metal band has to be Iron Maiden. Favourite song is a bit more difficult given their huge discography, but if I had to choose one I'd go with either The Number of the Beast, 2 Minutes to Midnight, or Fear of the Dark.

I can find something I like in every kind of metal, including "core metal" or "screamo metal". Personal favorites are:
Amon Amarth (Viking Metal)
Whitechapel (Deathcore)
Slayer (Thrash)
All That Remains (Metalcore)
Killswitch Engage (Metalcore)
Lamb of God (Groove Metal)
Fear Factory (Industrial Metal)

Prog metal mainly, especially the stuff that leans more toward prog death. Although I like thrash metal a lot too, as well as general heavy metal.

The one thing I will NOT stand for in metal is the drummer going insane for 4 minutes (especially when it's constant double bass) and the singer growling and basically utter chaos. I'm sorry, it just doesn't sound good.

Awh... to chose from so many. I actually like most kinds of metal. If they have a decent melody to them I love them.

Of course there are favourites and I might have an preference to progressive metal.
But I enjoy all kinds, things like: Ayreon, Skyclad, Immortal, Manowar, Ensiferum, Samael, Symphony X, Stolen Babies, Diablo Swing Orchestra... and so on and so on.

I also give great deal of emphases to the lyrics, that's manly the reason why I love Skyclad almost more than life.

I can't just narrow it down to one genre.I love metal too much for that. And I love all variations of it.I don't class genres too much.

I have a theory that the less variety there is in a given genre*, the more names for subgenres there are. I swear a new genre of metal is created whenever someone decides to sing about something different, eg. when I see people talking about dragon metal, pirate metal, zombie metal or whatever. Is there really a need to distinguish brutal death metal from standard death metal?

I like metal, but I'm not too fond of metalheads. I just think that if you listen mainly (or exclusively) to any one genre of music, you miss out on so much. Especially if your preferred genre is something like "norweigan symphonic black metal". I just can't imagine that being anything but extremely limiting.

*before you tell me anything, I realise that metal does go all the way from people like Dream Theatre to SunnO)))

Right now I'm heavy into Death Metal. I guess my favorite bands would be Between the Buried and Me and Opeth, since they're both such fucking great bands.

I like a lot of Metal. From Rammstein to Disturbed, Ministry to System of a Down. I like some nu-metal, and Melodic Death Metal. Here's a kick ass song from Ministry.

I'm not sure what kind of metal this would fall under but...

I LOVE Demon Hunter's music.

But basically, I like any kind of metal as long as you can hear at least a portion of the lyrics. So basically, nothing where the artists screaming their throats raw counts as "singing".

My favorite genres are symphonic metal and folk metal, but I also like some power metal and speed metal. My favorite metal bands are Nightwish, Apocalyptica, and Ensiferum.

Metal...Core? I believe it's called. Yeah, MetalCore.
[sub] I'm actually not even sure if that's the category I'm into, but I saw it a lot on my Itunes list :s[/sub]

Sorry, I'm not big into sub-genres. Actually I'm completely oblivious to what is what, but I know what bands I like, so I'm good.

I like stuff like, Bullet for my valentine, Trivium, Disturbed, Fall Out Boy, Breaking Benjamin, Paramore, Linkin Park, Papa Roach, Black Sabbath, My Chemical Romance, Nirvana, Green Day, Guns n Roses, Mettalica and so on and so forth.
I know it's not all Metal, but it gives an image of what kinda music I like.

I like proper vocals, from someone who can actually sing, but I also enjoy screaming/growling/whatever. I think BFMV and Trivium have got a nice mix.

Seriously though, I am a big fan of heavy metal. Bands like Blind Guardian and Iron Maiden are the ones I listen to most.
