I have four favourites

1 - Ayreon (lots of diversity musically and vocally)
2 - Skyclad (Love the folky music and the lyrics are witty and hilarious)
3 - Nevermore (its love or hate)
4 - Blind Guardian (good music, awesome vocalist and a lot nerdy all around)

Then there are others: Symphony X, Pantera, Stolen babies, ensiferum... and we could go on forever

Oh, real quick, Stigmata is from Nebraska, or Iowa, reports conflict.
And the link is here
http://www.myspace.com/omahastigmata
I find that I cannot identify their style, but THEY are exactly what I like, if you know something that is like it, please hook a dude up.
thanks
Okay, I see. Try Meshuggah.

The old vocalist may have been rubbish, but the guitars were a lot better. Listen to some stuff of Stigmata, the music is loads better than their newer stuff.

Stolen babies kick so much but it hurts saw them open for lacuna coil and in my opinion they out did coil by a long shot. Admittedly coils bassist spent the entire concert at the bar and went on completely wasted but oh well.

I hate bands going on drunk. This is essentially their job, why is it ok for them to go to work drunk? If they can't perform to their full potential, they shouldn't even bother.

Damn! every one that saw them with coil says the same thing: they were awesome. Makes me really sad not being able to see them. Of course if they did a European tour my money would be on they not coming to Portugal... but oh well.

About the bassist, that isn't something new, don't know why they do it, but I can't see a reason. I don't like coil, personally, so I'm not surprised that stolen babies kicked their ass, but still... the gig should be like a work place for the musicians so that's being drunk on the job.

I actually liked the old singer a bit better (Angela is good, but not great.)
And ofcourse, the rest was lot better on their older albums (compare Burning Bridges to Rise of the Tyrant for example...)

I agree 100% on the vocals, i hate the old ones, i think they sound forced and far too unrefined.

I mostly enjoy scandinavian death metal. It just tends to be kinda different than anything else.

For bands I'd mention:
In Flames (mostly older stuff)
Dark Tranquillity
and one I didn't see anyone mention yet: Insomnium

Insomnium isn't generally very well known, but they deserve more fame imo, they just happen to be one of the best in the genre at the moment. They are from Finland and it kinda shows, they tend to have old Finnish poetry and some folk elements in their songs. It's beautifully melodic and yet so very brutal.

Also, their lyrics are the best and deepest I have ever seen in any music, metal or not.
Here's one of their songs with the lyrics in the description

Yeah and hi everyone, my first post. Been reading the forums for a while already tho.

I'm seeing AILD on the 22nd. I've seen them once before, and they were just alright, but that was back before Frail Words Collapse was released, so perhaps I'll be surprised. I'm seeing them with Protest the Hero, which is going to be AMAZING. I was really disappointed by All That Remains when I saw them with Dragonforce and HORSE the Band - they're guitarist was a real disappointment. Their new record is KILLER though.

My contribution:

I have too many to make a top ten, but a few of my obsessions lately -

Powerglove - I saw these guys with Dragonforce, and they put on an AMAZING show. Really nice guys, too. They place video game-inspired, all-instrumental power metal. Very talented musicians.

Turisas - From Finland, they do what they dub "Battle Metal" and metal remakes of traditional Finnish music. Amazing live show (their accordion player is damn gorgeous. You read that right.) and great fist-pumping music.

As Blood Runs Black - Borrows heavily from death metal, hardcore, and two-step. Very hard, very fast, very cliche at times, but it's good music to get pumped to.

At the Gates - Older death metal. Really one of the best death metal bands around. Slaughter of the Soul is one of my favorite records ever.

Symphony X - Paradise Lost is so good. SO GOOD.

Seventh Wonder - a little-known progressive rock band from Sweden. Such talented songwriters with an amazing singer, a brilliant guitarist, and probably the best bassist I've ever heard in a band. Pick up Waiting in the Wings - if you like progressive rock or melodic metal I promise you'll like it.

He Is Legend - Southern Rock meets hardcore.

Firewind - One of the best power metal bands ever.

Kiuas - Go get Reformation if you like power metal. It's perfect.

Love Dark Tranquillity. I only really like Clayman and Jester Race by In Flames, their newer stuff jut went down hill.

Never really like Imsomnium, they've got a bit too much doom influence for my liking.

Also, welcome to the forums. Nice to see your first post was in my beautiful thread.

Most of the time I listen to Metallica, Megadeth, Rob Zombie, John 5, Rammstein and Children of Bodom. There are more but I wont bother to list them here.
